Perhaps they don't deserve their own thread, but I think their appearance on Coruscant is very interesting and would make them widely used droids on the planet for general patrol and policing issues.

Some people don't like the idea of them being used by the Republic because it makes them too "CIS-like", but I disagree with this and depending what TCW series covers over its lifetime, they have some real potential towards the end of the series.

The way I see it, should TCW cross over into ROTS timeline where Jedi are declared to be enemies and are hunted down, these droids perhaps could be auto updated to store in their memory the profiles of each and every Jedi (name, appearance, etc). Advantage they'd have over clones is that unlike the human memory they could have instant access to thousands of jedi profiles and be able to instantly recognize them.

I can picture some episodes that would take place around the time of the Jedi temple massacre and the timeframe following that, that would mimick something along the lines of the movie classic "The Great Escape" with Steve McQueen. One thing about that movie that was so great, especially the first time round was wondering which of the prisoners would be able to escape and how the German officers hunted them down in a ruthless manner aboard trains, in the streets, towns and countryside.

In this aspect, you could have groups of Jedi flee the temple, split up into sub groups and even inviduals - some make their way to the Maglev stations, some perhaps to some kind of subways, some to vehicles, some try to hide in apartments where some citizens decide to help them, while others try to point them out. The police drone droids could be seen walking around and checking all these Maglev stations and passing through the maglev cars checking the profiles of all those aboard.

Seeing that scene how Cassie Cryar tried to avoid being approached by that police drone droid gave me the idea how they could be a real menace towards the end of the show in weeidng out Jedi trying to escape Coruscant.

The only thing that would perhaps be a good idea is to add a "Captain" police drone droid that has control over several squads, much like the Commando Droid Elite.

What are your thoughts on these droids and their potential?

I liked them, as they added variety and reminded me of some of the servant droids in KOTOR (specifically, on Taris when the Sith use them to spread propaganda).

I think that it makes perfect sense that they'd use machines and droids in these capacities. They ARE labour saving devices, after all. I can't imagine that only clones and sentients make up Coruscant security...the clones are mostly sent to the front lines, so there can't be to many of them working security (except for Commander Fox and the senate troopers :p), and the Senate Guards/Commandos seem like they're mostly for senatorial places and crimes.

Police drones could very well be the extra 'muscle' they use to help patrol the other areas.

Yep, exactly, they do the more boring labour and the clones go to the front lines to fight the war.

What you think of their potential later that I mentioned as the "bad guys", so to speak? Would be a real contrast compared to what we see in "Lightsaber Lost". I'm sure at that point they wouldn't lend a Jedi their speeder.:p

These guys were cool. Don't know if I liked the hats but I liked the idea of having to not waste the military on the streets. Perhaps a good number of these police droids had entered quite a few fights during the battle of Coruscant. :D

I'd equate them to glorified traffic cams and speed traps- they can do the surveillance routine work, and allow the sentient officers to focus on situations that need more support, since it'd be impossible to police all of Coruscant without a ridiculously massive police force.

I like them alot and their hats are a very nice touch. The only problem that I have with them is that they are too easily beaten. I mean granted that the two that we saw destroyed where cut down by a lightsaber, they should have a little more protexction on them. Maby a force-pike or a vibro-staff?

You probably wouldn't want low-level patrol droids armed with exotic or advanced weaponry- it'd be too easy to steal them. They're probably not meant to be used against lightsabers and hi-powered weapons, just average crime.

I would like that they would at least carry sheilds on them like destroyer droids. I mean If they ever got out of hand, I am sure that there is a main control station that could shut the droids off if they got out of hand.

Personal shielding is expensive though- that's why there aren't that many Destroyer Droids and why frontline droids and soliders don't carry them.

Very true, but I could see some of the police drones (if they have ranks) have shields. I mean the Republic should have ample ammount of money to afford shields for most of them.

As opinionated as I am, I really don't know what to think of these guys. I guess I would have to see them some more before I decide whether or not I like them/how effective they are etc. [face_thinking]

They wouldn't need shields most of the time- their presence should be enough to take care of most situations, like realworld cops. If things get sticky, then they can send in the shielded droids/policemen with riot gear and such.

I like the distinction made between those droids (everyday Police) and the Jedi (Feds/Armed Forces/Diplomats), and how related they obviously are to the protocol droid family of designs.

I don't think we heard their voices. If not, it'd be fun for Anthony Daniels to do them as a take on a British Bobby voice.

They did talk, briefly. Before that they kept making weird clicky-tweety noises.

I could certainly go for a little "'ere now, wot's awl this then" from them...

Yeah, that's what I mean, I think that only certain droids should have sheilds ( only used rarely on special situations). And again, about the money, the Republic would have no problem supplying a group of their police force with sheilds.

I just didn't care at all for their design. They looked more like bellboys than policemen. I would have preferred something like the Zed Police Droid:

    The Cylon rip off?

Personally, I like the designs. Reminds me of old-timey British police.

Yeah, I thought the point was that they weren't meant to be very threatening. They're simple law enforcement.

Everyone always envisions Star Wars to be so dark and intense. :p

Exactly. The reason why I love the PT just as much as the OT and (by my username) I love Ja Jar because I never pictured Star Wars dark and intense. The droids, the Jawas and the Ewoks were the total opposite. If more fans knew that they wouldn't complain and they would love the PT because they would understand that it is the same old, awesome Star Wars.

And I like the droids look, but they do have funny looking hats.:p

I liked them, but would love to see them be gradually replaced by clones. As we see in ROTS, clones have taken over much of Coruscant's security...and the ROTS novel goes into detail about how it has almost become a police state, with Bail Organa seeing clones everywhere.

What amazes me is that Revenge of the Sith did not put a stop to the "It needs to be darker!" whining, in spite of it being one the darkest fantasy films ever made.
