??And Houston, we have splashdown! Music Quiz 1 is home, repeat, the Quiz has landed!?
Mission accomplished, gents- now, it?s time for the traditional ticker-tape parade for the winners of Round 37: Requiem For A Rocket.

    1. The beautiful strains of the excellent Tom Hanks miniseries From The Earth To The Moon, by Michael Kamen. A must-see series for anyone even peripherally interested in the space program.
    2. The slightly dated but heroic-sounding warbles of The Right Stuff, by Bill Conti- one of the forerunners of modern greats like Apollo 13 and From The Earth To The Moon.
    3. Based on the Supermarionation series of the same name, the score to Jonathan Frakes? rather disappointing Thunderbirds, by Hans Zimmer. To put it in the words of __Vader__, ?Unmissable music, missable movie.?

Now then, let?s be honest. Not the most recognizable clips in the world. Nonetheless, the task of finding movies all with the theme of rockets, and then narrowing it down by each specific year, made this task hardly insurmountable. At least one member here did some research and got all of the answers- and those that didn?t are going to be hurting from his 9-point jump now, methinks. The winners this time are:
    Scoot ? 9 points
    __Vader__ ? 3 points

This puts the current totals at:
    Scoot ? 25 points
    Darth_Vader-Anakin ? 15 points
    Well_Of_Souls ? 14 points
    Outrider462004 ? 12 points
    TheBoogieMan ? 10 points
    __Vader__ - 8 points
    HookLineAndSinker ? 5 points
    MrUnderhiII ? 5 points
    Miana Kenobi - 1 point

Okay, now things get tough. Same rules as last round- name, composer, 2 points, maybe 3 if it turns out to be tough (which I strongly suspect). The only difference? The category is broadening out a little- last time it was Rockets, this time it?s Loners. One against the world. Good luck- you?re gonna need it!

That third one is bugging me. A lot. I'm sure i've heard it, but the place i'm thinking of has nothing to do with loners, I think...

So, for the second week in a row, a ?deceptively easy? theme turns into a monster! Just keep in mind, as we head into the answers for Round 38: One Lone Note, that there are different reasons than just antisocial tendencies for which someone could be considered a loner. A few very good reasons include:

    1. One could be stuck on a desert island, alone- like Chuck Noland in Castaway, by Alan Silvestri
    2. One could be Batman, like Batman from Batman Begins by Hans Zimmer
    3. One could be on the run from the police after being falsely accused of the murder of his wife which was really committed by a one-armed man, like Doctor Richard Kimbal from The Fugitive, by James Newton Howard

And, in keeping with the theme, we didn?t exactly have a huge crowd of contributors this time? a total of two, both identifying the Batman clip:
    MrUnderhiII ? 3 points
    Scoot ? 3 points

With 2 rounds left to go this quiz, our totals are currently at:
    Scoot ? 28 points
    Darth_Vader-Anakin ? 15 points
    Well_Of_Souls ? 14 points
    Outrider462004 ? 12 points
    TheBoogieMan ? 10 points
    __Vader__ - 8 points
    MrUnderhiII ? 8 points
    HookLineAndSinker ? 5 points
    Miana Kenobi - 1 point

So, for the second-to-last round, we move from the oppressed and the lonely to something a little lighter. They say that every little girl wants to be one of two things. That?s your theme. I?d spell them out? but that would practically be one of the titles! I?m sure you can figure out- some are simple, some obscure- so, based on an averaging system, I?m going to award three points each once again for film title and composer.

Okay, and here we are at? is this the last round? Really? Where does the time go? All right, well, as I stated last week, they say (whoever ?they? may be) that every little girl wants to be one of two things: A princess or a bride. So, with that in mind, we?ll get the answers to Round 39: What A Girl Wants:
    1. The Princess Bride, by Mark Knopfler.
    2. Father of the Bride, by Alan Silvestri
    3. The Swan Princess, by Lex De Azevedo
(which in restrospect is sufficiently obscure to merit an extra point.)

We only had three guessers this round (Come on, guys! Get on the ball!) and they were:
    Miana Kenobi ? 7 points
    Well_Of_Souls ? 6 points
    Scoot ? 3 points

This puts our totals, heading into the final round, at:
    Scoot ? 31 points
    Well_Of_Souls ? 20 points
    Darth_Vader-Anakin ? 15 points
    Outrider462004 ? 12 points
    TheBoogieMan ? 10 points
    __Vader__ - 8 points
    MrUnderhiII ? 8 points
    Miana Kenobi - 8 points
    HookLineAndSinker ? 5 points

Now, don?t despair, those of you who aren?t Scoot- there is still the cumulative total to think of, after all! And you can add to that with this final round, in which we return to the beginning? sort of.

When looking for nearly identical pieces of music, as we did for the first round of the first quiz under my benevolent dictatorshipness, it will never, ever be as easy as it is when your target composer is the excellent but self-plagaristic James Horner. Still, at least two of these three pieces employ a similar ?soaring strings? motif, and all three remind me, at least, of each other. And after all, that?s hardly the least tenuous theme we?ve had a round based on lately, right?

So, for this round, to be counted I will need Film name, Composer name, and Track name from the soundtrack. Clips are worth two points each, though really only because it?s the last round- they aren?t exceedingly obscure!

Then, meet back here next week for another exciting Quiz Conclusion!

    ...Aaaaaaand... it's been a while since we've had a good old-fashioned cop-out, hasn't it? (Or mayeb it hasn't!)

Well, I've just started a new job and am slightly swamped at the moment- plus, this shouldn't be an especially hard round but I've recieved only one guess so far- so I am going to extend this for another week.

    Sorry!

Okay- after a slim guess ratio and a week?s extension, we finally arrive at the end of Round 40: ??But With A Whimper.? Apparently, these clips were somewhat more challenging than expected (1 person identifying each clip!), so this quiz didn?t exactly end with a bang. Nonetheless, the answers will be revealed, and so will the winners- so let?s get to it!
    1. Star Trek: The Motion Picture by Jerry Goldsmith. The Meld.
    2. Mulan, by Jerry Goldsmith. The Huns Attack.
    3. The Prince of Egypt by Hans Zimmer. The Red Sea.

Our submitters on this final round were:
    Miana Kenobi ? 2 points
    Well_Of_Souls ? 2 points
    The-Tennis-Ball-Kid ? 2 points

This puts our final totals at:
    Scoot ? 31 points
    Well_Of_Souls ? 22 points
    Darth_Vader-Anakin ? 15 points
    Outrider462004 ? 12 points
    TheBoogieMan ? 10 points
    Miana Kenobi - 10 points
    __Vader__ - 8 points
    MrUnderhiII ? 8 points
    HookLineAndSinker ? 5 points
    The-Tennis-Ball-Kid ? 2 points

That means that our winner for the quiz is, of course?

    Scoot! Congratulations!

The VIPship is in the mail!

You?ve won the battle! But who has won the war?? Is it any surprise after the crushing lead of rounds past that our returning champion is, once again, the illustrious?

    Well_Of_Souls!

    Scoot ? 31 total
    Darth_Vader-Anakin ? 30 total
    The-Tennis-Ball-Kid ? 28 total
    TheBoogieMan ? 25 total
    Darth-Lutgerous- 24 total

Have a wonderful Christmas, everyone, and I shall see you on the other side for Quiz #5! [face_peace]

All right... barring quiz director forgetfulness (a DISTINCT possibility) the quiz should start up again on Saturday. (If nothing happens, PM me- the digital equivalent of poking someone with a stick.) Anyhow, the Christmas rush is past, and it's time to get back to enjoying some music again!

    Happy New Year, everyone!

...Aaaaaand we're back! A new quiz, a new chance- you know the drill! PM me with the answers, newcomers are welcome- and certainly shouldn't feel restricted to just the beginning of new quizes- they're welcome anytime- so, without further ado, let's get to it!

This round has just a little something to do with commonly asked-about Star Wars pieces on the forums. As such, we will skip the composer name- just submit movie and original track name. 1 point each. Easingy slowly in with a simple round. Good luck!

And, triumphantly returning for Quiz #5, it?s Round 41: FAQ! Let?s kick things off with the correct answers, as usual- and see who our returning champions are!
    1. For those that love to ask (as I did, before getting the TPM SE soundtrack) ?What is that music in ROTS when the Invisible Hand is burning up through the atmosphere?? We get the Phantom Menace Ultimate edition soundtrack track The Tide Turns/Death of Darth Maul!
    2. For those who ask (and for some odd reason, typically revile) ?What is that music that plays as Anakin and the clones are marching on the Jedi Temple in ROTS,? we have the much-beloved Love Pledge and The Arena from Attack Of the Clones.
    3. And for those who ask ?Well, what is the music they use in all those TV spots for AOTC that?s not on my soundtrack,? we have the exclusive Attack Of The Clones Bonus Track, On The Conveyor Belt.

So, now you can refer all newbies (and hey, which of us hasn?t been there at one time or another?) to the OFFICIAL Film Music Trivia Quiz so that their Frequently Asked Questions can, at last, be answered! Meanwhile, in the category of those who are definitely NOT newbies at this, we have:
    The-Tennis-Ball-Kid - 3 points
    Outrider462004 ? 3 points
    Well_Of_Souls ? 3 points
    Scoot ? 2 points
    Miana Kenobi ? 1 points

Nice work, and welcome back, folks!

Okay, so I pulled out the three clips I had slated for this week, listened to them, and tried to figure out what the heck kind of theme I had going here. It seems that it?s some kind of ?Action Hero Movie Sequel Music That Was Largely Complained About By Fans Of The Original.? But that?s not really the point. The point is, they?re mixed together. I?m looking for film (correct film- if you name the original, I won?t credit you) and composer- 1 bonus point each if you can name the track. Which should make at least one of these a very easy, very recognizable 2 points. Actually, all three come through nice and distinct for once- even if for the first half of the clip you?ll probably think you?re only listening to one track- so this should be a fairly easy 3-6 points for everyone. Don?t hesitate to jump on in, veterans and newcomers alike- they won?t stay easy forever!

Ack! Now I am really confused- a fact checking, prompted by Well_Of-Souls, reveals that one of the three is in fact NOT a sequel as I had believed- so now I REALLY don't know what theme I was going for at the time! (Maybe there should be a little less turnaround time between planning these rounds and posting them?) Sorry for the inconvenience.

I think I figured out the problem everyone seems to be having with the third clip- it blends so well with the other two, it sounds like one of them. Listen to it again once you know what it is, and I suspect it will be far easier to pick out, right at the end. So, let?s continue on with the answers to Round 42: Anticlimax (A.k.a. A Big Muddled Mess).
    1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man?s Chest, by Hanz Zimmer/Klaus Badelt. Wheel of Fortune.
    2. Spider-man (the one I mistakenly had listed as a sequel) by Danny Elfman. City Montage.
    3. And finally, the most recognizable which became indecipherable in my zeal to obscure it, Superman Returns by John Ottman. Main Titles.

So, there you have it. Listen for the flair of the main Superman theme at the 8-9 second mark. It?s there. Barely.

So, the winners for this round, battling through the extreme audio confusion, were:
    Well_Of_Souls ? 4 points
    Andy1044 ? 3 points
    Scoot ? 2 points
    __Vader__ - 1 point
    Miana Kenobi ? 1 point

Which puts our grand totals at:
    Well_Of_Souls ? 7 points
    Scoot ? 4 points
    The-Tennis-Ball-Kid - 3 points
    Andy1044 ? 3 points
    Outrider462004 ? 3 points
    Miana Kenobi ? 2 points
    __Vader__ - 1 point

Now, before we move into the next round, just a quick procedural note- first, sorry for the delay for the answers this round. Second, just in case I haven?t claimed the title of Flakiest Quiz Manager Ever, the OFFICIAL Film Music Trivia Quiz is going to be on hiatus again? for February. Pretty much the whole month. Sorry. Nonetheless, we?ll still have answers next week, and I shall endeavor to leave behind a round obscure enough that a month is a reasonable answer period.

Now then, back to our regularly scheduled programming?

The rotation has carried us through to an extremely simple round (or so I suspect- I have been wrong about that before?), with three films involving the seeking of treasure. In fact? way too easy. So I am, as I type this, replacing one of the clips (a second Pirates of the Caribbean week in a row!) with a newer, much trickier clip. There, that?s more like it. :D

Also, we?re switching hosting to my website, Nolinecinemas.com (feel free to stop by and check it out) and I?m now having trouble accessing Ripway for some reason- the former clips should still be up there, but I don?t know for how long.

    http://www.nolinecinemas.com/Music%20Quiz/Quiz%201-21-07.zip

Now, guess and the points will be given unto you, seek and ye shall find! Good luck!
