Look at the original picture--that's what it actually looked like because of the light. THis isn't an effects thread, though.

That is a bad ass glow, though. It even looks really good with that flat edge on the top part of the blade, like neo likes.

the only flaws are that you can see the glass case outside the core, and it doesn't continue all the way up

but this is not an effects thread.

maybe once i get those pictures of my hilts we can get this thread back on topic.

    Thanks :)
Any ideas on how to make them look more like metal (besides actually making them out of metal)?

there's a kind of tape you can use to make a hilt look like metal. i don't know exactly what it's called, chrome tape, foil tape, heat tape, something like that. it's essenttially sticky tin foil.

    Maybe try chrome paint?

Last time I used it, I thought chrome paint only worked on metal.
Have they come out with something new since then?

That tin foil tape thing, as I recall, tears like tin foil, too, though. Besides spray paint, I wouldn't know anything else...

yes, it tears, it dents, it scratches. but that just adds realism to the hilt. the problem is paint flakes and falls off.

Hey, nice timing on the bumpage. I'm a week late, but it's still a Wednesday. Here's lightsaber #3:

If you browse RandomSabers from time to time, you may notice the similarity in design to Strident. I was going to have them remake Strident for my film, but decided to just make it myself, and to my own specifications.

Here is a saber that I designed a few months ago. I am in contact with random sabers right now to get in made. (they said they could do it for just under $100) any way it would be for a Jedi.

Any comments on the design are welcome...

I did use Lightwave 3D to make it but no I don't have any more angles of it. (this is the only render that I kept)

    nice render too.

No offense to either of you, but how is that a nice render?[face_thinking]

Thats the epitome of an "artificial 3d" render.

As I said no offense to you Eamon, a standard render is a standard render.

I really like the design though...good stuff. [face_peace]

You planning on making it a duel saber?

it's very well antialiased for starters. It wouldn't exactly be nice without any antialiasing now would it?

I got ya; I was just curious...

I modeled a saber a while back and I got a quote from randomsabers but never got the wheels in motion.

Yes, it will be fitted with a 1/4 inch wood or carbon fiber "dowel" for sparring. The people at Random Sabers make hilts to fit fan film uses (like staged lightsaber combat)

I have also made two "low grade" saber hilts for combat. Each is about $7.00 (USD) worth of PVC pipe fittings, black electrical tape, and silver spray paint.

Off Topic: As most of the people on this board I am in the seemingly never ending pre-production phase of a Fan Film. Although my wife just today gave the "okay" to buy a Canon Gl2 with some of our tax return. Camera Site

    P.S. Nice render & look for a saber gallion311.

Just a forewarning, BestPriceCameras.com is a scam. Thought you'd like to know. Do yourself a favor and buy from an official Canon reseller, or better yet, buy it in a store if you can. Now, back to your regularily broadcast hilt thread :)

Nice designs, especially the claw one. But is it just me, or do the look a little... wrinkled?
