The Romance Of The Three Kingdoms



A great battle between the Emperor of the Han dynasty and the leader of the Yellow Turban rebels broke China into many factions lead by a great difference of Warlords, all with different plans for their future. Many allied only to betray, to gain as much land, power and wealth as possible in these harsh settings. Time swept on, and a vast amount of battles left China in the hands of three empires: Wei, Wu and Shu.

The story begins with the Warlords: Cao Cao, Sun Jian and Liu Bei and their devoted Strategists. War has not begun, but is on the horizon. You create Generals under the aforementioned Warlords, with a body of troops in your control. You choose your destiny: betrayal, love or pure faith to your leader, whatever you want.

= Cao Cao (Wei)- Sadistic, power hungry, evil, deceitful. Wei are after control of the land and will not stop for any cause to gain it.
= Sun Jian (Wu)- Mysterious, superior, charming, strong. Wu are the Sun family, competing for control of China for the sake of family.
= Liu Bei (Shu)- Charitable, friendly, righteous. Shu oppose Wei, and fight to regain peace and end war throughout China.

It would be advised to follow these traits in your CS if you want to be in that faction.

PressRedForFreakMode will be the main GM for this game however I will act as Assisstant-GM.

If you wish to introduce another faction or empire, please PM me about it and we can come to conclusions.

Sorry about the confusion of posting. I thought I was posting the introduction, but apparently Charisma was aswell...? And she has quicker fingers than me. Thankfully i check all pages before i post anything so you didn't have it twice!!!!!

Bio- Cao Cao was born and raised with a wealthy family, and grew up getting his own, maturing to be spoilt and selfish. He followed in his fathers footsteps, and began training for war, and due to his great ambition and persistance, he grew an army, now known as Wei. Other power hungry warriors have joined Cao Cao's forces in the bid for domination of China.

Bio- Sun Jian thinks of himself as being higher than others. He believes he superiority will gain him China. Although he doesn't want control over China for reasons of wealth or fame, he meerly wants a humble ground for his family. Many warriors have joined him to purely live in conditions without war. Sun Jian's family fight alongside him. If the option of war was there, he wouldn't think twice about taking it.

Bio- Liu Bei grew up in the Chinese countryside, only becoming an officer due to his father, who had a miniscule army near the capital. Liu Bei was his fathers successor, claiming his land and army. Many alliances were formed and broken but Liu Bei gained the trust of those not interested in living with war. He fights for peace in the future, settling the lives of the innocent.



I have adapted the characters slightly, as you all can.

 

Could I be Lu Bu(The legendary Warrior)? or Guan Yu(The Warrior with no equal)? One of the two legendary warriors?

Personality/Mannerisms- She is quite cunning. She is nice only when it is benificial to be nice. Some would say she is cold but really the truth is she hardly ever feels it is benificial to show emotion.
Weapon- She is most proficiant in archery, though she also carries a long knife hidden in her Obi.
Bio- Maya came to China from Japan to see the great kingdom for herself. In Japan she was the daughter of a great lord and thus arrived in China with a relativly large escort. She made her home in the Wu province but in no way holds any loyalty to them. A lover of art she sees the good in all things, saying they are beautiful in their own way, however she does hope for the violence to stop and will do what she can at any cost.

 

I have a few questions:

1. Is this going to be based more off the novel or the video game? If someone's only familiar with one, but not the other, would that be a problem?

2. How much background knowledge is required on that era of Chinese history? I mean, obviously, no one should be referring to trains or radios or guns or that sort of thing, but on the other hand, would you critticize someone for having slightly period inappropriate dress or weaponry (Ex "That type of spear/tunic/boot wasn't used until 80 years after the timeframe of this RPG!")

3. Is the focus of the game more on politics/intrigue (court politics between generals and kingdoms with lots of emissaries going back and forth), tactics (role-playing the command of large units/armies in battle), or battles (we're the players character is actually in combat)? Or is it supposed to be some mix of the three?

I'm very strongly considering joining, but I'm just a fan of the Koei series that has read a smattering of the course material, and am not terribly familiar with Chinese history otherwise. And I didn't want to drag something great like this down.

-Other- When in armour Chen wears a dark green breast/back plate, shoulder guards, bracers on his wrists and shin guards.
Personality/Mannerisms Chen Liu has a deep sense of personal honour, and morality, impressed into him from an early age by his former master. once he gives his word he is totally loyal to it. He has displayed a fearlessness bordering on recklessness on several occasions and is ever willing to leap into a fight.(See ?=== Empires ===?)-
Weapon- chinese straight sword
Bio- Chen Liu was born into a mid level noble family who were widely respected as warriors and generals in the old emperors armies. Chen was raised in this mold, to hold his honour no matter what and to hold death in contempt. Since a child he has been trained in several martial arts including archery, horsemanship and in spear and sword. Chen however shows a true affinity for his sword, a ancestral blade of his family known as the "Phoenix claw". With the coming troubles Chen could see that Liu Bei was the countries only hope for real peace and has pledged his blade and life to his cause.

Well it's more based off Dynasty Warriors series. However we are only basing it off that and thus it won't be needed to know really anything about it. The rest of the game will not go the way the books or the video games did.

Only a basic knowlege is needed. You do not need to be exact. We arn't making a historical reference book, it's a game and does not need to be acurate.

Is the focus of the game more on politics/intrigue (court politics between generals and kingdoms with lots of emissaries going back and forth), tactics (role-playing the command of large units/armies in battle), or battles (we're the players character is actually in combat)? Or is it supposed to be some mix of the three?

I guess it's kind of a mix of all three. There will be times in between the battles where there could be politics or just "relaxing". However when there is a battle you will lead your section of the army, giving commands and tactics but also attacking with your unit.

Weapon- 'Blue Dragon Crescent Blade' (weapon is a Guandao)
Bio-
REAL:Guan Yu was the sworn brother of Liu Bei and Zhang Fei. Five years before the Yellow Turban Rebellion, he slew a wealthy bully and was a fugitive up until he met Liu Bei. Sometime after the Yellow Turbans, Guan Yu and Liu Bei's wives were captured by Cao Cao, and Guan Yu surrendered to Cao Cao, even fighting with him against Yuan Shao. After repaying Cao Cao for sparing his life, Guan Yu traveled a very long distance with Liu Bei's wives to bring them home safely. Later, Guan Yu spared Cao Cao's life at Chi Bi, but was killed with his son Guan Ping when captured at Maicheng.

Name: Li Fei
Age: 26
Allegiance: Wu

Build: Stands at a moderate height. He is lithe and lean, generally more muscular than he first appears.

Clothing: Fei tends to wear a traditional light orange Chinese Hanfu (the Chinese equivalent of the kimono). In battle he wears a helmet, breastplate, greaves, and bracers, all of which are crimson.

Hair: His hair extends partway down his neck. While sometimes knotted into a short ponytail, he more often lets it hang free.

Weapon: Fei favors the use of a spear. He favors an overhead style that allows for rapid, accurate thrusts. He is also proficient with the straight sword, which he uses when a spear will not suffice.

Personality: Fei is deeply amibitious and concerned with the honor of his family. Due to his young age, he can tend to be naïve or overly-idealistic at times. Though he is skilled in battle, he does not actually enjoy it. He is much more the scholar at heart, preferring poetry and famous historical treatises to the madness of the battlefield.

Bio: Fei?s father had strong ambitions for his son, pouring all his resources into the boy in the hopes that their family?s status might be advanced. Already a gifted child, Fei excelled in this nurturing atmosphere and distinguished himself. Soon after receiving a junior administrative position within the local prefecture, however, the country began to destabilize. Bandits and free companies roamed the countryside with impunity. With ever more of his administrative duties focusing on defense and security, Fei was forced to take up the martial arts.

Despite a valiant effort, he was eventually overwhelmed. He pledged vassalage to the local warlord Sun Jian in exchange for security. Since that time, he has continued to excel in battle and become a more experienced officer. However, he longs for a return to peace, when he can again pursue a career as a civilian administrator.

 

Notice

I'm after a few more charcters, preferably Strategists for the Leaders. If no one wants to be one, however, I will control them as NPCs, as what might happen, but only if need-be. If you want a character I'm controlling as an NPC for your own, then that is fine.

I'm thinking of opening this tomorrow or tuesday.

-Facial Features- A scar through his left eye and one one his left cheek.

Personality/Mannerisms (See ?=== Empires ===?)- Ryu tends to be a kind person who doesn't enjoy fighting, however once he begins fighting he does not hold back. He is comepletely incabable of harming or allowing harm females.

Weapon- He uses his hands and feet under most circumstances usually but when that is not enough he uses a bo staff.

Bio- Shugojinu Ry was born in Japan, but his family soon took a trip to China. While traveling in the mountains he was separated from his family and was taken in by a farming family for a short time. They were too poor to feed another mouth and so he was taken to a monestary and raised among monks who taught him to defend himself. At fifteen they told him that he had learned all he could from them and he left his home. Since then he has traveld around China and has decided to fight for Liu Bei because he believes Liu Bei will be the best ruler for the country.

OOC: how could we play if most of everyone joins Shu?

 

OOC: I was actually wondering that as well. Would to be easier for the GMs if switched around our allegiances. Either I could join Wei, or the two of us could join Shu and leave Wei and Wu as essentially NPC Kingdoms, while we play mostly from one perspective. Because I'd hate to see you have to make up a huge in-depth story for one kingdom, when really only one person is involved.

Let me know what you'd like me to do. Given my character's history, it doesn't really matter what Kingomd he starts in.

 

OOC: Well, let's just wait for a moment to see if more will join us. If nobody joins us and the game is about to start, then maybe we should really change our allegiance (and I have to make a new character). By the way, GM, do you have anything to say about this problem?

Together with Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, and Huang Zhong, they were known as The Five Tiger Generals. Zhao Yun himself was known as The Dragon of Chang Shan.

I am interested in playing, and don't really care what kingdom I am in. I will PM RED to see where he wants me. Unfortunatly, I don't know how much internet access I will have this weekend. I will work up a CS as soon as I can, but it would be fine if you guys started without me.

 

Urg, sorry that was my fault. I havn't really been with it ther past few days cause i have a dreadful cold! Umm, EmoJawa, would it be possible for you to switch to Shu?

 

Sure that would be fine.. but woul you need me to remake my CS at all? or just make last minute changes?
