Hi all. It's been ages since I checked in. Hope everyone is well.

I hope everyone has a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

And on that note..... a poem. It's been awhile so here another from my favourite A.B. 'Banjo' Patterson, written around 1900-ish.

It's not exactly Christmas.... but it IS about a christening... so close enough I reckon.

    A Bush Christening

On the outer Barcoo where the churches are few,
And men of religion are scanty,
On a road never cross'd 'cept by folk that are lost,
One Michael Magee had a shanty.

Now this Mike was the dad of a ten year old lad,
    Plump, healthy, and stoutly conditioned;
He was strong as the best, but poor Mike had no rest
For the youngster had never been christened.

And his wife used to cry, `If the darlin' should die
Saint Peter would not recognise him.'
But by luck he survived till a preacher arrived,
Who agreed straightaway to baptise him.

Now the artful young rogue, while they held their collogue,
With his ear to the keyhole was listenin',
And he muttered in fright, while his features turned white,
`What the divil and all is this christenin'?'

He was none of your dolts, he had seen them brand colts,
And it seemed to his small understanding,
If the man in the frock made him one of the flock,
It must mean something very like branding.

So away with a rush he set off for the bush,
While the tears in his eyelids they glistened --
`'Tis outrageous,' says he, `to brand youngsters like me,
I'll be dashed if I'll stop to be christened!'

Like a young native dog he ran into a log,
And his father with language uncivil,
Never heeding the `praste' cried aloud in his haste,
`Come out and be christened, you divil!'

But he lay there as snug as a bug in a rug,
And his parents in vain might reprove him,
Till his reverence spoke (he was fond of a joke)
`I've a notion,' says he, `that'll move him.'

    `Poke a stick up the log, give the spalpeen a prog;
Poke him aisy -- don't hurt him or maim him,
'Tis not long that he'll stand, I've the water at hand,
As he rushes out this end I'll name him.

`Here he comes, and for shame! ye've forgotten the name --
Is it Patsy or Michael or Dinnis?'
Here the youngster ran out, and the priest gave a shout --
`Take your chance, anyhow, wid `Maginnis'!'

As the howling young cub ran away to the scrub
Where he knew that pursuit would be risky,
The priest, as he fled, flung a flask at his head
    That was labelled `MAGINNIS'S WHISKY'!

And Maginnis Magee has been made a J.P.,
And the one thing he hates more than sin is
To be asked by the folk, who have heard of the joke,
How he came to be christened `Maginnis'!

I saw today on Facebook that Jai is back in the hospital. Something about his pancreatic enzymes are messed up.

When I saw his pic with electrodes on his chest I just thought he was working on another costume!

    Hope he's felling better soon.

Well, we're moved but still have some loose things like house plants at the old place, but we slept in the new home for the first time last night. Lots of noises we're not used to, like the cats chasing each other upstairs above our head...

Now that icepocalypse is melting, I'm ready for frakking spring because this weather is killing me.

Gray, dark, dull, rain. Gray, dark, dull, rain. Gray, dark, dull, rain. Snow and ice. Gray, dark, dull, rain. [face_frustrated]

C'mon now, Memphis weather, what the hell happened to short sleeves in February? Seriously. [face_plain]

Also, who's up for an SMT get together mid-March at our place? We can do trivial pursuit, watch the movies if anyone's game, or just hang out. Hopefully, by then I'll be unpacked totally and the weather will be better.

We came home tonight to find Le Le, our oldest female cat, dead under our dining room table. I feel like I have a huge hole in my heart where she used to be. She was with me for 11 years, at some times she and Bandon were there when no one else was. :( Everyone hug your kitties extra hard tonight for Le Le.

Oh, Rhonda, I am so sorry! :( I will always have fond memories of Le Le sleeping in my hair at your old apartment at some of our earliest FF meetings. She was a sweet kitty and will be missed. [:D]

I'm so sorry about Le Le, Rhonda. She was such a sweet kitty, and quite a character.

It's a bad week for pets around here. We just had Cade put to sleep a little while ago. He had Feline Infectious Peritonitis and got to the point where he couldn't move. I'm gonna miss the little fella. And it just doesn't feel right to have a Jariah without a Cade.

Wow, I'm so sorry guys. :( I've never had to have a pet put to sleep, so I can only guess how hard it would be. He had a home for a while, and I'll bet he really appreciated that. Hopefully, he and Le Le are together. :(

A few months ago we had to get our dog of 14 years put down.

Didn't really affect me then. It's the months later when you're STILL stepping over him as you walk out the back door, because he always used to sleep across the doorway. Or you forget he's gone and wait for him to lean on you whenever you stand still outside.

Tucker was a damn fine dog.

I'm so sorry about your dog, JD. This year hasn't been kind to our four-legged companions.

I was quoted in today's Commercial Appeal regarding the brouhaha surrounding the replacement of the mascot at Ole Miss. Someone had to represent the Star Wars point of view.

I'm sorry about all y'all's furry friends. I never commented on FB because I'm not qualified. I haven't had any pets apart from fish since I was ten. I always imagined I would get a dog as soon as I had my own place with a yard, but I haven't yet and I'm going on five years with a yard...

I had to put my Harris Hawk down a few years ago. :(

    http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll19/Wonderpants_UK/Terzo.jpg

That's actually the one I got after him, but you get the idea. Most birds of prey are as thick as two short planks, but Harrises are known for their intelligence, and this one was particularly switched on, especially compared to my dad's. He'd grab her food given the slightest chance, and she'd just sit there like she didn't know what was going on.

    And continuing the downbeat note:

Yeah, Siobhan's death really got me down this weekend. She was so young. :( She was a hoot in JCC, and a really lovely person. She'll be missed. @};-
