When did heavy metal become Goth? That's not the goth i was raised on and embraced, i tell you that much.

I liked Marilyn Manson better when he was called David Bowie.

 

I guess they [the kids] are just too wimpy to really be considered "metalheads" anymore, so they decided to rip off a previous subculture's nickname.

To paraphrase Moby on Manson and his supposed affiliation with the Church of Satan, "If there's some all-powerful Satan out there, what would he be doing hanging out with a bunch of Goth kids in a basement?"

 

When i was goth, or at least thought i was for a few years, goth bands consisted of guys who would get the crap kicked out of them by metal heads.

 

I know that guy, he hit me in the face with a sack of tomatos.

 

Mmm...gothic girls. I was only able to get one gothic girl in my life. The others were off limits because I refused to paint myself up like the Crow and whine and sulk all day. Sigh.

But seriously. I live in the death metal capital of the world and there may have been a couple of death metal bands that were Satanic but the mainstream acts, it's called marketing. They're not satanic, they're not anarchists and they're not rebels. They're businessmen.

Anarchists with publicists don't impress me.

 

The Church of Satan has nothing to do with actual Satan worship. It was founded by Anton Lavey, and he doesn't believe in him or God... neither do satanists. True satanism is more a philosophy than a religion. (No, I'm not one. Don't start jumping down my throat.)

I'm not sure if MM is a member, but Lavey was a supporter and a fan.

I just thought I'd clear that up.

 

While we're on the subject of sellouts, what's with all the KISS impersonators lately? Slipknot, ICP, Mudvayne, etc.. Are these guys really that ugly?

And people really believed that in the 70's, as fervently as the people today believe that Manson and the others are Satan worshippers. Today it seems silly that anyone ever actually believed that Kiss was Satanic (they're nice Jewish boys who went to business meetings in suits to discuss the band) and the same will be true of the new guys in a few years.
