Tiger going nuts. -7 on the day through 10.

-8 for the tournament. Still 7 off Simpson’s lead, but probable that number comes down.

edit - both eldrick and spieth shoot 65, move up 60 spots each on the leaderboard. top guys are just starting, leaders yet to play. if he finishes with good-to-decent golf tomorrow, a top 10 here could really serve as a nice boost going into the summer majors.

 

eldrick -3 through 6, up to a tie for 4th place.

nobody's catching webb without the mother of all meltdowns, but this has got to be really encouraging.

 

Looks like all eyes on the Thomas/Johnson/Woods group on Thursday.

shinnecock hills is no ****ing joke, man. goosen's -4 win in 2004 was the outlier - corey pavin won at even par, ray floyd at -1.

i think it's entirely possible that three tied at -1 will be the lead going into tomorrow, and nobody will be under par going into the weekend.

 

If DJ stays at -4, this thing might be wrapped up already. Crazy the cut looks to be at +9.

And in every year now all I can think to myself is how much I miss NBC having the broadcast rights.

 

golf.com's reporting that negotiations are under way for a Tiger vs. Phil match play event, with $10 million going to the winner.

If it was a night match, it'd have my interest. The concept of night golf, and the potential for chaos, is great.

 

Tony Finau continues to play real well in the majors this year. Best thing that happened to his career might have been dislocating his ankle in the par 3 contest.

Also, South Africa having a nice showing on the leaderboard so far.

Too bad Scott kind of fell apart there the last 2 holes to take any drama out....but that also left Tiger to get 2nd all to himself. Hope Tiger is really back - the PGA is just so much better with him playing well.

 

Agreed. That was a really enjoyable few hours. Koepka, despite missing all of those makeable birdie putts in the middle of the round, was steady and cool.

Great to see Tiger finish 2018 strong - should bode well for Ryder Cup and going into 2019.

61 months, 4 back surgeries later. I’m so happy for him.

 

I'll be honest I've never been a Tiger fan one day in my life but it's certainly good for the game to have him back. Only people who might have been happier than him today were the people at NBC.
