The Senate is not dissolved when Palpatine is killed. What happens next?

As many of you might already note, the destruction of The Empire was in large part due the Warlordism that happened following Palpatine's death.

Now a huge part of this is because there was no solid structure to continue the Empire afterwards. Below Sidious was Vader, he was the only clear successor to him, with him gone at the same time, it was not clear how the Empire would go on and fell into Warlordism.

However that was not necessarily the case, the Imperial Senate had the power, indeed perhaps the ONLY power of significance they had at that point, to elect a new Emperor if Sidious dies.

So my question is, if Sidious didnt dissolved the Senate and died in Endor.

What would happen? Would this avoid warlordism as there is now a body with the full legal and indisputable capability to elect a new emperor? Who would be crowned? Would the new emperor be backed up with such a strong claim to the throne or it would happen the same as with Pestage and be deposed?

 

To answer your question their would probably still be a power struggle of some kind but all in all we don't allow what if threads on the board.
