As many of you may or may not know, we have a website at http://www.rochesterfanforce.com. For the longest time it has just redirected folks right to our forums. I felt for new visitors that was just like bringing them to a half opened book. So I threw together a real quick "cover" for our book - and I mean real quick. After the premiere, we'll go back and snaz it up a bunch, but for now I thought it was better for new visitors to see some basic information to start off with instead of the dozens of different conversations.

Of course, I just discovered the downside to doing it this way...

The server always tends to go down when KS is not around to fix it. So at the moment no one can get to our website until KS gets home from NYC to fix the server.

Good News is you can still get to the forms via the force.net

Tried tossing up a quick background, but since our logo graphic isn't translucent it looks pretty dorky. Unforuntately, I don't have the time to revamp our logo at the moment (I still have over 50 photos to email/snail mail out to people from the Tinseltown premiere...) so it'll have to stay the way it is for now. Anyone else have any thoughts about what we should have up on our website?

Eventually I would have like to add to the page a "who we are" type blurb and maybe some group photos.

Nice start for the website. As more events take place, I assume that'll be spruced up. But regardless, good work. :)

    Oh - that reminds me...
Note to self: add section about past events with links to each photo album in the gallery.

Still - still have to work on the past events section...
Although at this rate, I think if I get that done before 2006 I'll be shocked! :p
At least the photo galleries for our past events are linked so people can still see what we've done...

I've added a new album to our gallery that contains scans of our "appearances" in print. It only has a few in there so far, but as I get the time to scan more I'll add them in there.

Here's a link to The Rebellion In the News...

    That's neat!
Thanks for posting that T - I would've never seen that.

EDIT: My mother-in-law just called to let me know that this same article is in this week's print version as well so I'll have to pick up a few copies while grocery shopping tonight. :D

Updated the events listing on www.rochesterfanforce.com and added a banner ad for North Ridge on there too.

Finally got to take a couple minutes and updated the calendar listing on our website.

Also, Ryan "Jedi_Agent" Jones has asked us if we'd like to take over the domain that he's been funding for us all this time (www.rochesterfanforce.com), so I'm going to have KS work on arranging that with him. Of course, this would be another expense that we'd need to fundraise for, but it makes no sense to have Ryan continue funding it.

Might be a good meeting topic at the next meeting...

We can talk about it some at VGTS and again at the April meeting, but I think it would be good to hold on to the domain.

This is probably one of the many items that will need to be turned over...

It was decided at our previous meeting that due to extremely low traffic on the Rebellion website, we're going to close it down.
This will save Ryan Jones and our members money that can be used for other purposes.
I'd like to thank Ryan Jones (JediAgent) for being such a good sport and hosting the site all these years.
Ryan, you are one of the founders of 'The Rebellion' and have been a good friend for all these years.

RochesterFanForce.com is the only website that comes up when you search for Rochester on galacticbinder.com though... :-B

I'm not sure why you think this topic is a dead horse...

www.rochesterfanforce.com comes way before a link for these FanForce boards on a google search for "Rochester and Star Wars" by at least 9 entries.

The rochesterfanforce.com site has been what we've used on all our fliers and business cards to promote this group for the past 3-4 years.

If you want me to get information on traffic to the site I probably can, but since I can't get stats on traffic to these forums as a comparison, I'm not sure that it would do much good.

Unfortuntely, it was the concensus that no one was willing to pay for this, not that it was unneccessary to the promotion of our club.
I disagree with the decision to close down rochesterfanforce.com, but since I don't have the money to pay for it either - I can't put money where my mouth is.

This topic needs to remain active to decide what alternatives we're going to use for online promotion. We will now be forced to re-do our fliers and any other promotional materials we have (like t-shirts, links on other websites, business cards, any other signage, our vinyl banner, the version of our logo that includes the website, etc).

Personally I'd rather fundraise the money to keep rochesterfanforce.com then have to re-do all those other things. :(
