    Aosoth & Maeglin

    Passage Perilous, Haunted Woods

It took a much longer time than they would openly admit for the powerful and secretive coven of Augurs and Clairvoyants to recognise or identify that which they beheld. The news of the most recent development outside the black walls of Dark City seemed to cause a stir among the Viziers, who as usual, seemed to know more than what they were telling.

This new knowledge, though unconfirmed, was quickly reined in. The proper 'authorties' were to be informed immediately, but there was to be no other communication...lest a trip to the torturer's rack was one's fondest desire. The standing orders were just to observe and inform on any developments.

And so, the eyes continued their watch, and the whispering lips were rendered mute.

[color=green]Aosoth ventured, alongside with her slave Maeglin, sensed something from these Haunted Woods. she whispered to her slave, "My slave, I want you to find out what is out there and make this safe for our journey, do what you must." and she vanished, becoming invisible with the environment. she has great faith in her slave will do her orders. Maeglin----Haunted Woods----Main Path/Passage Perilous

They had only been traveling the marked path for less than half and hour when it seemed as almost the entire mood of the forest changed. Difficult to concieve that such a place as this could become more somber and oppressive, however it did. The wind moved barely, it might as well have been still, and the penetrating gaze of the forest seemed even more intense. Maeglin turned silently but quickly to his master Aosoth.

Milady, I know you sense it too. Something foul reaches through the air, even more than this place itself.

After tuning himself to the immediate surroundings further. Maeglin snapped his head back looking forward down the path, sensing the same feeling as before but even stronger this time. His eyes narrowed looking beyond, sighting a figure. The feeling surrounded the figure even at this range, however the sense that the aura Maeglin felt was not limited to this figure stuck out sharply in his mind. Maeglin could feel the black gaze of the figure, it was sizing him up, appraising Maeglin. Maeglin soaked the energy up, cloaking his feelings as best he could. He knew what came next, feeling the slight surge form Aosoth. "My slave, I want you to find out what is out there and make this safe for our journey, do what you must."

Maeglin heard the words crisp and ring true in his mind, but like so many times before Maeglin was far ahead of his master. He understood and made certain to follow every command to the last detail, but through their deep bond Maeglin had alread focused beyond her wishes, planning his next steps carefully. Maeglin did not turn to acknowledge or look at his master, he knew she had already disappeared, not particularly disappearing from this realm, though he knew she had such power, but blending becoming all but invisible to anyone near. It was possible that extremely adept and powerful persons would be able to detect her, but Maeglin knew she could more than handle herself. For her power overall far exceeded Maeglin, but Maeglin took up the van guard in most situations. His masters secrecy and remaining hidden was here biggest strength and ally. Maeglin did relish somewhat acting on behalf of her the majority of the time, yes he was a servant, a slave... oh how the word ripped at his gut. He promised himself one day...

Maeglin forcused further, beginning to step closer closing the distance now. Maeglin probed this individual, being an elf telepathy came quite easily to him, though he had refined and honed his skill over the years even being as young as he was for an elf. Checking his flanks with a shift of the eyes and senses from side to side, Maeglin sent his telepathic query sharply down the path. Cocking his head ever so slightly and piercing with his eyes.

A causious place you seek to meet us at my friend. Your business with us please?

Maeglin very well knew he may not even get a response form the figure. If it echoed back nothing Maeglin knew that trouble was about to befall him. Then again trouble may already be in motion. On the guard Maeglin reached in his well of defensive powers touching them barely as if running ones fingers across the feathers of an arrow, the arrow quivering to be slung into position on a bow. Was this an undead? Servant of the realm? The figure was shrouded too tightly at the moment, its intentions nto shown.

Now, as the fire died away, she had to wonder if going to the party would be any good, or should she just work some more with her spell. She knew, without a dought, if the spell was wrong, her life was forfiet. So she did the only thing possible, went headed back towards the shop.

Michealle strode into the shop, with the door banging against the wall. She quickly searched the shop area, "Ocklimar, you slow fool. I need some things, and a piece of something. Come, and the price might fit your tastes."

    The Shadow Demon, Voide
    Nocturne Mistress Matahari Viudos Estate

This particular Demon, this Harbinger of Chaos and Discord, slipped away from the gathering of the undead and their ilk for a moment. One could easily have too much of a bad thing. Voide instead decided he would take time to enjoy some of the festivities planned for the event he had not been invited to. In fact, had the Grand Magister not intervened, there was a distinct possibility that the festivities would have been quite rudely interrupted.

His long, graceful stride taking him through the gathering, Voide's brilliant blue eyes scanned the various acts and attention stealing performances around the massive estate. He spent a scant moment observing the Blade Dancers, but quickly became bored when they didn't bother killing one another. He then moved from performance to performance, spreading his own little piece of chaos throughout the party.

Voide then noticed the group of 'escorts' that had been assembled to provide a much different kind of entertainment, and the Shadow Demon already discovered that he was quite entertained. The man-form approached the group of women, and men, that had been gathered. He took stock of each of them, and used his own brand of manipulation on them. Those he approved of would positively glow with the small compliments he gave them, and the longing looks. However those who were not to his liking would immediately know it, either by being cut deeply with hateful words, or simply ignored entirely.

He then came across several that had donned red scarves, and Voide immediately knew that these particular companions were meant for greater things. They were all beautiful in ways that would leave almost any human with breath in their lungs or a beat in their heart. Voide had seen beauty in the likes of true Angels, and these creatures paled in comparison to such divine perfection. Still, they were quite the prize.

Stepping up to one, Voide took a moment to drag his thumb down the cheek of the smaller woman, a smirk sliding up his face. The Shadow Demon himself was only slightly shy of true, divine beauty, which was a result of his seed festering in a body designed for holiness. He perverted all that he touched, as he was now beginning to do with the woman. The back of his fingertips slowly slipped down the womans throat, and he found he was rewarded with a throaty purr. Few could resist the powers his kind, the Ancients desecrating the Holy, for long. Leaning forward, the demon moved his lips less than an inch from the womans ear.

"I could make you feel things you never thought possible."

Voide smiled devilishly, leaning casually back from the woman, who leaned somewhat forward with him. He was debating whether or not he would risk more to what was most likely a gift to one of the Nocturnes, when a voice sounded nearby. A voice that drew his attention more easily than any arousing woman.

"A Toast! I propose a Toast!" The Grand Magister said, his robes flowing out behind him as he raised glass of wine.

Voide broke away from the woman, unable to help the smile that slipped up his face as he heard her whimper. He made his way quickly to the Magister, deftly avoiding everything around him but a full glass of wine. He snatched it smoothly off a passing silver tray, and was soon in the loose circle that formed around the aged man.

"To the most beautiful Nocturne Mistress in Ur-Karpathos. A Joyous half-century celebration, and may your 100th be twice as Marvelous!"

Raising his glass with a smirk and a mock bow, the Shadow Demon swirled the wine in his glass once around the inside. He then stood back to full, bringing the glass back down in preparation to drink. He paused, however, to put his own little punctuation on the Magisters very optimistic toast.

"Assuming you live that long." He said calmly, before drinking the entire glass of wine in an instant.

Such was the way of Demonkind. His mission in life was to spread chaos, anarchy, and hate throu

Necrosgolgoth, Dominion of the Dark, Northern Callanthorith

Matahari placed a well bejewelled hand over her quivering lips. Emotion swept through her with such force that it became only too apparent how the gift had affected her. Smiling graciously as Matahari commented on the amulet's beauty, Vandranok felt the female's display of emotion wash over him like a rising tide. He shared in her pleasure and delight.

He looked down at her with his almost-glowing, ruby eyes, their depths as dark and mysterious as the inmost pits of the underworld. That she met his unwavering gaze and was all but swallowed whole in its orphic power was an experience few would ever know, though countless more might dream or desire a mere sliver of such allure.

Before all those present, some utterly breathless, a few dying with curiosity, certainly those with envy, and others who were only too interested, Matahari slowly turned. She picked up her long, lustrous, raven hair without seeming hesitation, to the gasps of amazement and soft moans of delight of her onlookers as she revealed her supple neck to the Legendary Hunter.

Time slowed to a trickle. With each beat of Matahari's stolen heart, the bearer of her gift moved closer. Vandranok lifted his arms, his hands reaching around to Matahari's exposed throat, where they brushed gently against her skin. Closer. He set the striking amulet of diamond, obsidian, and encrusted gemstones mere centimetres above her breast, and his head moved slowly toward her naked neck.

Slowly. He drew closer, his warm breath caressing the woman's vulnerable throat as his hands drew to the base of the neck, where they attached the ends of the amulet's chain to one another until it was as one. Closer still, he drew, until he almost kissed her throat, his hands sliding back across her collarbone until he finally withdrew.

The display passed in a flicker of precious seconds, so fast, yet so filled with passion that it might as well have been an epic tale for the few keen eyes that saw it through its stages to completion. Those who were not Vampires saw nothing but for the bestowing of a most beautiful gift. The Nocturnes, however, despite having seen so much more, were likely never to speak of such things openly.

The undercurrent of excitement had peaked as the necklace was clasped on, and then ever so slowly began to ebb amidst a sudden round of applause and cheers. "A Toast! I propose a Toast!" someone called from the crowd.

With robes flowing, the Grand Magister stepped into view, already holding a glass. His smile was bright and genuine. It was evident that he was enjoying himself this evening. His eyes scanned the assembled before he finally said, "To the most beautiful Nocturne Mistress in Ur-Karpathos. A joyous half-century celebration, and may your 100th be twice as marvellous!"

Servers hurriedly made the rounds among the invited as they filled glasses with drinks of choice. The toasting had begun, which meant that things were going to get quite lively from that point on.

Vandranok stood at, rather than returned to, Lilith Thornn's side. His movements were as swift as they were elegant. Wordlessly, he held in his hand a golden goblet, and presented an identical item to his companion. "It seems I am honoured with the presence and intimate company of more than just the one beauty this night," he said to her, his smile more than entirely disarming.

Unbeknownst to Lilith, and likely to many of the others, was the inner stirring Vandranok kept in the deepest parts of his being. He was not the only Hunter of Legend throughout the land. And, even as his eyes took account of the Shadow Demon Voide, he pitied those who thought differently, those who knew so very little of the true powers that reigned the Dominion of the Dark.

What those powers would set loose this night remained, as yet unseen.

    IC: Michealle (Ocklimar Magic Shop)

Michealle had yelled for the slow man, but he had not came out of his room. So she did the next best thing. She looked around for the other, "special", ingredients for another spell.

Pulling out a very small quill, and parchment, she wrote the few things that she needed.

    (THE LIST)
    "Fire from a Newt"
    "Breath from a Death Knight"
    "Spirit from Drizzit, the Druid"
"Still breathing lungs, from a fish"
"And one toe nail from a snake."

She then scribled her name on the paper, and laid it on the front counter. "These are the things I need. If you have them, please let me know. I will be leaving my 10000 gold pieces, here on the counter." As she laid the list and the gold on the parchment, she tried to cast a minor spell of holding. If it held, she did not care. Money meant nothing to her. Just the soul of her new servent.

Then she turned and left for home. The party was for gotten, other things now occupied her mind.

Still dealing with RL, but here's a little something for impetus. Viudos post coming soon. I can't apologise enough!

Ur-Karpathos, Ocklimar's Cave of Wonders, Item Shop

Ocklimar had been monetarily distracted by a telepathic message from one of his more powerful and influential clients, and only at the end of the message did he notice the fair maiden of magic depart his shop. The bells at the door announced her departure and the wards that protected his shop from teh arts arcane glowed faintky as they negated Michaelle's activated spell.

Ocklimar made a motion to call after her, but she was alreday out of ear shot and out the door. The shop owner sighed in resignation as he walked to the counter where he saw a note an a sizable bag of gold. Ocklimar swiped the note with one hand and with the other he hefted the weighty bag of gold. He grunted as he sought to better grip the bag of precious coins and wonder in surprise as how the fair lady managed to lift the bag herself and carry such an amount around without an escrort.

Ocklimar read the note as he made his way towards the back of his shop. He would create a safe box for the lovely lady. Of course, there was a small fee that came with the service, but he doubted she would mind his thoughtfulness.

Ocklimar did not trust himself to read the parchment aloud, since many arcane-types had a twisted sense of humor. The last thing he wanted was to plymorph himself unwittingly into a farm animal.

    "Fire from a Newt"
    "Breath from a Death Knight"
    "Spirit from Drizzit, the Druid"
"Still breathing lungs, from a fish"
"And one toe nail from a snake."

Ocklimar whistled as his eyebrows went so high on his head they would have lept off his face if it were possible. He knew now that his fair lady's name was Michaelle, and also that what she wanted was of a very high order.

"Toe nail from a snake? doesn't she mean a scale? Hmm....snakes with toes, eh?"

Ocklimar placed the note in one of his many pockets in order to retrieve a key for one of his many safe boxes. It took him only a moment to arrange one for Michaelle, place the bag of gold there in, then activate the complex locking system. He'd payed the engeeniering guild a small ransom in gold to create these safe boxes. Not to mention the inclusion of additional magical protections. Now, Ocklimar could devote a moment to go over Michaelle's list with further detail. The dark merchant retrieved the list once more and regarded it curiously. He studied Michaelle's handwriting more than the words written there on. Much could be gleaned from an individual's script form.

"Spirit of Drizzit!!?? Pffft! Yeah, right. If the legendary Artemis was unable to acquire the drow's life with that blade of his, what makes her think I could?" Ocklimar wondered outloud, then caught himself. Certain names were best NOT spoken aloud.

"Breath from a Death Knight!?! By all nine layers!!! Does she know what she's asking for?"

Ocklimar chuckled to himself because he was already thinking if there was any way he could fulfill the lady's order. At least the fish lungs would be childplay's, however, he needed to know the specific kind of fish.

Before Ocklimar could give the list further thought, the bells to his doors chimmed once more, announcing the arrival of a new customer. Ocklimar quickly shoved the list down his vest pocket and quickly came out from behind the shop.

"Long Night to you and Welcome to Ocklimar's how may be of serv...."

Ocklimar's eyes widened as he looked at the darkly cloacked figure that entered his shop, then took a step back in amazement as his eyes gazed at his door frame and then at the rest of his ceiling. The protective runes and magic inscriptions in his shops were all begining to glow an they were intensifying by the moment. They lit up brighter and brighter as the figure stepped closer still. Ockilmar felt a sharp jolt of fear suddenly take him. He knew that some powerful arcane force was trying to burn out all o

The door opened and the first thing she saw was her clothes torn to pieces. "Curse that zombie! He tore everything I own, except the few that I have not unpacked. Curse him!"

She walked out of the living into the "work room", beakers, funnels, and all sorts of testing equipment was laid out, that had to wait. She had something else that was needed right now, and it was in her book. Her spells, plus her old master's.

As she entered the room, her cloak got heavy and she had to take it off. She had maxed it out, and it was too hot to have on. So as she dropped on a chair, she saw the book. It was laying open to one page. She dared not look, for it change and begone from her, for ever.

She just turned and walked away, she had other things to worry about. First was, how to get what she wanted without going out in ball of fire. She sat down and started to ponder the question.

Not coming up with anything quick, she stood up and went into her labatory and started to pull beaker and burners down. In twenty minutes, she had almost everything that she needed. Then she went into her cabnet and stared at all the ingredents that she had.

    Eye of a lizard
    Flower of love (Rose)
    Two hearts of fire

Then she pulled out a plain old sword, and a very large cauldren. Then she built a fire underneth and lite it. The fire was burning hot as an oven, and the popping sounds from the wood, was very slowly warming the metal, that was now in it. In four hours, hopefully it would all be melted.

    Michaelle's Lab

Several hours passed, and although Michaelle continued to supply firewood to the cauldron, it never quite reached the temperature required to melt metal. A piece of nearby parchment was blackened by the heat alone, and it looked like it would soon combust. If the experiment contimued within the Lab, Michaelle ran the very real risk of burning down her entire lab. The type of fire she needed could not be generated by conventional means, and a mere cauldron could not withstand it.

Finally, a fiery ember leapt from the crackling wood unto the piece of parchment, which sizzled, then suddenly became alight as it caught on fire.

Necrosgolgoth, Ur-Karpathos, The Dark City, Nocturne Mistress Matahari Viudos Estate

Lilith Thornn didn't realise how enraptured she'd become with the whole affair of Lord Vandranok placing his gift upon Mistress Viudos' neck. Why, she hadn't even taken a sip from the handsome male specimen she'd chosen to drink from.

Then someone called for a toast. It was the Grand Magister. The clarity of his voice seemed to wake her from her reverie. Lilith smiled, already anticipating the first sip of her 'toast', but before she could sink her already extended fangs into the handsome vessel of vitae, a statement made by a dark voice stopped her in her tracks.

The speaker was the Grand Magister's own guest, the Shadow Demon introduced as Voide.

He'd tacked on his own brand of well wishing right at the end of the Grand Magister's words.

"To the most beautiful Nocturne Mistress in Ur-Karpathos. A Joyous half-century celebration, and may your 100th be twice as Marvelous!" The Grand Magister had said, to which Voide added; "Assuming you live that long."

There seemed to be a pause for half-a-heartbeat. Lilith smiled, but evilly. She turned away entirely from her handsome blood vessel and almost forgot him entirely as she was drawn into the web of intrigue. The Shadow Demon had thrown a barb, but to what effect?

"Oh my...." Lilith said feigning mild surprise. "It seems you doubt Mistress Viudos' longevity, or is it that you doubt the Grand Magister's well wishes?"

    Lilith laughed, enjoying the moment.

"Or...could this be your own way of challenging the good Mistress under her own house, even in the presence of Legends?" Lilith was gesturing now, to Mistress Viudos, The Grand Magister, The Dark Lady and Lord Vandranok.

"You certainly are a bold Shadow Demon to utter such words, but tell me, can you back them up?"

Lilith let her words hang in the air for a moment before speaking again. "

Lord Vandranok, what is your judgement?"

With that final utterance, Lilith gave Voide a long penetrating look as she stepped back and gestured once more, ceding the center of attention to the most powerful nocturne under Mistress Viudos' roof. Lord Vandranok.

Asyels eye's opened for the first time in who knows how long. Darkness surrounded him and as started to rise his body refused to obey. His limbs seemed to have become stone. Slowly he remembered his fall from the heavens. The pain of his wings being snaped and broken. Tossed down to the world below like some weakling.
With great effort he managed to restore movement into his limbs. Soreness filled his body but he eventually broke free of the small amount of dirt that had covered him.
His beautiful wings had healed. Yet it pained him to move them.
Looking around he found himself in a large cave no doubt deep in the ground. The cave was in almost total darkness. Asyel should have had little or no difficulty seeing regardless of the presence of light.
Unfortunately currently he was as blind as a bat. Rubbing his eyes he felt the layers of sleep that had covered his eyes. Hunger drove him forward and he stombled as he walked. A blur came to his vision but his sight was to weak for him to make any note of what was before him.
Wrapping his wings around him he felt there warmth and found little comfort in that warmth. After what seemed to be an eternal journey he came to an opening. A chilling wind blew open his face. Asyel's vision had greatly improved but was still far from perfect.

Finally, a fiery ember leapt from the crackling wood unto the piece of parchment, which sizzled, then suddenly became alight as it caught on fire.

As the parchment blazed up, her eyes grew large and frightened. Fire does not belong inside, and she knew it. "NO! Not now!", as she grabbed a folded blanket and laid it on the small, but growing fire and put it out. Though before she could did anything else, she quickly casted a water spell, to put out the fire for the cauldron. Rain poured putting out the fire, plus drenching everything in the room. Ruining the parchment and anything that was left out in the open.

After she could tell, that the fire was out, she stopped the rain. "Blast! I am ruined, I say ruined," she screamed at the top of her lungs. The parchment and the fire she had going was out, but parchments that she needed, where dripping wet, and vials that had priceless materials, were ruined and she, herself was drenched to the bone. Books, dripped and new and old parchments were soaked into the material, loosing their shape and tearing with loud popping as some small magic left them.

Michealle just turned and walked away from the room and went straight to her room, and slammed the door. The bang cuase some things to shift and or fall, but she was beyond caring at the moment. One thought dominated her head right now, "How long does it take to build the right fire pit to melt metal, and to keep it liquid?". Then she went to the bed and fell asleep.

A ripple. The fluxations caused from an event, that seep out and grow in ever widening degrees. Some can be calm, while others can be quite violent, depending on the circumstances that created the ripple.

In this case, it had been 5 small words.

But this particular ripple could have more than its normal share of events deriving from it. It started out well enough. The Gran Magister had propsed a toast, a most proper toast, for an proper event. The Dark Lady saw the Shadow call Voide, as he moved quickly, to make his way towards the Magister. The Magister began his toast:
"To the most beautiful Nocturne Mistress in Ur-Karpathos. A Joyous half-century celebration, and may your 100th be twice as Marvelous!" Without missing a beat, the Demon gave a smirk and a mock bow, then added:

"Assuming you live that long." He said it calmly, before drinking his entire glass of wine in an instant.

The pause within the room was deafening, enough to recall Al'terla from her previous 'task', as she felt a warmth around her. Her eyes flickered for a moment, chaging colors, as she looked upon the assembled group. The Vampiress called Lilith was quick to carry the torch from there, her voice rining clearly above the crowd:

"Oh my...." Lilith said "It seems you doubt Mistress Viudos' longevity, or is it that you doubt the Grand Magister's well wishes?" Lilith laughed, enjoying the moment. Of course she did. Another ripple to a increasing growing volitile pond. Intreage, was a constant within the higher ranks of the Nocturne. To the point of being deadly, even for a vampire. Lilith continued happily, as she seemed to relish the occasion to dangle the bait just a bit more. "Or...could this be your own way of challenging the good Mistress under her own house, even in the presence of Legends?" Lilith was gesturing now, to Mistress Viudos, The Grand Magister, The Dark Lady and Lord Vandranok? The Dark Lady mused at the title, but simply brought her goblet to her lips, gently blowing accross the surface, before she took a small sip. The Nocturne continued. "You certainly are a bold Shadow Demon to utter such words, but tell me, can you back them up?" another long pause, before she spoke again.

"Lord Vandranok, what is your judgement?" With that final utterance, Lilith gave Voide a long penetrating look as she stepped back and gestured once more, ceding the center of attention to the most powerful nocturne under Mistress Viudos' roof. Lord Vandranok.

An excellent performance indeed. With such a statement left to dangle in such an atmosphere, was like dangling an appitizer within a vipers nest. The one called Lilith had directed the end of her statement towards Lord Vandranok. Whether he would decided to involve himself or not, would be quite interesting. But the misstress of the house, Mistress Viudos would NOT let such an effront stand. Especially within the confines of her own home, and definatelly not with such patronage visiting. No, a response would be forthcomming. Whether it be direct, or perhaps later on, within the Mistress own terms perhaps, but it would come. What was more intersting to her, was how the Magistrate, within reach of all nearby at the moment, and his 'companion' would handle such manuevers. Oh, of course, she herself could interveine, but she felt no need at the moment. More than enough powerful figures within the room. And internal affair, best left to the Mistress of the house to handle. Other things were coming to a figurehead soon, and her attentions were best drawn to those. But she kept a keen eye upon the room, knowning full well, that things could become deadly within the next few moments where she stood, as well.

During all of the events, she had not moved, except to take a drink, as she had been monitoring several events. But now, she simply turned, to face the others directly. Her dress swept around her in a soft woosh o

Darkness was not as much locked in eternal combat and struggle with Light, as it was in some cosmic balance. Lord Vandranok found it curious that some looked upon such things as being at war. He knew that Light and Dark existed in common, that there was no true struggle between them. The struggle, if there was one to be identified, was between the self-titled servants of Darkness, and of Light.

So, too, it was that Order and Chaos were as one. The former simply could not be without the latter. They were not working against one another, for they were not living, breathing things, but rather ideas, or visible, recognisable states. Like the servants of Dark and Light, however, the servants of Order and of Chaos, were often misled, or driven to issue some desired challenge for dominance.

A short statement from the Shadow Demon Voide, at least in the eyes of Vandranok, was a simple expression of the creature's choice. The Demon served Chaos, and made no secret about it. That in itself was hardly any surprise, and Vandranok accepted it as part of the creature's nature, a quality defined some many lifetimes ago during the earlier eons of the cosmos.

That Vandranok's companion, Lilith, chose to acknowledge the implied challenge complicated matters somewhat. The Demon's comment had been considered, at least by her, as a threat to the longevity of the honoured Mistress Matahari Viudos. And, perhaps that was all it was, but it could have been so much more. As if to clarify herself, she questioned the Demon's intentions outright.

Her words were loud enough for all to hear, and soon filled the room with tension. Many within the room knew stories of Demons that killed, or otherwise became uncontrollably enraged for such an affront. No doubt Lilith believed herself capable enough to hold her own in the instance that the creature did not take kindly to her questioning tone. At least until the point of her asking for Lord Vandranok's judgement.

He preferred to observe until absolutely necessary. Alas, it was not to be. He was soon the centre of attention, right alongside Lilith and Voide. Was that a smile, or simply a curious expression of interest, he caught from the Dark Lady Al'terla? Vandranok knew not, but to know the audience was his. He certainly had no desire to disappoint.

"For one to challenge the life of another, on occasion such as this, is certainly a statement underscored with the highest disrespect and regard not only for ceremony, but Nocturne tradition," the Legendary Hunter began, first meeting the gaze of Voide, then turning slowly to cast his eyes about the room, before finally settling his sight upon the female at his side.

He did not make an effort to distinguish whether his words were intended for Voide, from whom the implied challenge was first suggested, or Lilith, who took the Demon's words for threat, likely or otherwise, direct or not. Instead, he encompassed them both in his measuring, and issued a warning of his own.

Vandranok's brow narrowed, his attention devoted to the celebration at hand. He was in no mood for infighting under the roof of an honoured host, especially while he was present as her guest. When he spoke, he did so with Nocturne charm. When he spoke a clear warning, he did so with supernatural ease, and such cunning to forestall even the armies of the Underworld.

"This night is one of celebration," he said slowly, his tone clear that he would not tolerate argument or debate of any kind. "Should any present wish to threaten or harm either the honoured, or one of her guests, then they best take their passions to heart and hold them there. Time will permit an opportunity for all such passions to find their release, but now is not the time, or the place, for such things." He gestured about him and raised his cup. "Let us drink blood this night, in celebration of our eternal undeath!"

He knew the Nocturne value for tra

    Near the dark woods

The moon was full tonight and Asyel had finally regained his vision. Before him was what seemed to be a forest but he couldn't see much within it. A deep fog rolled on the ground like some crawling shadow. For some reason he felt drawn to enter this place.

With each step the pull became stronger. Wolves howled to the moon and Asyel could here the hoots of howls. Though the air was cool and the trees swayed there was no wind blowing.

Entering the woods he made no sound and could feel the mist touch him and soon he realized this no mist it was lost souls. These gost wanted to take his warmth but none would be able to. They cung to him and covered him. Like moths drawn to a flame they came. He payed them little heed and continued to enter deeper into the dark woods.

In the night he could hear the soft sounds of darker beast roaming. Then he heard what seemed to be singing. Once more the pull grew stronger forcing him to go deeper in. The ground began to rise and snow could be seen on the ground. Yet it was only small amounts the air seemed almost like ice. The soreness in his limbs had almost vanished.

Climbing the terrian Asyel saw no living creatures here and a few times could have sworn the very trees seemed to grab at him.
Bones of many dead lay about like some ancient burial ground that couldn't hold the dead in there graves. Reaching the top of this hill Asyel was surprised to see a strange gate. In front of ithis dark gate stood a hooded being. Asyel stopped and looked at the creature before him but only saw the red cloak that it wore. "What lies behind these gates and where am I?" Asked Asyel who know waited for the creature to reply.

    Near the Haunted woods

Bones of many dead lay about like some ancient burial ground that couldn't hold the dead in their graves. Reaching the top of this hill Asyel was surprised to see a strange gate. In front of this dark gate stood a hooded being. Asyel stopped and looked at the creature before him but only saw the red cloak that it wore. "What lies behind these gates and where am I?" Asked Asyel who know waited for the creature to reply.

"Where are you indeed...?" the cloaked creature answered back with it's preternatural voice. It's face was completed hidden in the shadow of it's hood, but perhaps Asyel could feel it's wicked grin and piercing dark gaze. These were not seen, but rather felt.

"And what indeed lies behind these gates?"

The cloaked rustled as the creature fully turned to face Asyel.

"Could it be that you're already inside and this is but an exit...or is it the other way around?"

A sound like distant laughter could be heard somewhere in the background. It moved about, almost as if carried by the wind. But there was no wind at all.

The creature chuckled, regaining Asyel's attention.

"Gates are meant to both keep in and keep out. It all depends on the circumstances.....hehehe, but I can see that this is only adding to your confusion....hehehehehe, fostering even more questions. good.....good."

With one red robed hand the hooded creature gestured behind it.

"Past this point, you shall be upon the main road which traverses the Haunted Woods. It is not a place for the faint of heart or spirit. Many who believed themselves brave have travelled yonder, never to return."

The creature paused and chuckled lightly, but did not move from it's place.

"Should misfortune smile upon you and find you worthy to make it through the woods, the place the Barbaroi dare call home, and many nameless creatures as well...then you will come upon the black walls of the Dark City of Ur Karpathos, the City of Eternal Night. Be Forwarned however.....a power beyond your wildest imaginings is there, an irredimably Dark and incomprehensibly Terrible Power. Turn back now while you are still able and return to the comforts of a misery you can understand...."

A faint glow now could be seen inside the cloacked figure's hood. Redish points that could be seen as eyes glowed as it spoke.

"....or, proceed and you may yet find answers to a great many questions....and much, much more. The choice....is yours."

And with that, the creature began to laugh maniacally and as it threw up it's arm in the chilled night air, everything around it began to shimmer as it turned away, and then an object became visible in the moonlight.

The creature had a giant war axe stuck deep in it's back. Blood still seemed to flow from the awful wound it had sustained, and it was this same gushing wound that seemed to oversaturate it's robes. Perhaps this was the reason for it's garments red colouring.

As it collapsed to the floor and into the pervasive mist, the creature and it's axe seemed to simply vanish....and so did the gate and the sorrounding burial ground. It all shimmered away in the moonlight and vanished as if it never even existed, which could very well lead Asyel to wonder if any of it had really occured in the first place.

All that was left for him to see now was the forboding expanse of the Haunted Woods. It's oppresively dark and gnarled trees rose at each side of the main road. They seemed to be waiting patiently for him to pass. Perhaps not just him, per se, but any soul that would think itself brave enough to go through.

Behind Asyel lay his cave, his past and the unknown. Before him lay an equally unknown path, but now he had an idea as to what it could be, that is, if the creature was to believed at all.

So at least for now, Asyel stood on the fence of what was and what could be. He was either in or out, depending on his choice of action. One such action could be to remain exactly where he was and make no choice...

If the creature existed or not never mattered to him. He would no longer hold still. Walking forward he felt reborn in a ways but the air seemed thicker here then it was behind him.

Asyel would seek out this place called Ur Karpathos and he could care less about these so called Barbaroi. What ever he would endure and if death came for him then so be it.

If this place was not for the faint of heart or spirit. Then he wondered what it had in store for him a being who's heart was colder then snow. Asyel didn't believe himself to be brave but he did consider himself strong enough to endor near anything. If he never returned then that was fine as well.

At lest he was doing something and had a goal before him.

The Dark Lady Al'terla - Necrosgolgoth, Mistress Matahari Viudos Mansion

The Dark Lady held some interest in what words would be spoken next. That Lilith chose to acknowledge the implied challenge or threat did not bode well. But to invole Lord Vandaranok directly, was truly most unfortunate, a mistake she would most surely regret later. Wanting to invole yourself in something, was common for the Nocturne. To involve another however, especially one of higher rank, was an invintation to lose more than their very valued rank. He certainly had been placed into the center of attention, wanted or not. But he took the center stage, with a quiet calmness that bespoke highly of his self control.

"For one to challenge the life of another, on occasion such as this, is certainly a statement underscored with the highest disrespect and regard not only for ceremony, but Nocturne tradition," the Hunter began, first meeting the gaze of Voide, then turning slowly to cast his eyes about the room, before finally settling his sight upon the female at his side. The Dark Lady gave a slight nod of approval, for she saw that his words were direted not only towards the two, but to ANY within the walls of the room. His voice was clear, as one of his statue should be, as he continued. Vandranok's brow narrowed, his attention devoted to the celebration at hand. His words flowed smoothly, and she even felt a bit of Nocturne 'charm' to them, which easily flowed past her.

Ah, he had proposed another avenue. And woe to any who would brooke otherwise. With so many esteamed visitiors about, if a duel was to breech now, the results would be terrible indeed. She had wondered eariler what effect the Deamon's presence would have, and began to wonder if he had been sent. Not directly of course. Guided, would be a more correct term perhaps. She took a sip of her cup, stiring it with her finger for a moment, as if in thought. Memory drew her to another such event, well within the sands of the ancient past. That event, had ended with very few Nocturne standing, and even less of its other guests. Ah yes, that had been quite a party indeed. But then, that was during the earliest nights of the reign of Lord Blight. Before he made his displeasure of such things known. She mused as she thought of Vandranok. A great hunter, who knew the proper time and place for a hunt. And she was sure, the he would make his displeasure known to certain beings later. But not for now, no matter how warmed the thoughts of battle might be to him.

Nocturne 'magics' were tricky. Not as other spells cast, as theirs were drawn from a darker relm. If one did not know how to interweave a casting just right, many times the most unfortunate results were gained. Fortunately for her, she knew how the schematics of such things were woven. But for now, she simply smiled. She took a step forward, holding her goblet out in front of her.

"Indeed, this night has been most festive, and I perfer to indure the celebration with the entertainment already provided." She stated as she moved over to stand next to Lord Vandranok. A simple gesture of her hand, as if brushing aside the tensions of the room, removing the deadly atmosphere within. If she could see the servants faces, they were probably holding their breaths. She turned towards Lord Vandranok. "I do believe you proposed a toast?" she stated, as she held up her goblet. Once the proposed toast was done, The Dark Lady gave a slighly darkened grin. Lowering her goblet, she nod

After waking up and getting dressed, she exited her bedroom and went to the small kitchen. "I feel better, now I need a new human servant, to clean my messes." Then she cut a large chunk of bread and toasted the bread lightly, with magic. "I have to find someone who I can trust completely to do my bidding."

After one hour, she grabbed her other cloak, that had snakes running up the edges of it. She called it her Charmer Snake cloak, and exited the house. That store keeper was useful on information, and she was going to try to pick his brain some more.

This time she took her time, and looked at everything. The houses were larger and better built than hers, and the decor, was just buetiful. It made her sad, that she was very low on the totem pole, but....things will soon change. A knowing smile crept across her face. "Some day, Lolth, will praise me, a human. Not one of her dear Drow. That day is in the making.

She admired the god Lolth, and her powers. But she also understood, that if she failed, she will not get any eternal sleep. Since the day her master told her to do a study on the Drow, she became to love the Queen Mothers, and their powers, and their God. The armies of the Drow, was unmatched to sword play and magic, and she wanted it all. She stopped in the middle of the road, and thought, "Maybe he was right, my down fall will be the greatest thing to ever happen." Then she burst out laughing. "Unfortunatly, master. You fell first. I will becarful of my powers, and use them right." Then she continued to walk, and smiled all the way to the shop keepers door.

The day was just great, other than her spell making room becoming toast. If nothing makes her madder, than her attitude will become more better. She walked with a down cast expression, and a cruel look on her face. Making a mental note openly, "I need to get back to the upper world and get me a new servent, but how?"

She continued to walk, but turned left instead of right, that went towards the Magic Shop. She was almost compelled, but not completely. She just wanted to walk a little longer, and cool off. She knew that the shop keeper was looking at her with hungry eyes, and did not want to deal with him right now. Her cloak she wore, was warm against the nip in the air, but it felt refreshing to have it. It was her first one she ever cast a spell on, and exceeded to make it do something other than float away.

Houses passed by slowly and some people came out to look, and watch. Some had fear, others had hate, some could not make up their minds if they should run and or stand still. Though, she took no notice of it. Though for a prank, she cast a very minor catnips trick. She made a large hay stack start moving from the inside, making some scurry like mice. Michealle smiled and continued to walk on.

    Michaelle Sow

Ur-Karpathos, The Dark City, Old Residential Quarter

Some folks gave way to Michaelle, but not all. After she'd passed, another darkly robed figure walked up the path she tread upon.

"Turn around and face me magiker, let us have ourselves a test of art and see who is the greater. Refuse me at your peril."

The arrogant and commanding voice belonged to a youngman, a weilder of art. His hair was long and dark as his skin was pale, but not like that of a Nocturne. His eyes were also dark and deeply set. He wore a dark robe, with inscripted runes and words of magic. The hand he used to gesture was adorned with trinkets, such as rings and bangles.

The rest of him was concealed by his flowing dark cloack. Though something did glint under the folds.

    "I, Mournshade, challenges you..."

The words were spoken with authority, and to great effect.

Many who just stood by quickly moved away, giving space to the two would be combatants. The braver folks, though, managed to find some cover. They wanted to see what would happen next.

The back road they were in was not too narrow nor too wide. It was just enough to make such an encounter interesting.

Mournshade stood his ground and merely grinned at the mageling female as he waited to see what she would do.
