I had been wondering about the similarity of the Tycho name, but I didn't know it was an actual "real" person's name also. Love the factoids.

 

I always associate that pic with Futurama:
"The whole sector's uncharted!"
"It's not uncharted, you lost the chart!"

 

Can't argue with that. Probably the best reason to go along with something, even if it's a vague, muddled path to get there. Pity there's no way to harness that feeling into a definable filtration system for information harvesting: think of the time it would save!

 

As I said before when the naming influences thing first started, White Collar is the only reason I have even heard of Tycho Brahe before.

 

Same, and even I had to refresh my memory by Googling him just now.

 

Kind of difficult to forget, I'd think.

 

I remember him mostly from astronomy books - his system being intermediate between heliocentric and geocentric (Sun orbits Earth, nearly everything else orbits Sun.)

 

I present to you, Tycho Brahe's (severed) nose.

 

The fact that he lost it in a duel makes reading that article worthwhile.

The kids love hearing about Tycho Brahe as part of my school/library presentation about Jupiter Pirates. I tell them that fighting duels is a really bad idea, and fighting duels and losing your nose in one is a worse idea, but if they DO somehow wind up fighting a duel and losing a nose, having a silver nose is pretty darn cool.

I'd work in the drunken elk and how he died, but the teachers tend to look a little aghast as it is.

It's real and it's spectacular.

Haha. You'll make up your own mind about that, but I think it's a good story and enjoyed conceiving it with LFL's help and writing it.

 

I've always liked Badass of the Week's rather NSFW take on historical figures, and good ol' Tycho Brahe is no exception.

 

Was Story Group involved?

 

Is the story an adaptation of a tv show arc or a standalone with the same characters?

 

Standalone in same setting. Not an adaptation. I'm excited about that. Not that I don't love adaptations -- they're a different animal is all.

Yes, Story Group was involved. But there's no big mystery there. I wish I could say the approvals process now includes a gilded chamber and strange incantations, but from an author's perspective (which, granted, may be a rather limited POV) things are much the same -- LFL has always had the relevant folks review stuff and weigh in. The approvals process for Edge of the Galaxy wasn't really all that different than the one for Shadow Conspiracy.

 

The day we finally get to know what exactly has changed will call for a celebration... Some of us are getting quite anxious about not knowing and receveing mixed signals.

 

Because a silver nose beats the alternative...
