Let's put all the complaints in this thread only to avoid hijacking of other threads.....

I saw the movie and really have great things to say and bad things to say, mostly to do with how they change the subject of the Force. I have to watch it one more time to fully let everything sink in, its a long film. I haven't seen any reviews yet or read any of them, but I bet anything ppl will be upset with the Finn subplot stuff, I felt it slowed the movie down a lot.

Just came from a midnight show in Australia, feelings bit flat from it. The beefs are

    - Rose & Finn. Awful duo. Rose is as bad of character I have watched in a Star Wars movie, like a character out of Pitch Perfect. Finn has also became a burden to the Canon.

    - Some very definite Disney feeling banta fodder in there

    - "Batman '66" style failed kill attempts by the resistance. Be it killing them the "slow way" or miraculous escapes from certain death (especially Rose & Finn). Will never understand why writers go down that path

    - Zero insight into Snoke. He is the evil of all evils with no explanation... and then he is dead.

    - too many Cheap attempts at humour. Movie literally starts off with an awful gag by Poe to Hux pretending he can't hear him & just follows that style of humour right through. If your going to be funny, be clever about it.

    - Hate to say it, but Leia's character has become literally a piece of remembrance. No real connection to her previous self. Same with C3P0. Why is he even there anymore? Totally needless

    - Princess Leia's, Space Jesus meets Mary Poppins survival.

    - Maz Kanata needlessly put in for a guest conversation while fighting some random union battle.

    - Finn about to sacrifice himself for the resistance, just for Rose to sacrifice herself to save Finn from sacrificing himself that all ends in no one sacrificing themselves and them just magically escaping capture or death

    - Luke tried to kill his nephew in his sleep for thinking bad thoughts.

    - The pointless "find a shield - cracker" side story that ultimately achieves nothing with no side effects

    - Luke just dies on his own, sitting on a rock.

    - BB8 is just over powered and the go to "get out of any jail free" card for numerous battles. He literally can fix any problem a writer can't solve, it appears.

    - The movie has very odd timing and never really works, except for you can always count that the good guys have JUST enough time to do whatever it may be they currently need to do. Is Rei on the island with Luke a few days or a few months? What is the supposed time frame between Rose & Finn sneaking off to find a hacker and then sneak onto FO ship?

Its not all bad, but a lot of it is. The Rey / Kylo relationship is really great & the showdown with Snoke is very good. I actually was hoping they both would join forces and either fight for one side or the other - good, bad or something which is neither , i wouldn't care, the movie just was more interesting when they were curious and drawn to each other.

I also like it when the narrative takes us in a direction which reflects against the very real going ons and problems of our current times. For a moment I thought it was going to provide a really telling metaphor against the worlds current obsession with the constant "2 political party" & the blind following of religion that no one really has read the original text of which binds the laws of what we all believe to be right, wrong or important due to ritual or tradition. It took the movie in a intelligent direction, but it ultimately retreated from that and it missed its chance to be something special and unique because of it.

I mean, they're far too numerous to write them all down, but one little minor detail annoyed me right away: The island planet having an identical twin sunset to Tatooine's. What a coincidence. Just so they could shoehorn in that needless reference.

Pretty much agree with all your bullet points there.

*It’s a very weirdly paced film with bizarre coup by Poe against Holdo who is just pretty much made to look the fool in the next scene after Leia stuns him . I didn’t see the point, except to show him as a hothead maybe? I was lost.

*BB-8 piloting am AT-ST was a facepalm moment. This seems to be the Dinsey mantra. Anything GL can do, we can do better.

*The first 10 mins with Hux and Poe was like something out of Blackadder, which is fine if its Blackadder. And those imperials are straight from the BBC Docor Who minor villains school of acting. Awful. Can’t belive as good an actor s Domnhall Gleeson is, he’s abysmal as Hux

The script is horrible and fails to meet the SW feeling about stories you have to think about for years to understand its deeper meaning. I am sorry for the whole stuff involved who really gave it's best.
It was a matter of time that some one comes and marvelizes SW. RJ did it. May the force not be with him.

I have many complaints, but the main one can, I think, be summarised as me finding the tone of the film totally off.

After a good enough start I suddenly realised I was not on the same wavelength as the film. Disconnected emotionally. I felt like I was floating in space but, unlike Leia, I was unfortunately unable to pull myself back. And believe me, I tried.

i've seen the movie today and oh god, there is so much that doesn't work for me. SO SO MUCH.

Finn and rose... Useless. Not even funny. Oh and the stable boy who already know how to use the force at the end. Rey 2.0

Rey has only one character developpement it's about her parents... She just had two lessons of training and she as yoda said, knows everything already....

Snoke useless.... Without an explanation of who he is, what he wants... NOTHING.

The force . Now with the force you can have communication directely in front of each other even if you are planets away and you can even touch!!!! you don't need to be trained anymore, even the stable boy can you use the force easily. Training is outdate.

Leia paying her hommage to superman in Batman v superman while she is throwing in the space...

Holdo, she says hi! and them she says " goodbye "

The resistance crusader that the FO can 't catch up because he is faster....

    Phama says hi, then goodbye.

BB8 The most useful droid of the galaxy... C3po and r2d2 being outdate hi and goodbye.

B99 the evil bb8 counter part.... just there to sell toys.

Luke death, he evaporates... Luke trying to kill his nephew who even younger looks like a 30 years old guy

Benicio del toro who just was here to get a paycheck.

Hux what a cliché with bad jokes at his expense.

Kylo ren showing his torso to a shy rey.

Finn 's speeder going alone toward the Fo on crait , and they don't shoot at him. Rose crashing Finn lol and then they can come back at the resistance base and the FO army is still ignoring them lol.

No light saber duel . there was no two lightsabers clashing against each other in that movie!

and there are more but i 'll stop here.

I need to see it again but off the top of my head I didn’t like the opening exchange between Poe and Hux. Especially given the circumstances. There were a few places where the humor was not necessary.

I also felt the pacing was slightly off the first half, like we were rushing a little.

As someone who didn’t like Snoke at all in TFA i LOVED him in this which is why I was so disappointed in his demise. The actual scenes and all are fantastic but by then I was genuinely intrigued and wanted more of him. He was a good villain.

I loved the film though. There’s probably more o could nitpick. Maybe after a second viewing.

Disclaimer: I like the film, but parts of it dissappointed or confused me.

    - Snoke was just killed / tossed aside just when he was starting to get more interesting. What a waste!
    - "Rey Random" was probably the worst way to handle her parentage. Rey Kenobi or Rey Palpatine had so much more emotional and dramatic potential.
    - DJ character was stupid, and his stutter was stupid.
    - Luke dying seemed unnecessarily. Carrie Fisher just passed away so Leia wont be around in 9, did we need to kill off Luke?
    - The "Finn and Rose save the poor animals" scenes and sentiment felt silly, and like it belongs in another movie.
    - The "Fin and Rose inspire the children / slaves" scene felt, again, like it belongs in another movie.
    - The whole 'rebellion is sitting ducks floating through space just outside our weapons range' narrative I think was lame overall.
    - I think Leia shouldve got a proper inmovie sendoff.

I thought the sub-plot with the tracking-hyper-space-problem was extremely off: first they make up some crazy idea of in the middle of a battle fly off to a casino (!) to get a computer-hacker - which for no reason or payment should be willing to risk his life - and then infiltrate this super-super-Star Destroyer and hack the computer to disable the tracking device. Maybe. And the whole thing ends with that it actually leads to nothing.

It was a very Star Trek plot point. And it felt a little lame / out of place being used here. Reminded me of the Star Trek movie trans-warp beaming story point, how scotty managed to beam ppl aboard the ship when it was travelling in warp speed.

Im counting down all the flaws of the movie still but i can point at the few core problems movie has right now:
    1)Weak foundation (premise of the whole trilogy);
2)Fragmented story of the trilogy, its not complex. Instead of building upon the solid foundation the TLJ crushes down the whole TFA under the weight of own ideas.
3)No time skip between TFA and TLJ.

Thats the core of all the problems movie has. They could automatically fix many problems fixing these three.

Valid stuff, but how can you complain about Leia not getting a proper sendoff. When the film completed production 6 months before she died.

No real complaints, but a couple quibbles....

    1) Not enough X-Wing 's! I love space fight stuff, and we got some great Poe action, and glimpse of Tallie, but nothing else really. Boo.
    2) How did Rey get off the Supremacy and onto the Falcon. Did I misss something?
    3) Leia survived in a vacuum for a long time....
    4) I don't really have a problem with Luke's fate (so long as they do something meaningful with it), but it's clear to me why it had to happen. Impress me JJ.
    5) C'mon... give us some more FO starfighters. I love the classic TIE's but give us some more variety.

too many to count, but here we go:

Luke trying to kill his nephew in his sleep after fearing he goes dark....this is still the Luke who went against all advices of his teachers and saved his father
    Luke never leaving Ach-to
    Yoda lecturing Jedi master Luke
Leia flying in space (what is this...ähm Disney)
Rey turning from a relatable to an unsympathetic character
Finn being a complete waste and terible comedic relief
Rey still not trained, but knowing everything like a grand-master
    Snoke was a total waste
Snoke's throne room looking like a horrible and almost unfinished design
Hux becoming a terrible parody character
    Kylo shirtless
Terrible pep talk taking on my nerves 'spark for whatever'
too many briefing and spaceship discussions
Finn & Rose mission seemed to be tacked on to give Finn something to do
Too much Rogue One like realistic battle, which the magic, lightsaber and force stuff lacked

    and so on and on

Of all the things, who cares. Christ I hated the prequels for putting a bunch of children with helmets on their heads and waving lightsabers. If you really think about it, how does the first jedi come about if you need certified training. It's a chicken and egg thing ain't it?
