    The secret is out.

The "mystery project" that Jan and I have been working on these past few months has been announced over on the Dark Horse boards. It is STAR WARS LEGACY and it is set 100 years AFTER the events in NJO and the upcoming Legacy of the Force novels. In other words -- an era you've never seen before. Anywhere.

I'm sure one of you can load a link to the announcement on the DH board which has some of the art for the project and more info. I have to be away for the next week or so but I'll check in with you all when I get back.

    More info to come.

    John -

I guess my question would be: how much do you know about Legacy (of the Force)? If you don't know the whole story, can you be certain that your series won't be "Elseworlds" and be contradicted by what came before it?

If you do, won't this piss off the people who say that they despised Bantam because there was "no fear" for the characters in a setting where you knew their fates (from future timelines)?

    *blinks*

    Oh. My. Gosh.

I don't know whether to be completely thrilled, or utterly terrified. All new Skywalker and Sith Empire... that's what I'm afraid of.

But with JO at the helm, it could be one of the most amazing entries in the universe yet.

Very much on the fence, but... I'm hoping it'll be amazing.[face_praying]

I'm excited and apprehensive at the same time. My concerns would be that it has the potential to be:
    A) too far away from anything we know to be familiar or of concern.
    B) a retread of stuff that we've already seen.
    C) a massive dump on the future development of EU.

But I'm excited to read it and find out what it's like. Wow. Could be cool.

edit: Okay. Having read the "Link to the Future" article with the bit about Cade Skywalker, I'm definitely kriffing terrified. Absolutely $#itting myself. This can be reeeeeeally interesting, but it's so risky! Can't wait.

edit #2: Anyone else think Cade looks like Steven Tyler? I guess that "Who should Ben marry?" thread is suddenly more relevant...

    [image=http://images.darkhorse.com/darkhorse/index_images/news/legacyzeropg.jpg]

And Cade? [face_thinking] I think I could like that name :)

    EDIT:

Only qualms are that thier are still SKYWALKERS.. noo.. but atleast everyone I know and hate will hopefully be LONG gone.

But hey, its what ive been asking for.. a new series in the past or future with all new characters.. and I got two..

My thought on the first post in this thread was: !!

My thought on the one-sheet was: SITH!

My thought on seeing "Cade Skywalker" was: *yawn* bleh. Whatever.

Though that said, I do appreciate the combination of visual cues. It's just one of those "could try harder" moments.

    Sorry.

What we're doing has been looked at by LFL and shared with all the authors of LotF. Nothing we do is going to contradict or even reveal what is happening in those books except in one or two minor ways. Although our book is called LEGACY it is NOT tied in to the upcoming LotF novels.

The link that works, I think, is http://www.darkhorse.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=8732

There's the cover to our 0 issue and a page of artwork introing one of the characters.

You'll learn more next month as the first issue is solicited.

There will be some familiar things i Legacy but we want to give the same charge (hopefully) as the first time you encountered SW -- you didn't know the characters, didn't know what was going to happen to them, didn't know what was going to happen next. It's ROOTED in SW tradition but. . .it's a whole new era. And the ONLY place you'll find it right now is the comic.

I've been DYING to tell you about this. Even now, I can't tell you everything. I think you'll find iut worth your time.<g>

It's interesting that Cade has a modified Mando symbol on his arm.

It's actually more like a skull and crossbones. (Get it? Cuz he's a pirate! Heh...[face_worried]) Though, I will say it seems to want to remind the reader of the Mando symbol.

edit: I take that back. It looks pretty Mando-ish. Methinks the LoF series will have something to do with this.

Is this the "big announcement" that Dark Horse mentioned at CIII, or is this one of a few?

Yes, but, see, there's that bit about the prophecy...and balance...and "destroy[ing] the Sith, not join[ing] them..."

Again, I'm sure LoF will clear this up.
You just made this struggling college student's day.

The prophecy was "Would bring Balance to the Force" it never said how long Balance had to last.. 10 seconds, 10 years.. not very clear.. and the whole Prophecy is clearly misunderstood by BOTH the Jedi and the Sith..

Eh, the Prophecy would be easy enough to fix, just say that Sidious was the only Sith powerful enough to throw it out of balance and bam you get Sith that are back in black and you get prophecy fixed. Especially considering Luke will (unfortunatly for me) probably be long dead but, Cade looks awesome so I'm happy.

From the little I've seen though it seems like they've done a great job keeping that Star Wars root that it needs but making it different enough that it's definitely the future and grungier which fits the way that the galaxy was heading.

Though his being a pirate could set up for the GFFA either falling and anarchy reigning or the GFFA turning into another Empire and him fighting that, though I'm still not sure I like the idea of a non-Jedi Skywalker.

    Hmm....

I wonder what the state of the galaxy will be? Will there still be a democratic Galactic Alliance? A unified Jedi Order? Will there be a old, grey, Ben Skywalker? Alot of questions.

I am excited, but also a little bit nervous. That is going to be a big jump into the future. It has the potential to be a major success or failure. New characters, ships, worlds, and events.

Difficult to see, the future is. ;)

    Oh. My. Effing. God.
    Nice.
I cannot wait to see what Cade is like, what signifegance the Mandos have (judging by the modified symbol), and what has happened to the galaxy.
    Frelling sweet.
