    Welcome to the Science Fiction/Fantasy Favorite Book tournament. A few notes before we begin:

  2. This is a favorite book tournament, not best book tournament. So don't vote based on which is considered better, but just vote for the one you like more

  3. Each round will last at least 24 hours, and possibly more depending on the number of votes received and my schedule. Later rounds (I will announce when this takes effect) will last at least 48 hours. Be sure to look at my most recent post for who is being voted upon currently. Votes for previous (or future) rounds will be ignored. You do not have to vote for every pairing in a round, however; you may abstain from some if you wish.

  4. Each book title will link to either a wikipedia article or some other page, such as amazon.com, to help you decide if you have trouble deciding which to vote for

  5. Feel free to discuss why you voted for a particular book, that is a large part of what makes these fun.

  6. Voting with socks is prohibited. Such votes will be discounted and the user barred from future voting. Obviously, if you're game-banned and using a sock, you can vote with the sock as long as you do not vote with your regular name as well.

  7. The bracket is divided into the Science Fiction League and Fantasy League brackets, each of which has 8 divisions named after various SFF authors. Most divisions have 9 teams in them, but the first five have 10. Each division will be narrowed down to 8 teams via opening round matchups (randomly selected and marked with a dash) and then the regular first round will commence. The ordering of the books in the list, which includes the selection for who is in the opening round, was done at random. Please note that no actual correlation is intended between League name, Division name, and books in that division. There may be a Science Fiction Author's Division in the Fantasy League, with books by other authors, both science fiction and fantasy - this will be the case many times over, in fact. Since the League/Division names are merely for reference, they hold no actual relevance.

  8. For most of the tournament, there will be 4 pairs of books to vote on at a time. As the field narrows, this will drop to two and eventually only one pair. One opening round set, however, will have 5 pairs

  9. I will post the updated bracket on occasion, though not every time the round changes. The bracket will be kept in the second post of this thread, and will be updated more frequently, though again, not every time.

    The Black Cauldron by Lloyd Alexander - I love this book :D I need to reread these; it's been a while. But I think this series was really my introduction to fantasy and I loved it :D Gave me chills.

    Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder - This too :D I was absolutely captivated the first time I read this - I think I started rereading right away 8-}

    The Hero strikes Back by Moira J. Moore - really funny, witty, sarcastic - all things embodied by the narrator. Desoite what the funny cover suggests, her style isn't like John Moore's, but it's worth a read (this is the second i the series).

    Son of the Shadows by Juliet Marillier - very hard since I love both, but I've loved this longer (and The Thirteenth House is my least favorite of the first 4 books in its series). It's the sequel to a book that's a take on the story about the girl whose brothers get turned into swans. Very lovely.

    Asimov Division: The Black Cauldron by Lloyd Alexander (though IMO the entire Chronicles of Prydain series should be grouped together as one full "novel", since printed in mainstream-size print it comes out to about 500 pages, the average sci-fi/fantasy book length).

    Abstain from the rest.
