The Searches influence on Star Wars, Screenshots Compared

Hi all,
I was watching the old western movie The Searches and found some shots that looked very similar to some shots in star wars. Here are some screenshots taken to show you . Sorry if you have already seen this, i know it is documented that GL took inspiration from this movie.


The first comparison is the cantina.

The next comparison is the tusken camp and the comanche camp.

This is almost identical

The next one is of the burining homesteads

I love how filmakers pay homage to their influences like that. Awesome. I was particularly impressed with the Tusken Camp comparison.

 

Yeah, i was really supprised how similar the tusken camp shot was aswell.

The Tusken one is awesome

 

Nice, I remember noticing the Tusken camp when I saw it theaters but didn't realize the other ones. Cna't wait to see the other shots that are going to be seen in ROTS.

 

Wow, that's very interesting. I always knew SW payed homage to old Westerns but I'd never really seen it firsthand (not being a big fan of the genre)

Ha! The cantina says "Cantina" on it.


I think there is a shot of John Wayne looking at the homestead burning with the wind blowing his hair.....that better matches up with the Luke pic.


Also, I believe he carries a body similar to Anakin carrying his mother's dead body.



Haven't seen Searchers in a while, but I think I'm right on both of these.

 

I'm surprised no one mentioned yet that in the last pic, that guy's costume looks a lot like Han Solo's.

 

There is also a shot in AOTC that was taken from Lawrence of Arabia - it was even shot in the same location in Spain. It's the one where Anakin and Padme have just arrived on Naboo, and they're walking along with R2 in two....There are several columns on the right of screen.

I think you are right, i also remember shots similar to the ones you described... when i have some spare time i will dig them up, i'm in a stressful exam period at the moment.

 

I have to say I'm rather impressed with the Cinematography of The Searchers... I'll have to check it out sometime
