It's so amusing how he seems to think that by cloning Lennon he will be "bringing back one of rock's greatest stars". :p No, you would just have a body that was genetically identical to that of John Lennon, but you wouldn't (and couldn't) replicate John's mind, soul, and his musical genius. Basically you'd have a living cardboard cut-out.

And Liam Gallagher already has that role sewn up.

I haven't quite got into it yet. I don't dislike it but it's a little "bouncy", a bit on the Cliff Richard side. It's nice but hasn't swept me away yet.

I wasn't born when this was in it's first run. But I do remember MTV showing the Beatles cartoon. I mean would something like this be shown today?

my top one beatles song is revolution 9.

    nah, just kiddin'.

i will tell you a personal story about the song revolution 9, though. the first time i heard that song, i was about four or five years old. my young mind could not comprehend what was happening in the song/collage/whathaveyou, i could only understand it in terms of a story. in the story, some angry people were getting off a big bus. john lennon was the last to get off the bus, but unfortunately, someone had built a bonfire right at the exit, and so john lennon inadvertently stepped into the flames and burned to death. as he burned, he yelled and screamed. i thought it was the coolest soundstory ever.

    McCartney, "New" review.

    http://www.offthetracks.co.nz/paul-mccartney-new/

"...Where both of those records had him tapping out – giving up the game, all but being trampled on by the game, New is the energy-kick that is obvious when you see Macca perform live; if it takes one thing from Memory Almost Full it’s the spark, the idea of wanting to reposition, repurpose and reinvent/re-energise. But the songcraft here is more like what you heard on Chaos and Creation and Driving Rain though far less about self-consciously aping his former glories.

Sure, he’ll always be Paul and it’s probably evenly split between those who love him for that (and always will) and those who hate him for that (and grew into that without giving the best bits of his post-Beatles career a chance; or simply decided it was unfair that John was the one to go) but the opening brace of songs on New feels like the best kind of victory lap. A guy who can write a pop song in his sleep – and has finally woken up (again) and decided it’s best he not keep doing that. A guy who had a hand in inventing pop music, prepared, now – as always – to be the experimental one even though credit for that was slow and still forthcoming...."

I heard this album today. Lots of fun. I might even buy it. Haven't decided yet, but there's one song on there that stood out. "Early Days". Made me smile and almost shed a tear.

New is a terrific album. Musically quite diverse as it plays with a few different genres. Whether or not you enjoyed the title track (the first single), don't judge the album but that alone. There's a plethora of grooves and styles on this disc. Sometimes lacking flow but on the whole it's a pretty good album.
