The throne room from ROTJ was extremely more interesting. And the old quite calm red guards from that movie much more cool than new ninja versions.

Lol wait, the movie doesn't explain this? I was under the impression she hops onto a Supremacy escape pod or something and reunites with Chewie down on Crait. Or does she mysteriously just show up in the Falcon with Chewie?

I've only seen it once, but I don;t recall seeing this happen. I mean, it doesn;t take much extrapolation.... the ship was falling apart. It's easy enough to surmise she hops an escape pod and Chewie picks her up, but I don;t recall seeing this...

I remember being a bit surprised/confused when she showed up in the Falcon and do not think it was explained how she got there at all.

Hmm, I guess if they didn't show any explanation it's maybe not necessary since it's not hard to guess how she got away.

It would've been neat if she'd somehow met up with Finn and Rose and they escaped together so that seems like a missed opportunity to me.

She didn't even know Finn was on the supremacy.

TFA generated a lot of questions and debates were running through 2 years. I don't think it's gonna be the same intensity after tlj.

tlj won't generalte a lot of debate or mysteries or questions. It will still the remains of tfa

I don't know why, but Luke saying "Darth Sidious" instead of "The Emperor" bugged the bejesus out of me!

Sadly, I have to agree with almost everything you wrote.

Never felt conflicted and angry after watching a Star Wars movie, but after this one, I really wanted to punch RJ's face.

There are some great moments in it, some nice visuals, but overall, I just didn't feel like I'm watching a Star Wars movie... :(

For a split second there, it wasn't Luke Skywalker you were watching, but fanboy Mark Hamill

Complaint #1 - People with unreasonable expectations that complain when those expecations of specific story lines are not met.

Complaint #2 - Those aformentioned people who are trying to convince others that the movie is bad.

The thing that immadetely stuck out to me was the subplot with Benicio Del Toro. I think that entire thing could have been cut from the movie. It added nothing to the film. You could have had Finn and Rose get on the ship without that and get captured without him or the stupid Casino planet.

I then think maybe it would have been more pleasing for Luke to have actually been there for the final showdown with Kyle Ren and to go out Obi-Won style. Him being on the island was a wow moment, but for nothing since he died anyhow. Him dying there would have played better because he would redeem himself for leaving, and it would play back to the original theory.

Finally the Leia death/revival scene really bugs me. I think maybe you could have killed her there and been better off. Got no clue where they go from here.

Rey being stupid, wanting to redeem Kylo for no reason (but I guess that could be the Force bond's fault)
    Finn being completely sidelined
    Yoda looked horrible
So much rehashed music. Sorry John.

I'll probably think of more later.

The whole The Force Awakens mayor plot of finding "the map to Luke Skywalker" does in reality very little: Luke refused to do anything, besides a holographic appearance that gets the rebel a little more time to run away. But, it should not have been really impossible if they had managed to run through those caves anyway, which makes the whole "search for the map" in TFA - in my opinion - quite without real effect.

I think she escaped with Snoke's escape pod. Kylo does mention this briefly to Hux. Although Kylo isn't totally honest with Hux in this scene, I like to believe Rey did indeed use the pod.

People need to stop using this excuse ASAP. I’m a die hard life long fan with no expectations going in - and for the first time ever, I’m not sure I like a Star Wars movie.

That doesn’t affect your experience, but this is a place to vent.

And critics certainly don't cultivate unreasonable expectations by calling it a "masterpiece" and "the best film since TESB", right? No, they're the arbiters of truth and anyone who states otherwise clearly just wanted something that didn't happen, not analyzing the films on their own merits. Get a grip.

I actually saw Thor Ragnarok immediately before i went into TLJ as we had free tickets to use before it got taken off the screens. I walked out of that thinking, what a great film. Genuinely funny, great unique music & design - all with fantastic acting. Blanchett, Goldblum, Thompson, Hiddleston, Ruffalo, Hemsworth - all do great jobs in that film. Yes it is slap-stick - but it is clever about it.

The Last Jedi - the humour is just dumb. All the original SW films had great laughs in them, but they relied on chemistry between Leia, Han & Chewie to get them - or Yoda & Luke - C3P0 & R2 .... there was chemistry between those characters that got those laughs & the laughs felt in line with the Universe they were set in. This wasn't like that at all. You can't have characters that have the demeanour of Nazi's then searching for gags like they did with Hux - Its not an episode of Hogans Heroes - its the 9th adaption of a film sequence which has already began.

To be honest, this movie was (and it was deliberate) the taking away of Star Wars as we know it. They are waving good bye and trying to usher in a new plot, characters etc and holding no prisoners to hold the future to ransom. The problem is, this Star Wars is cashing in on the popularity & blind dedication the originals created - to usher in a new generation which quite frankly, is not that good.

Don't get me wrong - there are some really great scenes & some of the themes it incorporated with the parrelles to our current world situation were really smart, brave and well executed in thought and theme. The issue is, they surrounded this handling of a very serious and difficult theme i.e., disenchantment of the population politically , BDToro's characters statement that was basically "check-out and don't engage the world - its corrupt" - War & the wealth it creates is the real evil, the 2 sides are just pawns etc etc etc, the disastrous role outdated religion beliefs play in our current world - people following religion blindly without ever even reading the text..... These themes were handled really well and subtly and created a genuinely intelligent foundation where this film should have worked and been exceptional.

The problem is though - it cheapened its own good work with corny gags, bad character development (Rose???), cop out "hero survival" plot points & bull**** whimsical glorification of past characters...... I have NO PROBLEM with them moving the series forward with a new cast of characters - but chose your path and stick to it - there is no point trying to be everything to everyone.

I've come across numerous leaked clips. And for sure, my major complaint is it just doesn't feel like Star Wars at all. The tone is so different. But I don't know how I feel yet. I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the entire movie, because maybe I will end up liking it.

None of the clips I saw were of the Finn/Rose plotline, which I hear is just plain dumb and pointless, so I'm sure that will be something I dislike.

    • The slapstick humour they keep using (I think Poe's interactions with the "baddies" is always the worst culprit) is frustrating and takes me out of the scene whenever it occurs.
    • The whole Finn/Rose subplot. I have nothing against the two characters, but their entire arc was essentially pointless to the plot (as apparently they were never going to jump back into Hyperspace anyway) and they found themselves in escalating no-way-out situations only to be saved in stupid ways. I feel like we needed an emotional payoff and one of them needed to die.
    • I'm on the fence about the direction they took Luke in. Do I think the Luke Skywalker we saw in the OT would do these things? Probably not, but his motivations work for this film, so that's fine. What I didn't like was how he died. He appears to distract Kylo for the resistance to escape, and then just sorta goes? Really didn't like it.
    • The whole sequence with Leia surviving the vacuum of space. If you weren't going to kill the character there, don't put her in such a ridiculous position.
    • Following on from that, we see the damn command bridge get destroyed, yet for the rest of the movie they manage to fly the cruiser just fine? Unless I missed something, that shouldn't be okay (especially because we already have the precedent in Star Wars [ala the Executor] that ships need their bridges).
    • Phasma was almost criminally underused... again.
    • I wasn't a fan of the entire sequence on Krait to be honest.
P.S. I do have some pretty major issues with the film, but I did still enjoy it for what it was. I personally don't think it deserves the praise it's getting as the best Star Wars movie since ESB (I still think both ROTJ and ROTS are superior films, and RO but I guess anthology films are a little different) but it was still enjoyable. Not that it really matters either way, but I liked it A LOT more than TFA, and while it didn't really leave you *needing* to see what happens next I still feel invested enough to go see IX when it eventually comes out.
