The movie is pretty awesome, let's list what it does really well.

The only thing that worked with Maz was that JJ realized she didn't work therefore was cut back.

I liked Maz. She was actually a lot better than I was expecting. Shame she did get cut back in the end.

 

I'm surprised the Jakku chase thru the starship graveyard with Finn in the gunport of the Falcon hasn't come up more.

I thought that sequence was great. Gave me chills.

 

Loved that. I also loved how horribly she was flying it at first as it's running into things,

 

Yeah, and it also made me think that maybe everyone wouldn't think it was such a piece of junk if people knew how to fly it and we're crashing it into **** all the time.

 

Curious to see how long this thread is going to be.

Dog fights and humour were the best out of any SW imo.

 

I would say the creatures & droids overall did not disappoint. They seemed right for Star Wars and were convincing. (and I'm not really a "creatures & droids" guy)

 

I think the movie does more right than just this.

 

Considering 30% of the people here think it's the third best Star Wars, i'd say it has potential to be pretty long.

I'd personally add the Starkiller speech and then firing of the weapon was one of the most beautiful moments in the series.

 

I was the ONLY person who reacted to Rey turning the falcon off/on for Finn to snipe the TIE fighter. How depressing.
Love the ending with the resistance waving goodbye.

 

I'm lucky, my crowd was very involved the whole time. It was incredible.

I also heard tons of sniffling at the Han moment.

 

Kylo fricken Ren!

 

Once I got used to Carrie Fisher's voice I was shocked by how affected I was by the dialogue between Han and Leia. They really do feel like two people who love each other; they're sad not bitter about their separation. Han really felt like a father who missed his son. Leia really felt like a mother who wanted her son to come home.

 

Pretty much the entire film worked for me, save for the trash compactor callback and how they set up the Starkiller.

But holy crap was Kylo Ren fantastic.

 

YES YES YES YES YES

His physical body movements were fantastic in the movie, he emotes so well even with all that on. I love how he ignites his saber in that swaying motion.

 

X-wings coming in for a landing, seeing the gear deploy on approach.

Nice little detail in one of the scenes -- ever wonder how you move a ship with skid-type landing gear once it's on the ground? Dollies -- they actually had one of the X-wing's landing gear hoisted up on dollies and they were towing it around.

 

you know what I absolutely loved? The intro of the movie... It's one of the better intros imo.

Introducing Poe and BB-8
First seeing the new force power with Kylo stopping Poe
I LOVE how BB-8 runs off into the desert alone and it's dark ( desert at night looked amazing) ...
I loved how when Poe's ship exploded it shows bb-8 look up and then make that classic sad sound R2 always made.
Then that practical alien popping it's head up.

They nailed the movie.

C3PO's entrance was absolutely perfect and in line with him.

 

No one in my theater laughed harder than me at that scene.

I freaking love that obnoxious protocol droid.

 

It was classic.

 

Come to think of it... I have 0 problems with this movie. Also Rey putting on the resistance helmet. And her face before pointing out the button for Han to push in the falcon cockpit
