    Incidentally, there was nothing wrong with what I put in the box - somehow extra spaces got added when it was posted that weren't in the text box 8-}

[face_laugh] [:D] Possibly a sign of too many markups - it's in the second post of the thread, too.

Not any more than I had in the baseball version of this... or the football version...

Oh well. Next round up shortly!

Well thanks Rogue, the Tolkien division is impossible, and the Jordan division I haven't read any of them!

    Tolkien Division

Eye of the World - starts slow, but is a great start to my favorite fantasy series of all time. The Dark Knight Returns is very well done, but not on the level of EOTW.

Childhood's End - on a short list of some of the very best science fiction ever written, in my opinion. The Two Towers is incredible, but it's also my least favorite of the trilogy, so I'm going to ever so slightly vote in favor of Clarke. I'm sure I'll lose this one though.

    Jordan Division

Forgive my ignorance here but what exactly do you mean when you say Robert Jordan DIVISION, Tolkein DIVISION?

Forgive my ignorance here but what exactly do you mean when you say Robert Jordan DIVISION, Tolkein DIVISION?

See first post - its a way to group the books to make it easier to run a tournament like this. To quote myself..."The bracket is divided into the Science Fiction League and Fantasy League brackets, each of which has 8 divisions named after various SFF authors. Most divisions have 9 teams in them, but the first five have 10. Each division will be narrowed down to 8 teams via opening round matchups (randomly selected and marked with a dash) and then the regular first round will commence. The ordering of the books in the list, which includes the selection for who is in the opening round, was done at random. Please note that no actual correlation is intended between League name, Division name, and books in that division. There may be a Science Fiction Author's Division in the Fantasy League, with books by other authors, both science fiction and fantasy - this will be the case many times over, in fact. Since the League/Division names are merely for reference, they hold no actual relevance."

    Eye of the World
    Two Towers
Lies of Locke Lamora (by reputation - I'll be starting it tomorrow)
Naked Sun - very tough one for me; Well of Ascension is an excellent book. But this vote is omitted to prevent a tie. :(

Definitely Return of the King and The Silmarillion. I'm gonna have to abstain from the other two matchups for now, just too close to call. I may come back to them later after some thinking.

You weren't kidding about this being a tough round! I sure picked quite a time to get back into the tournament :)

Return of the King - only easy one here for me. Though I'd like to read Heroes Die.
Hero of Ages, though Children of Hurin is quite good as well. Vote omitted to prevent tie, though :(

My love for WoT on here is well known, and Shadow Rising is an awesome, awesome book. But Asimov's Robot-Foundations novels are right up there with them for me and Robots and Empire is one of the best in that series, IMO. So I'll have to go with Robots and Empire.
Talion: Revenent. Tough one again, because the Silmarillion is an excellent work. Slow reading, sure... but wow, it's good. Talion: Revenent, though, edges it out.
