The OT Trivia Challenge: Planning Thread

If we're going to use a point system, it can't be broken down by hours. That just seems like a pain in the butt to keep track of. Not to mention, everyone isn't online at the same time. It wouldn't be fair to give more points to people that answer first because time zones come into play. I'd honestly like to keep points out of this. I think the "correct answer, you move on" system is perfect. I think two days is plenty of time for questions to be answered. I also think the next question can be posted the day after the correct answer is given. I'd also like to keep the questions limited to just the movies and movie novels. There are a lot of us, myself included, that don't bother with any other books concerning the OT.

EDIT: If there's a controversial question that may have multiple answers, the person that is hosting the game will have the final say. The less hands in the mix, the smoother the game will run.

 

For example, competition works better with individuals instead of teams, and awarding points based on who gets the first right answer rather than every right answer submitted in the allotted time introduces biases towards people who can get online at a certain time of day.

Agreed, I wasn't aware they did it by firsts. Though I still like the idea of teams.

 

Exactly, two days for questions is plenty of time. I don't forsee time becoming an issue during the game. Teams are okay, but it's more of a challenge if it's individuals.

 

Teams are okay... so long all the members of the teams parcipitate. If they don't, it's not much fun.

 

That's another big reason why I'd rather have individuals. Another reason I'd like to have individuals is so we can keep the amount of people that have colors down to a minimum.

I wasn't really suggesting anything, i just thought a decent timespan so people from other countries could play too.

And no "first-in-best-dressed" stuff either.

These seem simple enough for now. Can't we try ot out like this, and see how things go? It seems like a small number of people will be starting out anyways. There's plenty of time to "tweak" the game before hoards (assuming) of people join in.

 

I doubt we'll have more than 10 people playing. I'm more than ready to start the process.

Here's a question: What's the policy on EU usage in the quiz?

For example, a good question might be "What is the name of the cantina song?" It has to do with the OT, but the answer ("Mad About Me") is found in Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina.

And while I can see why that sort of question might be considered too EU-based, keep in mind that practically EVERY minor character name, vehicle name, alien race, etc. etc. has its roots in the EU. (when ANH was being made, there were no Ithorians and Aqualish, only "Hammerhead" and "Walrus Man") So how far is the "no EU" policy (if there is one) going to be taken?

I'm going to do my best to keep it based on the movies and movie novels. I don't have a problem with using the EU to get definitive answers on alien species names or character names.
