Except the ref obviously thought it wasn't quite in the spirit of the WC to send the host nation's star player off in the first 27mins.

i wouldn't have liked to see him off for that. would have killed the game. he looked at him but the elbow kinda ricocheted off the shoulder into his face. i don't think he aimed for the face directly.

 

How's about two yellows, Poll-style...?

On those weaknesses of the various favorites, for Brazil, lots of raves about their back 4, but 3 of 4 are spotty defenders known for their skills going forward and it showed on the goal. Gistavo and Paulinho are a good holding mf pairing, but nothing spectacular. Hulk, Fred and Oscar will hardly go down as the greatest attacking players in Brazil's history. And lastly, I'll never be sd on Neymar.

i'd play Willian over Hulk. i would have definitely taken Lucas to the WC over Hulk too.

Croatia unlucky with referee decisions so far

either way i would say he has been both ****e and ****ing poor.

 

Nishimura MotM for Brazil.

Although it has to be said with a better goal keeper Croatia would have still been 1-0 up, both goals were stoppable.

 

Same thing every 4 years, refs from the boonies in over their heads.

Btw, I had Neymar as my captain until an hour or two before kick-off, ended up selling him in favor of Messi.

Croatia also not helped by their keeper, first and third goals not unstoppable.

Brazil didn't seem all that good, a better team than Croatia could cause them a lot of trouble.
Croatia seem good enough though to get out of the group, well organised but let down by the referee & their goalkeeper

 

Urs Meier on German TV absolutely slamming the ref for the penalty, said it should even have been yellow for diving on Fred. Also made a point of ref's experience with matches at this level.

Also Croatia could have used Mandzukic up front.

I really think the penalty should not been given.
