Buff, NY "The Physicists" - The Latest Play I'm In

Hey all,

I'm in yet another show, one that will be up in June. I thought I'd post early in case any interested parties wanted to check it out.

"The Physicists" by Friedrich Dürrenmatt
Directed by Drew McCabe (fellow UB alum)

The play stars primarily UB students and alumni. I play three characters, mostly smaller roles, in the show.

The play will be performed at the Alleyway Theatre, downtown in the Theatre District. If you need to Mapquest it, the address is

1 Curtain Up Alley, Buffalo, NY 14202

Our dates are

Fri. June 8 - 8pm
Sat. June 9 - 8pm
Sun. June 10 - 2pm
Fri. June 15 - 8pm
Sat. June 16 - 8pm
Sun. June 17 - 2pm

Admission is $10 cash at the door.

Sweet! I miss going to UB and Buff State plays.

 

What is the play about?

 

Well to be fair it's not a "UB play," as we have no affiliation with the school anymore. This is actually a new company formed by two graduates, named Theatre Helden (don't ask).

 

What's Theatre Helden?

 

He said you shouldn't ask!

 

He didn't say I shouldn't ask, he said not to ask

 

RE: The Play

The play takes place in an insane asylum where a physicist has locked himself away, for he has discovered a terrible secret to the law of physics and fears his idea falling into the wrong hands and being used as a weapon. Meanwhile, two spies enter the asylum posing as madmen, trying to obtain the secret for their own respective countries.

RE: Theatre Helden

"Helden" is the German word for "Heroes." Drew, the director and producer of the play, found a version of the Wallflowers' "We Can Be Heroes," sung by David Bowie, in German. So he got the word "Helden" stuck in his head. So the company is now called Theatre Helden.

Great story. I should tell it at parties.

 

UPDATE:

We're not going to be performing at the Central Terminal after all.

Apparently there was some sort of a contract issue with the space so we're currently looking for a new place to perform.

Once I find out where that is I will let you all know.

 

UPDATE:

Since we lost the Buffalo Central Terminal, we will now be performing in one of the spaces at the University at Buffalo (North campus). The exact location is TBD but once I know I will post it.

 

Great - Aaron and I would love to see a performance.

I updated the main post with the new info. The play is definitely happening at UB, in the Alumni Arena, room 190.

If you enter from the front doors of Alumni Arena, directly to the left of the lobby is the Theatre & Dance wing. Go into that hallway, and room 190 is the second door on the right.

Also, admission is now free!

Is anyone thinking of going? I know the Saturdays are out for me: my birthday and a ballet recital. Sunday 6/17 is Father's Day, so that would be out as well.

!!!ANOTHER UPDATE!!!

So, I lied.

Apparently we WON'T be in Alumni 190 thanks to the intervention of the Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. For whatever reason, he doesn't want us to perform there. Gret.

So we're working on an alternative.

The show may go back to a pay show (sorry to get peoples' hopes up with free), but I'll post as soon as I have the info.

...Especially since we open on Friday.

 

Geez Bryan... were you working all weekend taking tickets and candy orders at UB instead of looking into a new location or what?! LOL

FINAL UPDATE (I SWEAR)

We got a space!!!!!

We're going to be performing at the Alleyway Theatre downtown. Admission is $10, mainly because we need to get our money back for renting out the theatre and securing the rights to the show.

This will not change. I swear.

The first two shows have gone very, very well. It's quite the funny show.

Still hoping that some of you can make it out to see it, you will not be disappointed.

Our first matinée is tomorrow at 2pm, and then we have three shows next week. If you can make it please come and see it!
