I have two questions for John,
    1. do you have any plans of bring Ros Lai from Infinitys End into any of your stories in the ongoing series? because she was brought to Coruscant and trained by the Jedi at least TimeTales says that and it would be cool to see her come in and help Quinlan Vos,Tholme and Aayala.

2.Does Master Tholme have a first name and if so will it be revealed?

    Hello!
Just got SW#43 and enjoyed it. I liked Quinlan's mention of Master Zao even though Aayla and Zao never really met.
He just took off at the end of Darkness like a leaf!

John, of course you are welcome to discuss your other projects outside of Star Wars in this thead!

That is the whole purpose of the Authors & Artists forum... a venue to not only discuss the Star Wars releases from the Authors & Artists, but their other work as well.

Looking forward to the big announcement from the San Diego ComicCon... how long until that event takes place?

Matt! I remember that question. :) I got to ask one as well. I asked if ongoing was going to keep at its current pace or skip ahead to AotC stuff. I got more of an answer needed for what I asked for. Jan informed us that it would skip ahead to two years before AotC and then Randy reluctantly (kinda) gave out that info about Republic and Empire.

Anyway, back to the main topic. :)

There's no CURRENT plans for Ros Lai but that doesn't mean there COULDN'T be. If you really want to see her, tell Dark Horse and have others tell DH as well.

    >>2.Does Master Tholme have a first name and if so will it be revealed? <<

    It's Bob.

    Just kidding.

I've always felt that he had just one name but I could change my mind as well down the pike. For right now, let's say he has only one name.

I'll check and let you know. I know it's just a few weeks in any case.

That's in HONOR AND DUTY which is now a three parter that takes us up to issue 48. Something else happens in issue 49.

    Hi John

    Tom AKA villiemace here.

I have just got rite of passage issue 2 and read it. I thought it was excellent. I like how Count Dooku is secretly in charge of everything and that the kidnapping is part of the plan to make Ryloth join Dooku's Confederacy. Superb stuff.

There were two things in this issue that made me laugh:

    1. When Tholme is being tortured and interrogated by Kharis, he says to Kharis that he will accept his surrender. A bit cocky of Tholme in the situation he is in!

    2. When Quinlan and Aayla are at the casino with Villie and Quinlan uses the force to affect the game, Villie calls Quinlan a NAUGHTY Jedi. Absolutely hilarious!

I have a question to ask.

Will Villie appear in any more issues after Rite of Passage? He is one of my favourite characters.

Looking forward to issues 3 and 4 of Rites of Passage

    Keep up the good work.

    Best Wishes

    Tom

I have three questions for John:

1.did Master Zao leave Kiffu right after he landed there in Darkness?because he isnt with the other jedi and it seems like he vanished like leaf in the wind.

2.Volfe Karkko was an awesome Dark Jedi, and also a tragic figure however because he couldnt over the Anzati desire for "Soup" which brought him to dark side, did you have a hard time writing him?a vampire like jedi is awesome but has to be difficult to write.

3.Do you think Quinlan Vos will ever regain his memory of his life before he had it taken away from him?i hope that as a Jedi Master he will find his memories again or maybe he can have a Mind Meld with Tholme or Ayala and relive his life through their memories of him.

Also all of your work in the Ongoing Series has been awesome especially Twilight and Darkness,Rite of Passage is pretty good too and promises to get even better with the Morgaki, i also loved the Stark Hyperspace Wars.

Given your handle (Villiemace), I could sorta tell he was one of your faves<g>.

Villie will show up here and there. He's one of my favorite characters as well. I have TOO much fun writing him. In fact, I have to make sure when he shows up that he doesn't wind up taking over the story!

That said, we have big plans starting in issue 49 so we'll see how things develop.

    >>1.did Master Zao leave Kiffu right after he landed there in Darkness?because he isnt with the other jedi and it seems like he vanished like leaf in the wind. <<

We wanted him to just be gone. For all we know, he could have stayed on Kiffex although i think it's more likely he was also on Kiffu and then just. . .followed the path the Force led him on. As he says, he is a leaf blow by the wind that is the Force.

    >>2.Volfe Karkko was an awesome Dark Jedi, and also a tragic figure however because he couldnt over the Anzati desire for "Soup" which brought him to dark side, did you have a hard time writing him?a vampire like jedi is awesome but has to be difficult to write. <<

Glad you liked Volfe. At the time we encounter him, he is fully a Dark Jedi, having given his hunger free reign. Not really that hard to write. More difficult would've been the time leading UP to that -- how to convey that he WAS a good jedi but also had a certain arrogance. Hmmm. Sounds like a certain padawan I know!<g>

    >>3.Do you think Quinlan Vos will ever regain his memory of his life before he had it taken away from him?i hope that as a Jedi Master he will find his memories again or maybe he can have a Mind Meld with Tholme or Ayala and relive his life through their memories of him. <<

I don't think so. The important thing is that Quin has come to terms with it and is okay with it. He doesn't agonize over what the lost memories might have been; he accepts he had a life before that it is a closed book to him.

Wedge 88 - Yeah, I remember that! Word on the split was leaking out, but Randy was trying to hold it down as best he could. I was at an earlier panel where SW comics in general were discusses and I asked kind of a leading question to Jan to get her to talk about Aayla, who I knew already she was proud of and I wasn't sure how many people knew she was going to be in Episode II. Wanted to get that out and give Jan a chance to rightly gush about her baby. :) Oh and John's too! :D

John - Re: Quin closing the book on his lost memories. There was a moment in ROP 2 where Aayla and Quin were discussing that. And it got me thinking... Aayla has all her memories back... I wonder... would it be possible to do a transfer of at least some of these memories to Quin? I feel like Aayla remembers something she NEEDS Quin to remember but he doesn't...

Maybe I'm reading far too much into this!

Thanks again for the generous contribution of your time!

If Aayla is thinking about revealing her true feelings for Quinlan then I'm all for it. The Empire is looming so its now or never...

My take on Issue 49's big change: It must deal with Villie...
    becoming...
    a Jedi! :D

Quin's a Jedi. To me, that means he comes to terms with the loss of memory. He accepts it and moves on. Who he is NOW is who he is NOW. He knows SOME of what has happened in the past because of records kept by the Jedi about the missions.

Also, Quin's abilities works on OBJECTS, not really on people. It should be something non-sentient. Psychmetric (reading off objects) is diffeent than telepathic (working from somebody's mind). Now, to a degree, all Jedi are telepathic, right? Especially opadawans and masters (even former padawans, I should suspect; there is the bond). So i suppose that, by opening her mind she (or Tholme, for that matter) could share those memories. But, for me, that's a cheat. i'd rather see Quin able to COPE with the loss and say, "That's who I was; this is who I am." To me, it seems healthier and just more like a Jedi.

Jan and I once had a discussion about that and we agreed that a romantic pairing between a master and his/her padawan (even former padawan) just struck as, well, a little too incestuous. The bond between the two is more like parent/child and/or student/mentor. So we don't see a relationship like that between Aayla and Quin.

    Villie says:
Har har. You big much funny guy. Not laugh so hard since drop salt on Hutt. Villie becomes Jedi? Don't think so. Too sick idea even for Villie. Come closer. Villie brainwash you brain with blaster, yes?

Fair enough John. And I agree, Quin is who he is now. Like Wolfe said, you can't go home again. You can only go on.

Besides, the characters are far more interesting this way and interesting characters equal interesting stories!

    Agreed!

The comics featuring Quinlan Vos, Ayla Secura, Villie, and Master Tholme are always very interesting...excellent work mr. Ostrander.

I have one question for John:
If NT annoys Villie as much as he lets on why doesn't he just have its memory wiped and reprogram it?

Oh from Rite of Passage #2 two lines I thought were very well done were when Quin pays Villie for his help and he calls Quin a very naughty jedi and earlier when Ayla saves Quin and one of the thugs say "Wuzzdis Yum Yum wit Lightsaber." (I thought man, those are famous last words.)

    >>I have one question for John:

He's hardwired her into the Inferno and she's created her own reducndancy systems. The anti-grav ball you see is just part of her; she's really part of the ship. Villie keeps TRYING to re-wire the ship to take her out but she keeps shifting to other circuits. Also, hunting down the circuits is a little more work than Villie is inclined to do. Villie is a tad possessive about INFERNO so he's won't trash the ship to lose her.

Villie usually gets a real good line in whenever he shows up. It's hard to keep him from taking over the story!

And underestimating Aayla is a very very very BAD idea<g>!

    All the best

    Hey group!

Thought I would alert you to ANOTHER book that I do that I came out this week. It's from Marvel (in their MAX line), it's a Western, and it's called APACHE SKIES. I mention it because the art is SO gorgeous. Leo Manco, the artist, has done it it all in colored pencil and watercolor and you have to SEE it to understand. Oh, and the story isn't too bad, either, IMO!<g>

Jon I'm getting the first issue of Apache Skies when I get to the comic store, I already have #1 in my bag.

What I'm asking about is I saw a story called Blaze of Glory mentioned in the solicitation text at marvel.com. Is there any connection between Blaze of Glory and Apache Skies?

Mr. Ostrander the comics you write are great! I'm a huge Aayla Secura fan and I enjoy the comics/series she featured in immensly! (I like the other characters such as Quinlan Vos, Tholme, Master Zao, Tra'Saa and off course Villie, too but my favorite Star Wars character is Aayla Secura.)
Thank you for all the great work, picking up those comics and reading them always makes my day. The stories and characters are awesome! :)

One of the greatest scenes from 'Rite of Passage 1' for me was the little Aayla hugging the teenage Quinlan, the look on the young Aayla's face. I still think as was said above that it could have a deeper meaning seeing how in 'Rite of Passage 2' Aayla is confronted with a Quinlan Vos who's no longer the Quinlan she knew.
I wonder what you have planned for them and how their past bond will play out, we see how little Aayla holds Quinlan and looks at him, their deep bond was also clear in 'Darkness 4' but in 'Rite of Passage 2' Aayla looks dissapointed, in the spaceship she even looks a little 'torn', as if thinking where the Quinlan she knew has gone? Even for a Padawan/Teacher bond ...

Quinlan himself did rather 'scare' me in 'Rite of Passage 2', he gets his hands a dirty manipulating Villie's (Villie is so cool! But I think you might be up to soemthing with him too ... then again Villie is always up to something!) dice toss, his sardonic smile as he battles those bounty hunters, it's almost frightening. I've been wondering what's really going on inside him.

I think we readers and fans might be surprised with what you have in store for them in 'Rite of Passage 3 & 4'! :)
