I'm trying to think of any phrases, gestures, etc. from the OT that could be thought of as particularly late 70s/early 80s...can anyone think of any?

Edit: we should talk more about the moral Usage of swearing in the saga it really makes this thread move.

 

BTW, I was wondering about something. Are there any younger posters here who have no idea what Tarzan's call sounds like?

 

I'd think if not the old Tarzan movies, the younger users here would at least be familiar with the Disney movie's Tarzan yell (which, btw, was done by Brian Blessed [voice of Boss Nass!] even though Tarzan was voiced by Tony Jay)

 

the cleanest Canon Star Wars content is actually Star Wars Rebels now that I think about it.

 

oh i can see why a lot of ppl hated threepio's line (I range from not minding it to enjoying it depending on my mood)...but it didn't seem contemporary to me but i could be wrong.

what 70s/80s stuff does Han say? i'm thinking of 70s stuff like "far out" etc...

 

Yeah, I was wondering if that was a film lots of kids saw. I thought it only did okay at the box office, but again, I don't know what the viewing habits were for young people when most of you guys were kids. Maybe most kids caught it on TV.

 

Rebels is kid-friendly to the point of being a bit annoying, honestly. It could do with a bit more violence

If AOTC can get away with on screen, unobscured decapitation and have a PG rating, Rebels could do more than have the majority of its action scenes be "lethal dodging" or just punching out stormtroopers

 

- Jar Jar says mooey mooey after Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon rescue him, "oh mooey mooey, I love you." He says "icky icky goo" after he steps in dung on Tatooine. He might say moolah some time later on Tatooine (maybe to Qui-Gon about the Naboo cruiser repair?).

- The Tarzan call is alright. I don't love it; don't hate it. It's a fine movie allusion I guess. Sort of funny. Kinda dorky. Like SW in general.

- I like the earth-isms the podrace announcers introduce. I really, really like the podrace announcers as a concept, and I like the off-beat Americanisms the one announcer speaking Basic uses. It goes well with the race and the setting.

- Hell, and its permutations, "go to hell" and "what the hell" don't bother me in the least. They're rude, but not that vulgar. It doesn't necessarily imply Christianity in the GFFA either, although there are borrowings from certain Christian allegories in SW mythology. The old canon explanation was that "hell" was the term in Corellian mythology for Chaos, or the ~bad~ afterlife Sith go to after they die and become one with the Cosmic Force. Also, you guys are forgetting, Uncle Owen says "hell" too: "he better have those droids in the south range by midday or there'll be hell to pay."

 

They did show Ezra mind tricking a stormtrooper into killing himself. That seems pretty dark.

I saw the Disney Tarzan cartoon in theaters! I remember that day! I remember it better than the day I saw TPM, but I was the same age. Dang, I was young.

 

Speaking of Disney Renaissance era movies, seeing that clip reminds me of how much I preferred Ezra's old design where he looked like Aladdin

And while I'm thinking about it, enjoy this gif that probably required zero skill in video editing. It's a classic

 

Wow, that is pretty dark. I'm actually surprised. It's less a mind trick and more Jedi mind control. And the music is pretty chilling too. And that look in Ezra's eyes... "when did Kanan teach you that?" "He didn't..."

Also, is that a Tri-force on the AT-DP pilot's helmet?

 

Zeb calling him a loth rat really was the cherry on top for that whole look

 

They also had those two imperials decapitated in Rebels. Though not directly shown. I think its mostly to do with the network its on.

Can't stand Rebels. It's laughable at how kiddie some things are.. Like the one ep when the Deathtroopers get taken out like total punks.. I was disgusted.

 

Well at least Saw is still a ***** in that show.

 

Tbh I won't miss the show. I'll be happy to see it end..

 

It says a lot that my favourite Rebels moments are either when movie characters have something to do or when TCW characters have a big role
