Is anyone using Adobe Photoshop Elements, its what came loaded on my computer. I can get everything on the saber done correctly, except the outer glow. The outer glow is always the color as the inner part of the saber, white. As far as I know, there is no way to choose the color of the outer glow.

There is a bunch of premade outer glows, like Blue Ghost, Fire, Radioactive, etc. If anyone knows a way to adjust the color of a glow in Photoshop Elements, LMK.

I just wanted to chime in and sing the praises of this technique:

    Lightsaber Blade Tutorial

I know I've already posted the link, but I must say . . this is a great way to create lightsaber blades. It's easy, and the best thing is . . you can save it as a Photoshop Action and quickly apply it to every image you need it for. I've used it on the last few images I've created and I'm totally sold on it now. Once the action was saved, all I had to do was change the color in the layer style box and VOILA!

    Cool lookin' sabers . .

My name is Nick, I go by the handle Master Valaryc. I have added to my site a tutorial on how to make lightsaber blades in Photoshop 5.5+.

I also have a ton of other things like a Lightsaber Forms study guide, custom saber handle designs, characters, stories etc.

If you want to see for yourself, check this out here.

Drop me a line and tell me what you think!

PS - Rox, you could have moved my post here.

    Otis,

Just wanted to give you kudos on the page formatting for your lightsaber tutorial, mine is a pain in the butt hehe. Thanks for the addition of credit too, I admire your tutorial and your saber handle is very nicely done.

    Anakin75,

I use a program called adobe Illustrator for my lightsaber handle work, you can see some of them on my site or in the fanart museum "miscillanous" section of force.net

Remember that lightsaber hilts, aside from Dooku tend to follow the same formatting, a long cylinder, it is how it's divided or built over that makes it take shape into a unique saber hilt design.

Seen from the top or side, saber hilts are really easy to make if you pay attention to the general shapes created by the activator box, rings, etc. Basic ones anyway, custom scroll work and more complex casings are another story.

    I have a problem:

Whenever I try to feather something, it doesn't work. No matter what the pixel value, it simply stays the same. Can anyone help?

I like AfterEffects personally. Check out the vids at FanFilmFX for tutorials, I think they're the current best.

    Valaryc,
    Thanks for the sugestion.

For those that care I made a lightsaber hilt from scratch in Photoshop 6. You can see it here.

I made the blade using a Photoshop 6 action from here.

Any comments or suggestions would be great.

I have a rather simple way to use for photoshop 4.0

    1. Create a new layer
    2. Use the line tool to draw the white core
    3. Use the Magic wand tool to select the line
    4. right click outside the selection and choose feather
    5. without deselecting, use the fill (paint bucket) tool to add whatever color you want as the glow.

You can add a lens flare to the hilt to make it even better.

I'm new to this section of the forums, and I didn't think I saw this tutorial. In the fanfilms section here at TFN, this is pretty much the definitive way of doing lightsabers in PhotoShop: Ryan Wieber's PhotoShop Lightsaber Technique.
It's a video (about 5.6 Mbs), so it's extremely easy to follow. It's basically the same in all versions of PhotoShop I think. Hopefully this will help anyone that needs it.

If you want to make a Lightsaber and you have Photo shop 7.

And if you have EyeCandy your good. This for comic book or drawing kinda Lightsaber. First you got to do the Filter Gradent Glow, then you do Corona. You swhich it inside, and adjust the white glow. This gives it that cool white center glow, whill haveing out color glow, just make sure you do this with layers. Dont just pile everything on to it.

You have to un-zip it first (obviously), then import it into the Styles Tab in Photoshop.

If you need more info, let me know and I'll post a better "How-To" later on when I'm at home on the ol' PC.
