My room is a rickety addition on the 3rd floor of a 100 year old house. Scared the hell out of me.

 

Earthquakes, volcanos and hurricanes, oh my!

 

There are reports of extensive damage in the North Bay and 'numerous' injuries.

 

FOX is reporting that HW 29 is shut down.

So, um, this is embarrassing.

Despite the late, late hour at which this quake occurred, I was still wide awake, lying in bed. My dog started barking for god-knows-what reason, but I didn't even feel it. And my brother in the room next to me said it woke him up.

wtf?

 

You shouldn't be getting high before bed.

 

We did not felt the quake. But we are 4 hours from San Francisco.
Weird I was awake after the quake.
I checked the quake website to see if Chile still okay. Then I found Napa.

 

ive evidently missed several earthquakes in my day (tho never as bad as a 6.0) but yeah esp when i was living in oregon people would be like "did you feel that earthquake 10 minutes ago or whatever" and id be like "lol no"

i lack earthquake sensitivity. you are not alone, coruscant

 

Roomie's mom in Spain called to ask if we were okay. She evidently does t realize how far away LA and SF are Looks like a fair bit of damage in Napa but could have been a lot worse. I don't envy you NorCal folks knowing there will almost certainly be aftershocks coming in the next few days. Sounds like the intensity of this one was pretty frightening. I haven't really experienced over a 5.0.

 

Given that I was the only member of my immediate family to have slept through the '94 Northridge quake (a 6.7), I'm fairly certain I haven't felt anything stronger than a quake in the high 5-to-low-6 range. I do envy the aftershocks that are on-the-way, given that I'm not bothered -and enjoy to some degree- by the shaking. I know that's an extremely odd & weird quality to have (my maternal grandfather was the same way), but it's true.

Well, that was a fun way to wake up at 3:20 in the morning.

I live about half an hour away from Napa, so we felt it pretty good here. Things shook and rattled around for a few seconds, and a book fell off a shelf, but that was pretty much it. Checked with both my parents and my brother to see if they felt it, then went back to bed within five minutes of the whole thing.

I believe the latest injury count was at around 120, with three critical, but no fatalities. I've also been hearing that Vallejo (which is closer to Napa than I am) has also been reporting damage there, too. It's a little hard to say how bad, since most of the coverage seems to be focused on Napa.

 

TIL that Spaniards don't understand weather or geography.
