That reminds me of what a long journey this has been. The rise and fall of fandoms for characters before the movie has even come out.

I'm waiting for the obsession with they mysterious floppy nosed plucked turkey creature on Ahch-To.

Did anyone not learn their lesson with the Ewoks? I have zero interest in cuddly(even with fangs) little creatures who were created for the purpose of selling cute little things to kids. Even as an 11 yr old, I called BS on the Ewoks. Hopefully these space grouse will have little screen time

 

Learn their lesson with the Ewoks? What lesson was to be learned? The movie was a HUGE success and even though there was a vocal group who ragged on the Ewoks, they were mostly beloved!

Beloved? By whom? Most SW fans I have spoken to have the ewoks up there with jar jar. Star Wars was made for kids but I dont recall cuddly teddy bears or similar creatures defeating the empire in ANH or ESB. You can still have a movie for kids without dumbingit down. I get Lucas wanted a wookie planet and due to budget issue or tech issues, it wasnt possible but it just takes away from the situation.

 

The Ewoks didn't defeat anyone, they were a distracting agent and that was a success. They had sheer numbers on their side, allowing the Rebels to do what they did without being seen for the most part.

And yes BELOVED. Just because those you hang around don't like them doesn't mean people didn't love them for the most part. I had a Wicket Halloween Costume when I was a kid! I had an Ewok lunchbox, and I wasn't the only one in school who had one! As I said... there was a vocal group that didn't like them... and they're still out there, obviously you're in that group, but there is a larger group of fans who have no problems with them at all.

The Empire was defeated because they underestimated the little guys and didn't take them seriously... once Chewie took that AT-ST, the Troopers were toast, as they weren't prepared to face real firepower like that when they went out after them.

Here you go... from this very Forum oh so many years ago... MOST love the Ewoks, but there is a group that really HATES them too...

 

Ewoks are a part of my happy star wars memories from childhood just like porgs will be for many children and adults after TLJ. If done right cute/funny creatures have a place in the gffa

 

Not to mention tiny bipedal Bambie creature from the Solo movie. I think it already has its own fandom.

 

I haven't paid much attention to the Solo movie yet... my Star Wars anticipation can only handle one film at a time and right now TLJ has that slot... so I'm not familiar with the creature you're pointing out.
