Obi-Wan's skills are probably the best in the Order. But I'm biased. :p

Seriously, though, his skills rank up their with Master Yoda and Master Windu.

His defense is really good. And as he got older, it only got better.

Hi, all. Happy Birthday New Obi-Wan Thread!!!

Guess we grew to big for our own britches.

Yeah, Obi has great skills, but his greatest strength lies in his connection to the Force - dedication and loyalty to the Jedi, along with his ability to think and keep his head together in near impossible and tough situations.

I really admire him for much more than his saber skills. Too many people think that is what makes the best Jedi, and it is sad that they can't see beyond the purely physical and into what really makes a person great.

As Yoda said, "Wars not make one great." In other words, your fighting skills are not the only thing that is important. When people speak of skills, I think of overall ability, not just physical.

That is why to me, Obi-Wan is THE shining example of everything a Jedi should be. No, he's not perfect, he's human - but he doesn't have an evil bone in his body. He knocks himself out way above the call of duty again and again, never expecting any praise or recognition at all for it. In fact, he shuns it and passes it off to others (this is your day with the politicians bit).

Oh well, Obi's saber skills are great, but his other attributes far outshine those, IMO. And to me, that's what's important.

Too bad I can't get my 100 Reasons Obi-Wan Is My Model Jedi over here....sighs.

When the skills of a Jedi are mentioned, they always stuff about offense and defense. They hardly ever say anything about their connections to the Force or dedication and loyality to not just the Jedi, but to all living things. You never see a Jedi turn his or her back on a living being. And that is easily overlooked. And I forgot what point I was going to make.

I know. All that matters to way too many people is how cool or tough one looks fighting - they forget the other important aspects of being a Jedi - commitment, caring, humility, service to others. It's sad because they totally miss the whole point of Obi-Wan's character. All they are looking for is some warrior hero and not someone who does good for everyone. Sad.

Oh, I agree completely, arbed. And that alone, is what most people don't understand about Obi-Wan. It is sad.

Well hello to everyone from our new home! [:D]

Very well said arbed. Obi Wan's strengths lie not only in his talent as a jedi, but in his heart and dedication to causes beyond himself. He's truly a selfless jedi who stands for what he believes is right. No hidden agenda, no greed. To me Obi Wan is the Ultimate Jedi, none can compare to him. :)

He's also a fantastic duelist and a very smart fighter and planner.

We need to start this thread right by posting some Obi pix:D

If they would put "Jedi" in the dictionary, I think a picture of Obi-Wan should be right next to it in definition.

Ever since I was 8 and saw ANH, Obi-Wan was what the Jedi are. Old Ben and his calm, get things done way grabbed me from the start and I was forever fascinated with the Jedi. Obi-Wan was so mysterious - I just HAD to know more about him. I was absolutely thrilled when GL decided to make the prequels and simply euphoric when I heard Obi-Wan as a young, gifted Jedi would be in it.

It is because of Obi-Wan that I love SW. He is IT for me.

Shiri: i had to put wet Obi in there [face_laugh]

arbed: indeed for me, old Ben was what made me be fascinated by the jedi and made me wonder what they would have been like in their prime. His calmness and wisdom just amazed me, and i was totally hooked on Obi since. :D

Of course, then came the prequels, where the character of Obi Wan was not only wise, calm but he totally kicked butt and was a sexy man ;)

For me, Obi Wan and Han Solo are the best from SW, hands down. =D=

Glad u enjoyed the pix :D

I saw the OT mere months before TPM came out. But once I saw Old Ben, I was hooked. I loved his calm and peaceful personality.

I always liked Wedge. I'm not quite sure why. o_O
