Gardens, crossing over to the island

Kasha continued to paddle the boat across to the island. What was her senses telling her? That was a good question. She could sense distress through the Force from Aroon. "I don't trust Aroon," she whispered softly knowing her voice could carry across the water, she whispered so her voice didn't carry across the small lake. "What was Padawan Zoe doing on the island alone when we're on the look out for a Jedi turned Sith among our group? She shouldn't have been out there alone. I want to question Lacie and I know exactly which questions I want to ask her."

And the question for her master, where was Aroon at the time of the murder? And why did he leave his padawan alone on the island when he should've been with her? Something wasn't adding up at all.

    Gardens - Island bound boat

Apparently Kasha hadn't noticed that they had already began to move, as Suraya held out her hand over the water off the side of the boat pulling them via the Force, or maybe she also wanted the exercise. Either way, Suraya unnoticeably dropped her palm and listened to Kasha's words, nodding in agreement. Zoe's solo excursion indeed doesn't make sense at a time like this...unless she was a padawan with a real affinity for disobedience...she took a breath wondering if Kasha might have known her personally... We may no doubt also see Knight Dareagen when we arrive...can you think of anything we might need to ask of or relay to him before we escort Lacie back to the infirmary?

Looking around again at the breathtaking snow-covered landscape she continued... Last night in my quarters I was reflecting on Harbinger's revelations...which lead to more questions of my own regarding this doppelganger's abilities. What if this Sith or his comrades have abducted or killed one of us and is now impersonating them? We wouldn't even know...she shook her head from side to side. Can we also presume that they can change their outer appearance at will, again and again, whenever the occasion calls? If that is the case...she paused to shudder...imagine seeing your own self, mirrored perfectly before you. This one darksider could destroy us all.

Turning back to Zurros Ka, Tim said; "My Grandmother came into contact with Luke and Mara Skywalker when she was a young girl. She was Force-sensitive and seems to have had some sort of natural wild talent with the Force, from what I understand, people just seemed to lose track of her when she didn't want to be noticed. She never trained as a Jedi, even though Luke and Mara stayed in touch with her and sent her a lot of information - as did some of the others in their generation of Jedi; people like Kyle Katarn and Corran Horn, for example.

That information, which my Grandmother kept and passed down to me, is how I managed to self-train to a certain extent while on my way here. I took two years on the journey attempting to prevent being tracked and it was only a few months before leaving Agamar that I learned I was Force-sensitive myself.

I've no doubt you've much more experience of Jedi than I do - I only arrived as Grandmaster Decinchi's team were engaging the Rakata and putting their Dark-side Crystal beyond use - so do you think Darth Slinker's actions, particularly this murder, would unsettle this community as much as it probably would a non-Jedi group.... Or has he/she maybe miscalculated?

Zurros thought he saw Ian Thrace winking at him, but wasn't sure. 'Why would he wink at me?' Zurros thought to himself.

Listening as Battershell finished speaking, he wondered what it was that made him assume that he was inexperienced in comparison. 'It sounds like your Grandmother was lucky, meeting two legends of the Jedi Order is something that every Jedi in the galaxy would hope to achieve.' Pausing for a moment, Zurros gathered himself. Deciding to confide in Battershell. 'I may have more experience with The Force, but I too am fairly new to The Order. I was taught Jedi skills by my mother, although they were not used for the good of others. We were assassins. He paused again, to let that settle in. He had no idea of the effect this was have on his new found friend. But the truth about his past would have come out eventually. 'That is a tricky question my friend, a non-Jedi community wouldn't have our resources to find the culprit. On the other hand they would not have to live with the knowledge that someone managed to commit this horrible crime under their noses, even though we have The Force as our ally.

Tim paused a few seconds before replying to Zurros Ka's rather startling revelation; using a muted voice to keep what he said between the two of them.

"Wasn't Mara sort-of in that line of work herself in her younger days; and serving Sheev Palpatine into the bargain? Come to think about it, family rumour has it that one of my distant relatives was a member of an Imperial Intelligence section called 'Adjustments', way back then. Doing much the same thing before he deserted and joined a Mercenary group.

Seems to me that making the choice to join the Guardians of Light, and acting upon it sincerely, goes a long way toward giving fresh starts to any of us that need them. Can't say there won't be objections from some, but I'd suggest having a quiet talk with my Master and asking her advice when you think the time is right for your past to become public knowledge. Until then, my lips are sealed!

What I was trying to get at is that some powerful deceased Jedi seem to be able to manifest themselves to the living; at least for a time. I've only ever heard that happening with Jedi, not with any other group. If true, and there are several reports from reputable witnesses - ones who could certainly tell reality from illusion - then it changes our thinking on physical death from 'The End' to a simple waypoint on a continuing journey. Not that I'm in any hurry to find out for myself, mind you!

Point being, Jedi might be rather less vulnerable to Darth Slinker's brand of terror-tactics than a comparable group of non-Jedi. Frankly, I feel Slinker would have done better to have remained an invisible and unconfirmed Sith for a good while longer.

From her serene and calm expression, Kasha appeared to have the physical endurance to paddle the boat all day without tiring. Suraya, on the other hand, still felt fatigue from her previous captivity from the many days spent sleeping on a cold, hard cell floor. Just watching Sherland made her own shoulders ache emphatically. As she meditatively listened to Kasha's steady, composed, alternating oar strokes into the water, she decided to share an idea...

May I borrow your comlink? I have a proposal...we could ask Tim to ask Aroon a question only he would know? Something obscure and specific from his past? If your padawan does not know him so well, perhaps he could approach Master Piim and offer her the suggestion? She would most likely understand intuitively its intent. This might immediately verify if Aroon is who he says he is...what do you think? Do you have faith that Tim could do it discreetly?

"Tim doesn't know him well enough," Kasha answered with a heavy sigh. She barely knew anything about Aroon herself. "I don't know if we can verify something like that, some of us haven't been at the temple long enough to get to know the others that way," she bit her lip as she continued to paddle. "Besides, if Aroon is the one we're looking for. I don't want to accidentally spook him. There'll be other ways to get to the truth."

Perhaps...but even if Tim or Piim happened to mention one detail about his past to Aroon...say where he was from specifically or the name of his Master or family, and say it incorrectly, then the real person would automatically correct the mistake, and an imposter would be none the wiser. These things would be impossible for the Sith to guess. Are you afraid it would put Tim in danger?

Kasha sighed in frustration. She didn't like it when people pushed her into a situation she didn't feel comfortable in. It seemed like Suraya was jumping at shadows. "I don't feel comfortable asking my padawan to put himself deliberately into danger. If Aroon isn't who he says he is, he will slip up at some point in time. We don't have much to go on to move against him yet. Besides, it seems to me the Sith has gotten into your head. He wants us jumping at shadows so we don't see the real culprit coming until it's too late."

Fair enough. I respect your position. Let us wait. Suraya smiled at Kasha's conservative response, even though felt she had not apparently put all of the pieces of what she had said during their time together in the boat fully in terms of what the Sith might potentially be capable or what she was proposing. Or maybe Suraya was at fault for not explaining herself clearly...anyway, speaking to Piim or Zey directly once they returned would be the better option if the idea indeed held any merit. She now closed her eyes and reached out via the healing powers of the Force to find and soothe Lacie.

"Goodbye Zoe," Kai hears the young padawan says as the two pass the dismembered body. Kai had to look away. He couldn’t see her like that. After getting to the shore he sees two Jedi approaching on a boat. His cold wet clothes began to chill him to the bone. He must have been too much in grief to realize that his body is shivering. He gives a wave to the two Jedi approaching. It appears to be Suraya and Knight Sherland. Kai stands on the shore trying to get his teeth to stop chattering, when he hears the medical droid call out from behind him.

"Excuse me sir, I believe I have found something of value."

They young knight looks over his shoulder, “be right there” he turns back to the padawan, “Wait here, the others will be here shortly.” He pushes back to the clearing keeping his eyes averted from the carnage. “What is it?”

“Wait here, the others will be here shortly.” Lacie nodded, her eyes misting up again before she threw a quick hug around the Jedi Knight who had become her protector. She didn't care that he was wet and cold, only that he had been there for her during the worst moments of her life. "Thank you," she whispered to him before letting go, and watching him go back towards the... Towards where Zoe had died.

Her gaze there lingered on him for a moment before she turned towards the approaching Jedi. Knight Sherland she knew was on the Council, but the Mirialan wasn't a Jedi she was acquainted with. They had been sent to collect her of course, but deep down she didn't want to go. She didn't want to leave Zoe. Wordlessly she gave a curt bow to the approaching Jedi and then followed them onto the boat that would return her to the other side of the lake.

    “What is it?”

Serjon had long grown accustomed to all manner of conversation with the various kinds of patients a medical droid encountered while performing their duties. There were excitable hypochondriacs, patients that thought they knew better than you, impatient beings that just wanted to get everything over with, patients that didn't want to know the real problem and just wanted it fixed and so on. This situation was not one that the medical droid had encountered much over its long years of service, but still Serjon detected a touch of exasperation or annoyance in Knight Dareagen's voice. Serjon had been told that his "bed side manner" was often lacking, perhaps that was the source of the Jedi's annoyance. Or maybe the Jedi simply didn't want to be here, performing this particular task. In either case it didn't affect what the medical droid said next.

"I have completed my holo-scan as well as some preliminary tests. Due to...various factors," in an effort to not cause further consternation for the Jedi, Serjon refrained from listing them. "I have determined that time of death was somewhere between 2 and 10 hours ago." Serjon checked his internal chronometer which read not quite 0630 hours now. "That is sometime between 2015 last night and 0415 this morning." The droid gave the mechanical equivalent of a shrug, knowing that the information provided wouldn't be particularly helpful. "I have also determined that cause of death was a single lightsaber blow to the neck, partially from behind. Despite the nature of the corpse, it is highly unlikely that the victim suffered." Serjon hoped it's analysis would at least help to assuage some of the feelings of loss for the Jedi.

"There is also one more thing, the reason I called you back here." Having finished with the preliminaries, the droid had saved the best part for last. "There appears to be something in the victim's mouth. I have not removed it as you have not yet released me to move or alter the body, but I thought it might pertain to your investigation."

After the customary introductions and embarking for their return journey, Suraya noticed that Lacie was slightly trembling, perhaps from a combination of the cold and shock. She took off a heavy shawl which she had brought to cut the chill while crossing the lake and placed it around Lacie's shoulders. If I may humbly offer...the Force allows me to serve as a conduit for healing energy, so if you will allow me, your mental permission to receive it will help to improve its effectiveness. Saying this, she gave her a reassuring and supportive smile and awaited her consent.

"If I may humbly offer...the Force allows me to serve as a conduit for healing energy, so if you will allow me, your mental permission to receive it will help to improve its effectiveness." Lacie fought her own blank look to form a very small smile as she now hugged the shawl closer to her body. It was the Mirialan, Knight Archisa. It was a kind effort, and it was so nice of her to offer to help in that way. But it seemed very personal, and Lacie wasn't ready for that yet. Her mind was a jumble, racing one moment and going blank the next. She didn't really want to be receiving anything from anyone right now. She shook her head slightly.

Kasha nodded as she resisted placing a hand on Lacie's shoulder. The girl seemed jumpy at physical contact. After what happened she didn't blame her, she remembered being just as jumpy after her parents were killed by sand people on Tatooine. She gave a subtle warning glare to Archisa to watch her step. She didn't want Lacie to accidentally jump the boat in shock. She stretched out with the Force touching Tim's mind with her own. He had a pretty good touch with kids himself after she observed the way he behaved around her children. //We're on our way back, meet me at the shoreline, Padawan..// "Lacie, maybe after a hot meal and some sleep. Do you think you would be up for a few questions? You're Zoes roommate, I believe. You may know something that will give us a clue about the time she went out to the island, who went with her, did she disobey her master or did he go with her? That sort of thing," she sensed the girl wasn't up for questioning at the moment.

//We're on our way back, meet me at the shoreline, Padawan..//; came the mental direction from Tim's Master.

Excusing himself to Zurros Ka, Tim made his way to the edge of the water where the boat would come to rest. No need to attempt to reply in like fashion, he thought, Master Kasha would certainly see him moving into position and draw the correct conclusions.

While moving, Tim rapidly reviewed the highlights of the Agamar Security Force protocol on "Material Witnesses - Care, Protection and Treatment.". Much of it did not apply, but he should - given his Master's blessing - be able to improvise something roughly equivalent, particularly in the matter of a 'Safe House'.

Yes, he thought, that should do nicely!

Folding her hands in her lap and staring into the water, Suraya recalled once during her training, on a day when the padawans had been taken to a nearby wooded sanctuary as a break from their usual routine, one of the Jedi elders had summoned her. He was an enigma, often sitting alone on a large smooth stone in a grove of young pines, observing everything with his eyes only half open to the world. Rarely did he speak, even in their Temple, and when he did, it was often in the form of poetry or a short anecdote, but without explanation. As she approached him, he motioned for her to sit in the grass at his side. He had no doubt been observing her interactions with her peers before requesting her presence. They stayed like that for several minutes, without a word passing between them, at first Suraya's heart beating rapidly, trying to anticipate what was to come, until finally she felt a peace wash over her like she had never felt before and a calmness that left her as mute as her companion. Then opening his eyes fully, the elder spoke to her for the first time ever, barely in a whisper...the flower opens to the sun's light...on its own.

Ian retreated to the back of the group, the better to keep a watchful eye on everyone, while Knight's Sherland and Archisa asked permission to head over to the island. Ian shuddered at the thought, better them than me. He couldn't imagine being forced to see whatever had occurred over there (Grandmaster Zey had mentioned Padawan Zoe being 'cut to pieces"), much less actually volunteering to do so. The Grandmaster seemed to have no objections though, and the pair set off in the small boat towards the island.

At the same time Padawans "Battershell" and Ka were in deep conversation, though from where Ian stood he couldn't hear what they were saying. Ian did hope that Ka was keeping a close eye on the other being who called himself a Padawan, even if Ian wasn't so sure. At least that brute Taab had left, exiting the garden after talking to the two Jedi Knights stationed there. Good, that meant that it was no longer Ian's job to "secure" the door, but how did Taab know they were trustworthy?

Ian bit his lower lip at that, noting the irony in the thought of Taab finding Jedi trustworthy. Right now Ian didn't trust anyone, except for maybe his own Master and of course himself. If he were the Sith spy he would know it, wouldn't he? His face grew pale at the thought. What if he wouldn't know it? What if the Sith was some sort of double personality within one of them? What if it were Ian?

He started to tremble. If that were true, if the Sith really was the result of a double or hidden personality, than any of them, from the Grandmaster on down to Ian could be the Sith spy and none of them could really be trusted...

    TCC, Temple of Light

Standing at the central command console Knight Rand looked over to Knight Vomkoju at the comms panel and simply said with a mirthful grin. "He's coming back." There was nothing amusing about the situation of course. A medical team had been dispatched to the Temple Garden for what had been a report of a dead body and it was from the Garden that the awful pain that both the Human and twi'lek Knights had felt the terrible pain emanating from. Something terrible had happened there, and with a Sith on the loose somewhere in the Temple, the conclusion was obvious.

Rand still tried his best to ease the tension in the current situation, and the immanent arrival of Major Taab, his underlying aggression could be felt from well beyond spitting distance under the best of circumstances. Now, tinged with outright anger and frustration, it was like a beacon in the normally calm Temple, even though the Jedi themselves were still embroiled in their own emotional turmoil as well. Closing his eyes Rand focused on that, tapping into the general feelings of the Jedi here on Saridona Prime. The results, while not surprising, caused his smile to drop for a moment.

It was if a great dark cloud had descended on them all. Suspicion, paranoia, uncertainty and fear clung oppressively to the Temple, and underneath it all, the stench of the Dark Side. They had to find this infiltrator, and soon.

Vomkoju nodded back to him now, agreeing with Rand's previous statement. "He's here," and then the hatch was unlocked and opened.

Taab entered the TCC, glancing around "clearing" the room mentally, though his weapons remained safely holstered Still he noted as The Negotiator (Knight Rand) shared a look with the green skinned Twi'lek Knight and gave a small smile before asking, "How bad is it Major?"

"Easy Pickings," he received a matching set of quizzical looks for the Jedi. "Padawan Zoe," he clarified for them. "Is dead." He left out the bit about her being hacked to pieces and her head placed on a pike. No point in doing the Sith's job by frightening these Jedi further with the details. "Probably killed by the Sith."

The Negotiator rubbed his chin, deep in thought. "A sensible conclusion." The Twi'lek though seemed more, agitated either by Taab's presence or what was going on.

"And you're back here why exactlly?"

Taab's helmeted head swung over to look at the Twi'lek. "To go over some of last night's security footage and verify a few alibis." He swiftly strode up the short series of steps to his security station.

"I thought Knight Dareagen was in charge of the investigation." It was a statement, not a question and it riled Taab's frustration even more.

"He is," Taab answered as he activated his station and started bringing up the appropriate files. "My interest is in verifying some security matters." He selected the files for the hallway near the Knight's dorms. Of course the Jedi investigator had also mentioned that he would be going through the holo cam recordings for outside the Garden. Taab started setting those up for him as well while he examined the footage he had selected for himself. "Tough Guy (Kai Dareagen)," his meaning was clear here and needed no further explanation. "Will be along at his convenience to examine his own evidence."

The pair of Jedi shared another look before shrugging in unison and returning to their own duties.

The boat floated on towards the shore, there seemed to be so many Jedi just standing there. It was a little overwhelming. She shivered again despite the shawl. "Zoe left our room last evening just after lights out. Said she was on her way to the island" She wiped away her tears with her fingers. "She did that sometimes, she really liked the solitude there, said it helped her to clear her head and sleep." She sniffed loudly. "Usually she comes back after an hour or so, but last night she was really upset. I told her not to worry but..." She shrugged as the boat hit the shore and the trio got out onto the beach.

General Zey watched as the boat beached itself and the three Jedi came ashore. Knight Archisa's shawl was around Lacie's shoulders, but the girl looked much as she had back on the island a few minutes before. She was talking at least it seemed, with Knight Sherland. She had been right to volunteer then as she was clearly getting through to the grief stricken padawan.

"Knight Sherland, I believe you were going to take padawan Lacie her to the sickbay," he saw the padawan's eyes grow wide as saucers. It seemed clear she didn't want to go there. "If you would please take padawan's Thrace and Tano along with you." He turned to the pair of padawans. Young Ian would be his eyes and ears if anything happened, and Tano could also be of help in easing her fellow padawan's mind. Whether that meant Thrace or Lacie was the question though he thought to himself whimsically. Both being padawans, Lacie's peers, they might better be able to comfort her than even a Knight could.

He looked to Knight Archisa, who had initially also volunteered to help Lacie, but he had other plans for her now. "Knight Archisa, I need you and Knight Trevalus to go to the stockade." He remembered how the pair of them had done more to unnerve their "guests" than anyone else had. Perhaps they needed more of that. "See what additional information you can glean from the Sith we have in custody." He frowned in thought for a moment. Both were Jedi Knights, and no doubt good with a blade, but an additional escort never hurt. "Knight Be’orar, Miss Dryn, would you please accompany them and assist them as needed please." He winked to the pair, hoping his meaning was clear.

"Now, Padawan Battershell." He looked for Sherland's padawan. "Knight Larod informed me last night of a..." he paused before settling on the right phraseology. "Special project that the two of you put together." Zey had instantly approved of the extra surveilance equipment once he had been told, though he wished his padawan had come to him first before Larod had. "Take padawan Ka with you and check on the progress there. Knight Sandstrider, you can supervise their efforts." The Jedi Knight had been the one to approve of their "special project", it was only right that he be the one to help them with it.

"Knight Aroon," he looked to the Jedi whose padawan had been killed. The normally expressionless Knight seemed beside himself with grief, and wouldn't even look at Lacie who gave him a cold hard stare. "I know this is a difficult time for you, but if you would accompany me to the Council Chambers. I think it best that we get you away from this place at the moment."

OOC: Take some time getting to your destinations. That will give galactic-vagabond422 a chance to further his investigation some before the next "event." If anyone has any questions, as always feel free to PM me.

Kasha gave a confirmation nod to Master Zey as she watched Lacie for her reactions and noticed something odd. Aroon avoided Lacie's cold hard stare. That raised a red flag in the back of her mind as she tapped a message to Taab on her comlink.

//Place Knight Aroon on the top list of suspects.// She hit send as she turned her attention to Aroon with a sympathy expression. "My condolences on the loss of your padawan," she turned her attention to Tim with a small smile. "Sounds like you have a project to oversee. When you're done, let me know."

"Lacie, Thrace and Tano, let's go to the med ward," Kasha gently spoke as she nodded off to the only entrance that was not locked. She didn't say anything further but her answers only brought more questions to her mind.

Nothing like an old-school distribution of assignments to put everyone's mind at ease. Zey was wise to immediately give every being some purpose. Something practical to move all of them out of the emotional haze that still hung over the Guardians. Spotting Piim from a distance, Suraya briskly made her way to the Grand Master and relayed the fact that they had encountered Dareagen still in his wet clothes from his island swim and with his teeth chattering when they had gone to retrieve the girl. She then suggested that someone else could cross over with a dry set of robes and perhaps a blanket or two for the young knight.

Being seen by Piim, simply falling within her gaze, left Suraya feeling as if her every cell was reverberating with the Force, such was the effect of the presence of the Grand Master on her. She then stood quietly by her side awaiting to see if there might be anything she she would want to add to their instructions while simultaneously scanning the crowd hoping to be able to locate Trevalus, Be'orar and Dryn so that they could begin to make their way together to the cells of the two Sith prisoners.

With Padawan Lacie back from the island, Grandmaster Zey now watsed no time in handing out orders. "Knight Sherland, I believe you were going to take padawan Lacie here to the sickbay," Ian got the immediate sense that his fellow Padawan had no desire to be stuck there, and who could blame her? He didn't want to spend any more of his own time there, that was for sure.

"If you would please take padawan's Thrace and Tano along with you." Oh. Great. Should have seen that coming. He frowned as he looked at Knight Archisa. He would much rather be going along with her, to see the intoxicating Sith Lady in red, but Knight Sherland quickly took charge of their group.

"Lacie, Thrace and Tano, let's go to the med ward." Ian blinked twice, clearing his head. He gave a quick bow and an even quicker "Yes Master,"before following along after her.

As Kasha noticed they had finally gained enough distance away from Aroon and turned her attention to Lacie with a neutral expression. "Lacie, you said Zoe was really upset last night. Do you know the exact reason why she was upset? Was it someone or something that made her upset?"

OOC: I keep falling behind on this Roleplay....this will probably be a really short reply at best, while I work on catching up. Again.

It seemed like there was nothing but death to be seen in this Temple! Alisha's pocket was weighed down with a data pad given to her by Mr. Battershell, supposedly filled with notes by Jedi Masters long before her time. Now was far from the right time to feel any sort of excitement over it though, she now had to quiet her growing paranoia about a double-agent living among them.

She walked along with Master Kasha and Padawan Lacie, passing the occasional glance Thrace's way. Was he still wary of her? Her eyes went wide for an instant, realizing it had been barely two weeks since she had been rendered comatose in the Medical Bay, and here she was going back! Thrace had been in there plenty more times, but now it was for Lacie's sake. She could only hold out hope for her, offer comfort whenever she could, but it seemed like Kasha had it covered for now.
