Who were the heroes in the PT? Who risked life and death countless times throughout. We all know the major guys, like Obi-Wan and Anakin (to a certain extent) but what about the lesser known guys...for example- Bail Organa etc.

Palpatine. He wins everything he is the hero (or anti-hero) of the PT, and the big loser of the OT.

Following the narrative arc of the Star Wars saga that continues through Episodes IV-VI, the real "hero" of the Prequel Trilogy is Anakin Skywalker. His journey ultimately does follow Joseph Cambell's Hero Cycle; however, in the Prequels, Anakin is a tragic hero, beset by an inner turmoil that resonates with the audience and turns an unlikeable and almost irredeemable villian into a tragically flawed hero. In a wondrous display of narrative exhibition, Lucas allows his audience to feel Anakin's inner turmoil, both in Attack of the Clones, where Anakin's first troubling visions appear, and in Revenge of the Sith, where Anakin is torn between his duty to the Jedi order and his desire to "save" his wife's life. Rather than choosing "the quick and easy path" and making Anakin a troubled and violent child, whose lack of a father results in an almost Freudian path to darkness (personified by such screen villains as Norman Bates in Hitchock's Psycho and Cody Jarrett in Walsh's White Heat), Lucas chooses a more complex, and ultimately more humane path, tracing Anakin's fall to his separation from his mother, his desire for power, and his obsessive love for his wife. Anakin's fall, while horrifying and tragic, mirrors the paths of other tragic heroes such as Oedipus, Hamlet, Faust, and Macbeth (among many others).

I don't intend to ignore the heroic contributions of other characters. Obi-Wan Kenobi is certainly a heroic character who, in Revenge of the Sith, conjures the inner-strength to fight his best friend, knowing that he might kill him, but also knowing that if he does not, he will plunge the galaxy into darkness. These themes of duty, loyalty, love, and friendship are what bind the two trilogies together and create a unified narrative arc that resonates with audiences of all ages due to these timeless and archetypal themes. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, our protagonists and heroes of the Prequel Trilogy, also become heroes again in Episodes IV-VI as Anakin, in a stirring act of redemption, saves his son and destroys the man who calculated and precipitated his fall into darkness.

And of course, how could I forget R2? ;)
