    IC: Knight Alyali Pasholl (NPC)
Near the southern entrance, Just outside the Temple of Light

"May I ask what is going on inside the Temple walls?"

Pasholl usually did well suppressing her feelings but even she let out an exasperated sigh at the question. Everything was going wrong inside the Temple, that's what. She frowned slightly as Knight Archisa gave a far better balanced summation of recent happenings. It was good getting Kasumi up to speed, but none of this was helping them with their current, rather chilly, situation.

Fortunately the new Jedi (and she clearly was a Jedi) rectified their issue in a rather interesting way. The trio (and droid) went inside to get warm, when suddenly her comm link chirped back to life.

"Apologies Alyali," It was the calm and measured voice of Knight Rand. "We had a slight droid situation, but everything's perfectly all right now." There was a mischievous tone to his voice now, as he continued on. "We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?" Knight Pasholl gave the others a hard look before bringing the comm link to her lips in reply.

"We're fine, we found an...alternate method for getting through the shield." Her hard gaze fell on the body of Knight Tyrolli. "Where do you need us to be?" There was a moment of silence on the other end that went on for a beat too long causing Pasholl to think that something else had happened. "Stand fast for now, from we can tell all the droids have been taken care of save one group. We're trying to ascertain it's location now."

Pasholl shrugged, clipping the com link back to her belt. "Kasumi, is it Knight Kasumi, or Master?" Her question had a slight edge to it. "This is Knight Hochner Trevalus," she indicated the Kubaz who just a few moments earlier had been tending to Tyrolli's body. "Knight Gaan Be’orar," she pointed to the quiet, muscular human female of Mandalorian descent "And this," she shifted her attention to the female Arkanian offshoot, "is Eira Dryn."

    IC: Wardroid RS-2187 (NPC)
Tree line outside the Temple of Light, Saridona Prime

The Sentinel waited, and watched. While the other droids of the observation group had been sent inside the Temple when the shields had failed, four droids had been left behind to continue watching over the Sith's primary target. Three of those droids had been destroyed, felled by the Sith's own short orbital bombardment, but one, RS-2187, remained functional, and continued it's mission.

The droid watched as the craft fell from the sky. It had watched as one organic and one inorganic survivor emerged and were eventually met by Jedi from the Temple. RS-2187 had made no attempt at engaging any of them. Its mission was to observe and report, to avoid engagement unless as a last resort. It noted the Jedi's difficulty in regaining access through the shield, but ascribed no reasoning for it. It simply stored the data for it's eventual report. A report that it would strive to make "in person" so as to maintain radio silence.

Before it's scanning red "eye" the shield was parted by a sudden outgrowth of vegetation. The outgrowth formed an archway through which the organics and the inorganic were able to go under the shield and walk up to the Temple gates. The arch collapsed soon thereafter, but the droid concluded that such a method could prove to be a repeatable event. This was important enough to abandon the observation point. Turning around quickly, the droid ran off through the snowy woods on the way back to basecamp.

    IC: Beskaryc Taab/General Hector Zey
    Service levels, Temple of Light

Taab rounded another bend his carbine still up and ready. The sounds of shouting and clashing sabers was getting louder and louder. The battle was nearing a crescendo, and Taab would have to hurry if he was to end it. Still he couldn't run, he kept his movements swift, but smooth. If he ran, he might miss something, or someone. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. He continued on his approach.

He could hear more now, the disembodied shouts becoming more and more clear. “I could visit Lacie,” the familiar yet still unidentified voice called out “finish the job I started with Zoe.” That certainly was the Sith then, though from the shouts Taab still couldn't be sure that it was Tough Guy (Kai Dareagen) locked in combat with him, it certainly sounded like the young Jedi Inquisitor though. the sounds of battle intensified again, before going nearly silent. Taab fought the urge to run, but worried that it might be too late.

    “So goodbye Kai Dareagen.”

So it was him fighting the Sith. Taab heard the words clearly from down the darkened corridor. Up ahead he can see the shimmering green blade held over Tough Guy. Taab stopped and set his sites on the Sith Infiltraitor, mouthing the name to himself inside his buy'ce. "Slick?" (Knight Larod). Subconsciously he monitored his breathing, it wasn't a difficult shot, but wasn't clean either. Tough Guy was still in the way. The Jedi was clearly injured, defeated, but as soon as the Sith killed him, Taab would be able to drop the Sith.

That was the plan anyway. Taab could see the slumped form of the General (Hector Zey) just starting to stir along the wall. Looked like Slick had taken care of the General first, and then Tough Guy. Taab would have to be on his Aurek game if he was to be the one to end the conflict. As Slick brought his blade down on the Jedi's neck, Taab's finger moved inside the the trigger guard, prepared to press down on the trigger...

...but he never did. In that moment the Jedi's blue blade sang back to life, coming up and stopping Slick's deathblow mere inches from completion. The Jedi stood, a new found strength in him that even Taab, a being without the benefit of the Force, could see. The Jedi pushed the Sith's lightsaber back, and then in one powerful motion cleaved his head from his body. It was as glorious, and as definitive, a victory as Taab had ever seen, and his level of respect for the Jedi was immediately reassessed.

Taab lowered his carbine, and put the weapon back on safe before slinging it over his shoulder. Now he ran, rushing forward as the Victor collapsed. The Sith presence inside the Temple might have been destroyed, but the Mandalorian didn't want this valiant Jedi to be that Sith's final victim. He skidded to a halt as The General groggily stood. He was woozy, and his chest hurt a little, as did his head, but in a way things seemed so much clearer to him now. As if with the death of Darth Praedator, a great veil had been lifted. He doubted he was the only Jedi in the Temple who felt this way, they would probably all feel it. Knight Dareagen had given them a great victory, but there was still much to be done.

“You’re not done Kai.” The Jedi Grandmaster unknowingly echoed the voice Dareagen was hearing in his head, as he leaned over to help him back to his feet. Meanwhile, Taab had gone to a knee, examining the body of Darth Praedator. It would fall to him to police up the body, and the bodies of the sith's victims. But first things first. He snatched Slick's lightsaber from the dirty floor. "This isn't one of ours, he brought this with him." The markings on it were ancient, he couldn't recall seeing anything like them in the Temple Armory before. "Probably taken from a Jedi back during the war." He started to hand the weapon over to the Jedi victor. "I don't know if you take trophies or not, but you earned this." With a well practiced motion he removed his helmet and smiled, genuinely, at the young Jedi now. "You did good Kai Dareagen, you did real good."

The General's eyes widened in surprise for a moment at hearing the Mandalorian call Dareagen by name. Taab hadn't done that for any other Jedi in the Temple thus far. "He needs medical attention," that much was obvious. "Yeah, get him to the infirmary, I'll clean up the mess down here." The General nodded, and while supporting Kai's weight the pair of them started up towards the medical ward.

    IC: Alisha Tano
Location: Temple of Light Dining Hall Corridor

Alisha slowly followed after the battle party, but not before kneeling before the two fallen apprentices to pay a quick respect. Resentment against the droids tightened her grip on her lightsaber hilt, she couldn't wait to give those warmachines some well deserved payback! The four Jedi had to walk down a hallway plunged in darkness, thanks to the shot in lights.

Alisha shut her eyes and lifted her head, trying to sense anything up ahead. Nothing up close, maybe a bit further up... She suddenly heard Master Letali's lightsaber igniting, probably to give some light. An instant later, she caught something up ahead. Strangely hard, like steel instead of flesh and bone - droids? Incoming blasterfire answered her unasked question, and her eyes flew open. A bolt was flying in her direction, and Alisha ignited her weapon in desperate hope to deflect it in time...

The lightsaber dropped to the ground before it could be of any use, because a heavy weight crashed right into Alisha. "Lacie? What the-?!" she gasped out, dropping to her knees in surprise. Said surprise quickly morphed to horror and disgust at the sight of smoke gently floating up from the girl's clothes. She had been hit, square in the heart... Alisha couldn't even sense her anymore, it was so fast. "...L...LACIE!"

To think, just a short while ago they were hurling food around in the Life's Illusion, acting like playful fools! "..." Alisha's eyes went blank as she looked into Lacie's face, frozen in surprise. We were supposed to keep her safe... The sound of bolts striking the walls broke her out of the trance, and she gently lowered Lacie to the ground. Those droids are never going to fire a blaster again...! she thought, calling her lightsaber back to her hand with rage in her eyes. I... I will make SURE of it.

She reached the front with Master Letali with two running strides, and extended a hand. She "grabbed" a droid by the torso through the Force, and roughly yanked it closer. "This..." she spat in the droid's face as the green light of her blade dug deep into its chest, "...is for Lacie!" Instead of deactivating the blade and letting the dying droid flop to the ground, Alisha twisted her wrist with a sharp swing to cleave the droid in half instead. She finally eased her telekinetic grip, and tossed the burning metal remains aside.

All right, who's next to join the scrap pile? she thought, considering how well the chunks of droid would work as projectiles for the remaining set.

    IC: Kai Dareagen
Temple of Light, Saridona Prime, Lower Levels

You’re not done Kai.” The young knight’s eyes open again. The words aren’t in his head any more, the come from Master Zey. As the older Jedi help him to his feet, Kai stupidly presses his right hand into the wound on his chest. At first he tries to hiss in pain but, all that comes out is a cough. A bit of blood seeps out from the corner of his mouth. It hurts to breathe but, he pushes though. He doesn’t know if the voice in his head was just a misfiring of his neurons, or the Force itself talking to him but, he knew this wasn’t his end.

"This isn't one of ours, he brought this with him." Sithspawn says picking up the lightsaber Praedator had been using. "Probably taken from a Jedi back during the war." He starts offering the weapon to Kai, saying, "I don't know if you take trophies or not, but you earned this." The knight begins to reach out his hand when he sees the Mandalorian remove his helmet. For the first time he sees the face of the man in armor. It is old and weathered showing signs of a hard life. On it is a smile that looks… genuine, not plastered on, not forced, just natural. "You did good Kai Dareagen, you did real good." Kai’s hand stops. He called him by his real name, not ‘Meat’, not ‘Tough Guy’, just Kai. A weak smile blooms on his face. He reaches his hand forward and clasps it, limply, around the other man’s forearm.

“Thank you… Taab.” As he pulls his hand away, leaving a bloody streak on Taab’s armor, he takes the offered lightsaber. Maybe now it could be put to good use, or maybe it shouldn’t be used at all. Those were matters for a different time. He reaches out his other hand to call his own lightsaber to it. He can feel the Force around it; it is as familiar as his own hand. He wills it to come to him but, it doesn’t budge. He takes a deep painful breath and tries again. Slowly the weapon he’d carried since he was a youngling, made of so many borrowed parts he thought it’d never work, lifts into his extended hand. He stations it in its place, on his belt, while carrying the other saber in his right hand. Putting an arm over Zey’s shoulders he gives Taab a look. He’d disliked, even at times hated the Mandalorian but, in that moment he felt nothing but respect. Maybe some Mandos could be trusted, maybe some could be noble.

"Yeah, get him to the infirmary, I'll clean up the mess down here." Kai chuckles a bit, it hurt to do so but, he couldn’t stop himself. Just like that the Merc was back to business. Leaning heavily on the Grandmaster they made their way towards the infirmary. Kai hopes this is the beginning of the end for this engagement. The darkness within had been vanquished, but at a steep cost. Were the remaining Jedi in the temple enough to take on the army waiting for them? All Kai knows is that he’ll need time to heal, he just wants to heal fast enough to be there when these Knights kick the Sith off their planet.

    To an untrained eye, Ian appeared unharmed, much to Tim's relief. Best to check, though;

"That was very well done, Ian!"; he said; "Are you OK?".

He was reaching for his issue Comlink when his own declared a text message had arrived. Looking at it, he saw it had - in fact - received two messages; the earliest reporting that the TCC had failed to respond to a request for a Shield-gap from Jedi apparently outside the Temple, and the second saying that normal communications had been resumed - albeit with some very peculiar phrasing!

He swapped Comlinks and spoke; "Tim Battershell to TCC.... Four War Droids intercepted and destroyed near Service Areas in Temple Sublevels; probably targeting the Power Grid again. Please advise other Hunters that a Blaster Powerpack, set to overload and telekinetically dropped down the back of their necks is an effective tactic. New instructions, please!".

While speaking, he became aware of a strong Lightside Force-signature coming closer, then its owner - Master Piim - came into view. She took in the battle-debris with a sweeping glance and said; "Well done you two.... But surely you know as padawans you'll have to clean up after yourselves.". The tone of her voice and the wink accompanying the remark suggesting that she was not entirely serious.

    After bowing deeply to the Master, he replied;

"Gladly, Master, if I can retain a head and a torso for research and study purposes? Also the two arms I've put aside as upgrades for my ASP Training Droids? What of the remaining pieces? I don't know of any 'useful junk' room in the Temple, but then I’m a relatively recent arrival; haven't had time to really explore.

If I might ask you to bring a couple of suggestions before the Council, please? First a top-to-bottom sweep of the Temple; make absolutely sure we don’t have any ‘stay-behind parties’ left over to cause trouble when we’re no longer expecting it; and second; a reasonably covert reconnaissance to find and fix where the Sith have got to - possibly using the opportunity to deliver an unmistakable ‘Leave Now!’ message."

Kasha watched as Letali lit lightsaber as the lights went out again. Blasts were seen flying at Letali. She turned on her lightsaber with a snap hiss. Aqua blue light filled the hallway from her blade. “That’s one way of getting their attention,” she said as Lacie let out a surprised gasp falling to the ground. Another blaster bolt made it's way towards her as she blocked it with her blade. The bolt bounced off her blade and flew back at it's owner impacting harmlessly on the droid. “Lacie,” she yelled out as Tano leaped forward taking the first war droid out leaving three more to deal with.

Kasha looked up as another war droid rushed passed Tano. She ran forward with her lightsaber in front of her as she blocked two more blasts. But the blasts still didn't hit the neck, she would need to be lined up to be able to take them out like that, as she met the droid face to face she pushed her blade right through the face of the droid as it collapsed to the ground . Two down two left. “Letali, check on Lacie. She was hit hard. Tano and I will take out the other two droids.”

    IC: Kasumi (and Buddy)
    Near the Southern Entrance

Kasumi heard the mournful whistle of her friend as she knelt down by the fallen Knight. She uncovered the face of the fallen one, and gently touched their cheek. She hoped that they were able to become one with the Force. As she touched the cheek, she felt another hand on hers….and she looked up to see the Force Ghost of her Master, Master Aayla.

Let it all go. This is like reliving it again for you. In order to not succumb to the darkness that is here, you have to let the pain go. You showed part of your power. Let the guard down, but do not show every power you have yet.

With that the Force Ghost left. Kasumi closed her eyes. She felt the pain of losing her first Master to order 66. She flashed back to seeing the dead younglings in the halls of the Temple. True it was only from video, but that was enough for her. She felt the pain of losing her homeworld at the hands of Vader, and the silence it caused in the Force. She felt the pain of losing her brother during the final stand with the Empire as he had found his way to Leia’s side early on. She felt the pain of losing her friends only to be frozen in this shell of carbonite to awaken to this….another war. It had been the will of the Force for her to stay in hibernation, so it was the will of the Force for her to be here. She let the pain subside as she thought of the honor she brought with her from the Temple where she trained, the honor of the Jedi Order, the honor of her Masters, the honor of her homeworld, and the honor of her family.

You know I’m not far sis. Remember you are the daughter of a Forest Walker, you are the sister of a stubborn force sensitive, and you are a child of Alderaan.

Her brother…always close to her even after his was gone. He was a force sensitive as she was, but he gave his spot up at the Temple for her. It was only around him when she was little that she showed her true ability, and he knew in his heart she would be a better Jedi than he. So, when she was five she was taken from her home to the Temple to begin her training.

Trust them you must. Right Aayla is.

The last voice was her final Master, Master Yoda. Their final communication was his final act of bestoying upon her the rank of Master for her skills within the Force. It was an honor that was bitter sweet to her. Even though she was a Master, Yoda also knew that she would continue to better herself within the Force, continue to strive to learn all she could about what she could, and that was unique to her. Maybe that is why the Force directed her to do what she did. Maybe she was the best at adapting to were she was, and what was what was needed.

Kasumi heard the question as she stood up again. They would be some of the few that would know her true title. She nodded to each person as they were introduced to her. Kasumi let her walls down entirely. All Force sensitives would be able to know where she was and how connected she was with the Force, but she did hide her other powers. Besides what they saw earlier was just a small taste of what she could do.

“Master Kasumi, but Kasumi is just fine.”

aftermath of a droid hunt, Temple of Light, Saridona Prime.

"That was very well done, Ian!" Ian looked around, excitedly. That had been such a rush! "Are you OK?" Ian belatedly patted himself down. He hadn't felt anything, but with how he was feeling right now he wasn't sure if he even would feel any pain. His impromtu self examination found no injures. "I...I think so." His face still had a bewildered look, mixed with amazement and excitement plastered all over it. He didn't even notice Padawan Battershell speaking over his comm link until Master Piim's sudden arrival caused a moment of panic for Ian which soon subsided.

"Well done you two.... But surely you know as padawans you'll have to clean up after yourselves."

Aww man. He already had to clean up a couple of freshers that weren't his, now he was going to have to clean this up too? He shrugged, there was no use arguing it. Besides, it was a good reminder of what he had done! And maybe having to clean up the droids would get him out of having to clean up freshers. Take that Lacie and Alisha! He looked down at the floor for a moment, wondering how they were doing.

"Gladly, Master, if I can retain a head and a torso for research and study purposes? Also the two arms I've put aside as upgrades for my ASP Training Droids? What of the remaining pieces? I don't know of any 'useful junk' room in the Temple, but then I’m a relatively recent arrival; haven't had time to really explore."

That sounded so prudent, and yet rather ghastly. Who would want a droid with an arm that didn't really match?

"If I might ask you to bring a couple of suggestions before the Council, please? First a top-to-bottom sweep of the Temple; make absolutely sure we don’t have any ‘stay-behind parties’ left over to cause trouble when we’re no longer expecting it; and second; a reasonably covert reconnaissance to find and fix where the Sith have got to - possibly using the opportunity to deliver an unmistakable ‘Leave Now!’ message."

Now that last part was something Ian could get behind, but he really didn't want to be on any more droid hunts. This had been enough excitement for him for one day. Maybe being forced to clean up was a good thing.

Having no immediate further need of them, Tim replaced both ComLink and Lightsaber in their normal 'carry' positions on his utility belt. A further thought prompted him to remove his DataPad and locate a particular file.

He recognised Ian's current condition as typical of 'Post Combat Euphoria' - or so ASF termed it - he'd seen the look often enough on Rookie Officers after they'd returned from their first raid - provided it had been 'clean' (meaning a successful outcome with no friendly casualties).

Tim was pleased to hear Ian reply; "I think so."; to the welfare enquiry; and was just about to add himself to the 'unscathed' list when he noticed a slight wrongness in his peripheral vision. A more detailed examination revealed that his Padawan braid was about six centimetres shorter than previously! Close one! There was no sign of the missing portion on the floor; probably cut and vaporised in one, he thought.

Ian would learn soon enough, if he didn't already know intellectually, that combat victories virtually always came at a price.... And no one yet knew how large the 'Butcher's Bill' (another ASF expression) for this latest Sith-inspired attack was.

Even though the Jedi Code stated "There is no death; there is the Force", and anecdotal evidence from Luke, Kyle - and, to a degree, Corran - supported that viewpoint; Tim did not believe that any compassionate sentient could fail to regret the lost potential of those who had 'fallen before their time'. Surely 'Crude Matter' had its place? Purely physical threats required purely physical opposition, didn’t they? Didn’t succeeding generations need training from living beings, to the point when they could, in turn, 'pass on what they had learned'?

Addressing Master Piim again, he said; "I doubt Ian is one for 'blowing his own Kloo-horn', as the expression goes, Master, so could you let his Master know that Ian used the 'Alter Position' Power with a good degree of control to set things up perfectly for us here, please?. One Droid completely destroyed and another crippled for the price of one Carbine Powerpack! I've already reported in to the TCC and informed them of the tactic.

Regarding the 'reasonably covert reconnaissance' I mentioned, I had in mind using the Paramilitary version of one of these",; here he showed Master Piim, then Ian, the image-file he'd called up:
They're virtually undetectable at night and have a cruising radius of around 500 kliks, at about 150 kliks per hour. Carry a spare Powerpack and a portable recharge unit for extended-range operations too. Agamar Security Force use them for Surveillance and Raiding, while the Civilian version is a popular cheap alternative to an Airspeeder for various functions, including personal recreation. Civilians can't usually access the ASF type, but I home-built the first Thrust-Sailer to fly on Agamar and was involved with the design group that developed the Paramilitary model. I've one of each, plus spare sails and one of the special flight-suits used with the ASF version, aboard my ship.

Actually, all I did was add a Thrust-unit to a pre-existing piece of recreational low-technology but it seems nobody else had ever thought of doing that, so the Agamarian Council credited me with 'inventing' it. My original was a really cranky contraption but the fees for licensing its further development and finished-design sales put me through University!"

Two are still standing... Alisha held her blade close to her face, making her skin appear green instead of the natural orange. ...but not for long.

One droid stood a few meters away from its bisected companion, and lifted it's blaster to fire as Alisha outstretched a hand toward the pieces of droid on the ground. The chunk of a metal torso took several laser bolts before she finally cast it at full speed for the shooter's head. Even after the head spun in a complete circle after the impact, it remained standing and began to heft its blaster again.

"Oh no you don't!" Alisha shouted, hurling the remaining legs on the ground at the droid's feet. It flopped forward onto where it's stomach would be, and the waiting Jedi pounced. Lifting it in the air through the Force, she rushed forward to cleave the helpless droid in half from the top of it's head down. Burning metal fell to the ground around her with dull crashes, and Alisha nearly missed the last surviving droid rush her.

Too close, too close! Caught by surprise, Alisha reared her arm back to swing again, but the droid caught her wrist in a lucky grab. "Ow...!" she hissed out, feeling it's claws fighting the cloth of her sleeve to her skin. She tried grabbing her saber with her other hand, but the droid just had to squeeze her wrist before it was dropped to the ground. She exchanged a furious look with the glowing red eyes of her "captor", with a silent vow to grind it to dust.

She watched the eyes blink out as a blade tore into it's torso, and then the droid grabbing her was reduced to a forearm and hand. It loosened easily, and fell to the ground. Ruefully, she noticed that the bottom of her sleeve was shredded, and tugged it down to reveal several straight scratches across the skin of her wrist.

It stung fiercely, but it was nowhere near as bad as the blow Master Lycar had taken from those stupid things... "Th, thank you Master," she nodded gratefully to Master Sherland, accepting her returned weapon, "Please don't worry about me, I'm okay..." she replied, returning it to her belt and lying a palm flat against the cuts for pressure. As she held her wrist, her glance happened to rest on the fallen droid's head. Her anger flared up again, and she was sorely tempted to slam her boot down on top of it to make good of her vow. Taking a deep breath to calm down, she quickly finished, "My wrist stings a bit, but I'm way more worried about Lacie!"

    Please be alive, Lacie please...!

    IC: Hochner Trevalus
    Temple of Light, South Entrance

Saying a few final gurgling words over the departed Jedi, he stood and looked to the two who had returned without having the comm center deactivate the shields. Troubling. It felt like the Force stirred at this thought, but as soon as it did it fell away, and once more he was left the old question he had so often asked as a child 'If the Force is a living thing and all present, why can't it learn basic?' Not that his masters had ever had a better answer than to try to meditate or go clean something. Something which now made him shake his head as his trunk faintly curled in a grim smile. The past was funny that way, the saddest thing could hold a hint of the humor of life or youth in it.

As the one introduced the new comer and him and others to her and her droid, Hochner tilted his head as he bowed before giving a slightly more formal bow when she had indicated her rank. "It is a privilege. If our numbers continue to grow as the rain this world shall soon be a beacon to chase back the darkness. Still we survive and thank the Force for those rescued that left before this new dark time." Looking to the droid he buzzed softly, considering for a moment her droid. "Welcome, it is nice to have a new R-unit in the Temple, but until you are checked out, please refrain from attempting to access any data ports. With some enemy droids still in the temple I would not want a security measure to wipe or fry your circuits." with a soft small nod he turned back to look at the blast damage in the hall.

Everything was a little too much at the moment. Death. Life. And the roiling as the Force, even yet a sense of fresh air seemed to be sweeping over them now, and he breathed deep with hands open wide. The temple had not felt so clean since he had returned, and as he smiled deeply with trunk tightly curled he buzzed softly to himself. For until now he worried it was himself that was off, but now it was clear the sith was the taint clinging to his robes. Not the dark crystal he was sure still lingering in his clouded mind.

"My wrist stings a bit, but I'm way more worried about Lacie!"

Being a mother she was always prepared for cuts and bruises, she pulled out a bacta pressure bandage from her belt as she took a hold of Tano's wrist and examined it. "Let me know if it hurts when I'm doing this," she spoke as she proceeded to wrap the bandage around her wrist. "There is bacta ointment on this bandage so it should help with the pain a little. It's also pressured so it should stop any bleeding. We do need to check on Lacie after."

Hopefully the girl was still alive but she had a feeling she got a direct hit on a major organ.

    IC: Knight Letali (NPC)
    Dining Hall, Temple of Light

With the droid threat decisively dealt with, Knight Letali extinguished her lightsaber and knelt down next to padawan Lacie, checking her vitals. There was no need of course, just one look at her told the story. The young woman was dead. She inhaled and exhaled slowly, calming her nerves as Knight Sherland gave basic first aid to padawan Tano.

"...We do need to check on Lacie after."

Letali stood and shook her head mournfully. "There is nothing we can do, she's dead."

"I doubt Ian is one for 'blowing his own Kloo-horn', as the expression goes, Master, so could you let his Master know that Ian used the 'Alter Position' Power with a good degree of control to set things up perfectly for us here, please?. One Droid completely destroyed and another crippled for the price of one Carbine Powerpack! I've already reported in to the TCC and informed them of the tactic."

Master Piim smiled at padawan Battershell's report. Padawan Thrace had not had the easiest time of it lately. It bode well to see him succeed, and be commended for it. She bowed in appreciation to the younger of the two padawans. "Well done!" Battershell wasn't done yet though.

"Regarding the 'reasonably covert reconnaissance' I mentioned, I had in mind using the Paramilitary version of one of these." He showed her an image of the device he was talking about. It looked actually, rather like fun, though she wasn't sure as to it's martial capability. Padawan Battershell explained further.

"They're virtually undetectable at night and have a cruising radius of around 500 kliks, at about 150 kliks per hour. I've one of each, plus spare sails and one of the special flight-suits used with the ASF version, aboard my ship."

It might prove useful here, but Piim wasn't ready to make that call just yet. They had to ascertain just how badly they themselves had been hurt.

"I will bring your idea to the Council when next we meet padawan." She nodded sagely to him. "Until then would the two of you start gathering together this..."she pointed about to the scattered wreckage of war droids. "...debris." She paused in thought for a moment before continuing on. "I'm sure the Major will want to look it over. We'll store it all in cargo bay two until he has a chance to sort it out."

""Until then would the two of you start gathering together this.... debris.... I'm sure the Major will want to look it over. We'll store it all in cargo bay two until he has a chance to sort it out."; Master Piim directed.

"Yes, Master."; Tim said, giving a respectful bow; "Though I suspect Major Taab won't find anything of interest - they look like typical examples of mass-production from the same template to me.

Ian, I suggest we collect a repulsor-pallet from my ship and do the whole job in one go, rather than try to hand-carry the wreckage piecemeal. What do you think? Give us a chance to check on those other two Padawans, particularly the injured one, as well.

It's not a combat-related injury, Master, the young fool ran right into one of the ship's built-in defences. Unless my Med-Droid has released him, he'll still be in the Illusion's MedBay. Maybe a transfer to the Temple's own facility would be beneficial, if they have space? You're welcome to come with us, if you like. Just stay close to me as you go up the ramp.... that's what he didn't do!"

Tim expected Master Piim had seen and noted the 'food-fight' evidence on Ian's clothing and person, but wasn't going to risk embarrassing him by making an open reference to it in front of her. He also knew he could clear up the battle-wrack on his own, while Ian - and his clothing - enjoyed their own versions of a Sanisteam.

"Uh..." Alisha felt a faint blush in her cheek, but didn't protest as Master Sherland took hold of her wrist. The ring of cuts were an irritated red, but thankfully no bleeding. This is...almost embarrassing, she thought, I feel like such a little kid right now! What was that dumb nickname she had been given again, "Momma"? She'd never admit it to the Mando's face, but it definitely fit well... She winced as the cold bacta touched her reddened skin, but relaxed soon after as the cold chased away the lingering pain. "Thank you, Master..."

Master Letali stood up after checking on Lacie, and the look in her eyes was more than enough. The Padawan really was gone... Alisha's eyes went wide, and she rushed back to them. "No..." she faintly whispered, "Lacie...!" Just a minute ago, she was standing right here...walking beside me! And just before that, we were making a mess of Master Battershell's ship. It's not fair...

She sank to her knees before Lacie's body, but didn't make a move further. I was too slow! she thought, as she tightened a fist against the ground. I, I'm so sorry, Lacie...

She felt the same guilt rush off her as she felt with Anakin the day he lost his sister during the Sith attack at Ossis. She walked to Alisha's side and placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. "There is nothing you could've done. She wouldn't want you to feel guilty over it. It happened fast giving no one a chance to react. Take heart, Alisha, its the cost of war. Alisha weakly lifted her head at the feeling of a touch on her shoulder, trying to blink away a tear. "But Master...!" she sent a pained look back to Lacie's face, and tried in vain to finish her sentence. It's just not fair! First her roomate faces a Sith butcher, and now she... "She was...supposed to be protected...I couldn't-!" What sort of "guardian" couldn't defend against a simple blaster bolt? More than that, what kind of protecting could she have done from her position at the back?! ...some "guardian" I am. I should have been the one in front instead of Lacie! Maybe...she'd still be with us if I was...

She took a shuddering breath, but got up to one knee. I know we shouldn't linger, but... The 'cost of war' Master Sherland had said, that was a price that nobody should be forced to pay! Especially a girl reeling from a devastating loss just hours before herself! Alisha felt her hand go for her lightsaber hilt again, and attempted to placate her grief at the prospect of "repaying" every War Droid that wandered the halls with 150% interest. Yes...mourning would have to wait, until every single one of those warmachines was reduced to scrap metal and parts!

"I just...hope she can-" Alisha swiped her torn sleeve against her eyes, and stood up to shakily finish. "...see Zoe again." With that, she forced herself to look down the darkened hallway, waiting for the sound of more blasterfire.

"I'm sure the two are getting caught up now," Kasha reassured in a gentle tone. "When my husband lost his sister during the first attack on Ossis we both felt guilty about it. Anna was doing her job as a Jedi. A padawan was in trouble during the attack and he was barely a beginner and I was more advanced. I came to the padawan's rescue facing the Sith allowing the kid to get away. Anna came to my rescue and told me to run and not look back. I did. Just as the ramp was closing up she was struck down by the Sith and she was already knighted. Anakin witnessed his sister getting killed. I felt immensely guilty, Anakin reminded me that she was doing her duty as a Jedi. Even though it hurt him, Anna sacrificed herself so that Anakin and I could be together. Anakin wouldn't admit it, but I sensed guilt coming off him too. Anna appeared to both of us and told me not to feel guilty and she did it so we can be together. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have survived and given birth to two beautiful children. Lacie knew what the consequences were and what could happen. Don't feel guilty over something that was beyond your control."

    Interlude

    IC: Darth Cavillous (NPC)
Bridge, Star Destroyer Hellfire, in orbit over Saridona Prime

The main lights had gone out on the bridge again and now red emergency lighting illuminated the face of Darth Cavillous. As with elsewhere, power aboard the ship was scarce. The need to maintain the shields was draining the vessel's already perilously low power reserves, but they were necessary to keep the Jedi below at bay. He could always order the Hellfire away, but he needed to maintain the siege. They would crack eventually under the constant pressure. They would have to.

Things were going more or less according to his plan, a few snags here and there, delays that were irksome, but not catastrophic. Not even the loss of Praedator, which he had felt with not a small degree of alarm. He wondered if the great Darth Sidious ever felt this way, so eager, so mindful of the future, and yet with just enough of a hint of uncertainty to be bothersome. He was the maestro, conducting his symphony. Their every sound, every movement, a result of his, his, design. Yes every now and again it seemed the someone, somewhere, hit a flat note, but he could compensate. Everyone down on the planet below, the Sith who were his "followers", and the Jedi who all die by their blades were playing by his tune.

There was movement from the being who knelt in front of him, a slight stirring. Lost in his own thoughts the Dark Lord had nearly forgotten about him. The young male, so strong in the force, and so previously misguided, had felt the Sith's uncertainty, and the lack of focus that accompanied it. Cavillous felt within him the desire to take advantage of the brief moment of vulnerability, but he still had use of Cavillous, as he did of him. Excellent, this one had promise.

He turned his attention back to him "Rise, my apprentice. You are ready to begin."

    IC: Darth Zelus (NPC)
    Sith Basecamp, Saridona Prime

Zelus sat alone by the fire, trying to warm herself, in the early dawn glow of the sun. The others were huddled around their own fire, content to leave her be. They had all felt the death of Darth Praedator in the force, and they had all reacted to it in their own way.

Velerius had been barely able to conceal the smile denoting her smug satisfaction that her main "competitor" in their sect, the one whose skill set most closely matched her own, had finally been discovered. She believed her own powers of concealment greatly outstripped those of Praedator, and now with him dead, and her alive, she believed she had been proven right. Even if it cost her the best chance at being reunited with her "friend" Sixtus.

Veneficus seemed more dismayed. He needed for the Temple to be taken nearly intact, and for the bodies of the dead Jedi to be nearly so, for his experiments to continue. The best way to accomplish that was for the shields to be brought down from the inside. The loss of Praedator was a huge blow to his own concerns, now storming the Temple would be that much more difficult.

Zelus found her thinking more in line with that of Veneficus for the moment, though she was nearly as shocked as he was at the death. She had always thought of Praedator as weak, but skilled more perhaps than any mere Jedi and it did give her pause that he was somehow killed without accomplishing his mission. No doubt he had been overwhelmed by superior numbers, something which was a danger to them all here. So many Jedi, so few Sith. It was only the power of the Dark Side, and the numerical superiority of their wardroid army that helped to even the odds.

One of those wardroids approached her now, the red stripe across it's chrome colored chest testament that this was one of the scouts she had ordered to remain outside the Temple and observe. What was it doing back here now?

"This unit has discovered a possible weakness in the Temple's shields," it informed her in a hollow sounding monotone. "Show me," the Sith Lady ordered, her interest sparking the curiosity of the other Sith who abandoned their own campfire to join her's now. The droid complied, displaying a holo recording of Master Kasumi's (though none of them knew her name) stunning solution to her own similar problem of gaining access to the Temple.

"Now that's interesting," Zelus said, a gleam in her eyes as the other Sith also smiled. "That's very interesting."

"Work smarter, not harder. I like that."; Ian said, then leaned in closer and whispered; "Maybe I could get a quick shower while we're back there too?" .

Tim had no need to whisper his response as it applied to both remarks; "Two minds thinking along exactly the same lines, Ian! I hope we'll have more to do with each other in the future. You seem to know about sleight of hand, something I think all the Guardians should learn, but do you know any of the other Illusionists' arts, like".... "Ventriloquism, also called 'throwing one's voice', for instance?". The last eight words seemed to come from the Lightsaber on the right-hand side of Tim's Utility Belt and were in a much deeper tone than his normal speaking voice. Also, Tim's lips, although slightly parted, were completely still!

"Another handy little trick that could help a Jedi out of a tight situation! Both tricks work just fine in a Ysalamiri-produced Force-void, too!".

    About one hour later...

IC: Beskaryc Taab/General Hector Zey/Master Piim (NPC)
    Council Chambers, Temple of Light

The atmosphere in the Council chamber was serious, yet optimistic. With the death of Darth Praedator the sense of impending doom that had been hanging over the Temple had been lifted. No longer was another Jedi suspected of being the enemy. No longer did the Jedi inside the Temple need to cast suspicious gazes upon one another, or wonder if the one next to them might slip a vibroblade between their ribs. That wasn't to say that all their worries had been solved. There were still the Sith planet side to deal with, and of course the Hellfire in orbit above. Before those plans could be made though, the Jedi needed to now how badly they had been hurt by Praedator and the most recent droid invasion. Taab was in the midst of that briefing now.

"Temple's power and security grid are up and running fine now," the others could have probably seen that on their own. The lights had last flickered over half an hour ago now. "Security sweeps are ongoing, Jedi Knights in pairs comming in to the TCC at 10 minute intervals." Taab had wanted only five minutes between comm checks and reports, but the TCC staff couldn't keep up with that, so instead they had gone to staggered 10 minute reports instead. "Nothing to report there. Looks like 24 of those wardroids managed to get inside the Temple," the briefing went on. "They split up into groups of four and attacked several key areas like the Command Center and main hanger, as well as soft targets like the infirmary and DFAC." He nodded to himself, the lights reflecting off of his faceplate. "All 24 droids were destroyed though we took our licks too."

The Mandalorian paused again as The General (Hector Zey) nodded respectfully, not respect for Taab, but for the fallen, wounded and dead. "Five padawans were killed by droids during the attack and we also lost four Knights, two to the Sith judging by the lightsaber wounds, and two others to the droids." He left unsaid the circumstances of their deaths. Most had fallen without ever having a chance to defend themselves against the wardroids.

"I also have to note that we are down another Jedi Knight in our count as the Sith ,Slick... Larod, was counted on our roster there. I've interviewed the Sith in the the stockade and presented them with his head. They both confirmed that it was their ally." He paused again, as if reading off of a list, which he was, as it scrolled across the HUD in his buy'ce (helmet). "Small number of wounded. The most significant being Knight Kai Dareagen," (Zey noted the use of the man's name again as opposed to any sort of nickname) "and Spitfire (Lenea Sandstrider) who are both continuing to recuperate in the infirmary. It could have been worse." He sighed and looked over to Turncoat (Suraya Archisa), Future (Hochner Trevalus), and Scars (Eira Dryn). "I hope you got more out of them when you interrogated them, because that's all they would confirm with me." He nodded one last time at the assembled council as he concluded his report and moved off to the side of the chamber.

"It is not all bad news," Zey stood now, getting up from his chair. "We defeated the Sith in our midst, we have consolidated our own position and in the plus column, the force has brought us Master Kasumi to bolster our numbers." He gestured towards her to introduce herself to the council and tell her own story. "We have shown these Sith that we won't be forced from our home here."

He cracked an arrogant smile. "Now we need to go on the offensive," He gestured again to Taab who looked like he had been waiting for this. Zey sat back down and the Mandalorian again stepped forward as the lights in the room dimmed slightly. He touched his gauntlet and a hologram projected from it. A topographical hologram of the Temple and surrounding area as seen from above.

"We know the Sith dropships have landed a rather largish force of those wardroids, maybe several thousand though we don't have an exact count, on the planetary surface several kilomters to our southwest." He indicated the topography the ships had come down in. "As you can see they've landed in a river valley at the base of a large mountain in which we know there to be a signifigant cave complex. The Sith are likely to have established their planetside base within that cave system." The Jedi could also see that most of the surrounding area was dense forrest, though there were several clearings.

The General now spoke again. "As you all know, we have heard from our prisoners that the access codes to bring down the Hellfire's shields are known but to a single member of the Sith contingent planet side, this Darth Zelus." He took in a deep breath. "I am asking Major Taab to show us these holos because I believe our best opportunity to rid us of the current threat is to storm these caves, capture Zelus and force her to give us the codes." Master Piim drew her own sharp breath at that, though she raised no immediate objection. "Once we have the codes, we use them, to gain access to the Hellfire, rescue our fellow Jedi held in carbon freeze aboard, and destroy the vessel." He nodded to Knight Sherland who had proposed much the same course of action before Darth Preadator had been killed. Then they had that matter to deal with, but now that the internal Sith threat had been disposed of...

    "Continue Major."

    Taab nodded again.

"Storming the caves will be no easy task, as I said there are probably thousands of those war droids, as well as several Sith." He looked to the group that had been interrogating their prisoners, maybe they would know more as to how many actual Sith they were dealing with. "Even getting there will be a task in and of itself." He tapped at his gauntlet again and the holo zoomed in slightly on the area the Sith had situated themselves in. "The valley leading up to the mountain and caves is a long river valley that eventually broadens out to a flood plain." He shifted the holo again showing the enemy held valley, the flood plain and points further north. "By heading southeast down the Valley of Light," he traced the route with a laser pointer, "we'll find a series of mountain passes." He pointed two of those out now, "Those will lead us onto that floodplain well south of the caves." He pointed to the river in the middle of the plain and traced it back up the river valley. "We then follow the river northwest to it's closest point near the caves, just over a kilometer distant."

He deactivated the laser pointer, though the holo still floated above all their heads. "Those early mountain passes are easy ambush sites, though we can get speeder bikes through there." He sounded confidant. "Likewise the flood plain itself is pretty wide open, lots of room to maneuver plus the bikes will make good progress." He almost sounded eager now. "Farther upriver the terrain turns to heavy forest and that will slow us down considerably. We may even be forced to abandon the speeder bikes and walk at that point."

The General was enthralled, studying the map over them, but it was the Peacemaker (Master Piim) who asked a simple question. "Is this the only route?" Taab, it seemed, had been expecting that too. He shook his head. "No, as you can see that route is rather long, it would take most of a day to arrive at the Sith camp, even with using speeder bikes to hurry us along. There is a shorter route, but it has it's own dangers."

"If you would please, show us that route."

Taab nodded and again the holomap shifted. "Through a series of mountain passes we could head directly southwest to the Sith held caves." The General's head perked up at that. "Again, the nearest of them would bring us to a point roughly a kilometer from those caves." The laser pointer was active again, showing where the Jedi would begin their final assault from, a point closer to the caves actually than the first option Taab had presented. "The issue though is getting through those mountain passes." He shifted the view out slightly and could see the General nodding along to Taab's assessment. "There are several easy chokepoints along the way," he pointed out the three easy and obvious ambush sites, along with two other sites where the Jedi would get bunched up.

"This path follows very rough terrain, we would have to walk most of it. Speeder bikes would get bogged down as we'd have to clear our own path at times." Taab felt the General's eyes on him, the Jedi saw the most obvious problem as well. "Worse still, the paths that do exist are quite narrow. Any Jedi group forcing their way down them would be strung out along their length and be unable to support one another until we came out near the caves to organize our assault."

"Have you made any reconnaissance along either of these two routes?" The Peacemaker now asked. "Padawan Battersehll has some ideas regarding that."

Taab regarded her for a long moment before replying. "We've got a couple of old Viper type probe droids that are being prepped right now." He looked at the General. "Just awaiting the go order for recon." The General nodded before gesturing that Taab should carry on.

"There is another way to get our people to those caves." Taab had saved this for last, it was the route he would take if this were a group of Mandalorian soldiers. They could just jetpack over the mountain passes and attack the caves directly. That wasn't an option here, but there was a close substitute. "We launch an airborne assault." He paused as he marked out the series of clearings very close to the caves. "We can use shuttles or other light craft to fly over the mountains and disembark right on top of the cave's entrance." The points he marked were much closer to the cave entrance than the overland routes would have put them.

"Enemy air defenses are unknown, but we need to remember that those drop ships seemed to double as anti-aircraft emplacements once they landed and the Sith have landed dozens of them outside the caves. We may need fighters to perform a SEAD mission." He stopped again before explaining, "that's Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses, taking out those guns before they can hit our transports. Even so, it will get bloody."

The Mandalorian deactivated the holomap as the General nodded to him one last time. "Thank you Major, you are dismissed." The lights came back up to their previous levels. "It seems that if we are to attack these caves we have some decisions to..." Taab went to leave, but spoke once more.

"One more thing, that Sith starship up there will see any movement we make, easier to see large movements than small, and easier to note a shuttle launch as apposed to speeder bikes or people. If the Hellfire sees us leaving it will tell the Sith on the ground that we are coming."

    Medical bay, Temple of Light

Serjon gave the droid equivalent of a sigh watching padawan Abyo being carried into the Medical bay by padawans Battershell and Thrace. Things were getting crowded here and Healer Susruta was still looking over Knight Dareagen. The Jedi had been brought in by the Grandmaster, who had left soon thereafter without a word. The Jedi Knight had been severely wounded, but the look on Susruta's Ithorian face was all Serjon needed to see that the young man would survive his injuries.

The droid left the side of padawan Tano and went to examine Abyo. The Togruta had arrived shortly after the grandmaster had left. Her injuries were minor, and basic steps had already been taken to patch her up. She would be fine. So too would padawan Abyo, though he required a few days of bed rest. There were other minor injuries among other Jedi too, but they had already been treated and released. That left Lenea Sandstrider still in her force induced healing trance.

Daniel Sandstrider hadn't left her side since she had been brought in of course. Not even the prospect of a Council meeting was cause to abandon his vigil over her. Serjon had her immersed in a bacta tank now, that aided by the trance would heal her wounds quickly.

"Padawan Tano," the droid spoke. "You're free to go now, but I implore you to take it easy over the next few days." The droid looked pointedly at padawan Thrace before contining on with the Togruta. "I would not want to see you become a permanant resident of this facility."

There was a slight cough from Healer Susruta at that. "Padawan Tano if you are able," The Ithorian looked over at Thrace and Battershell, "and you two as well. I could use your help in looking over the patients for now." He gestured towards Daniel, even though he wasn't a patient. The man had no physical injuries though he was clearly affected by his sister's condition. "Kai especially." He was injured and everything was being done medically for him. Both men though could use someone to talk to right now Susruta was sure, and these padawans fit the bill

    IC: Kai Dareagen
    ???

Kai,” The voice is familiar but, out of place, “Kai, time to get up.” Kai didn’t feel himself opening his eyes but, all at once he sees where he is. It is his room back in the Jedi Temple on Ossus. When did he get here, had the other Jedi been successful? “Come on, you can’t stay in bed all day.” He turns his vision to the voice, piercing blue eyes look back at him. Something stirs in the young man’s chest as he looks upon the beautiful face of Arca Serran. It’s a feeling he could never admit to her, he’s too afraid of what she would say, too afraid of ruining the friendship they’ve built. Her red-brown hair is pulled into a tight bun and, even thought her tunic was a dull grey color it only added to her beauty. He opens his mouth to speak but, is cut off,

Arise Kai,” the voice is deeper and more refined than his own, “Master Sarr requests our presence.” The knight’s gaze shifts to a being in the door way, Connis Wallon his other friend, almost a brother. He’s a little taller than Kai and a little older. His messy blonde hair is cut close on the sides and back of his head but, the hair about the crown is grown out to an average length for a human male. It is a particular style that he says is a common type of cut on his homeworld. “I shall not continue to make excuses for you, now get your body out of bed.” His tan tunic and pants were a traditional Jedi garb, but his left arm gave him an asymmetrical look. The sleeve is a rusty red and a bantha hide glove covers the area from the tips of his fingers to just below his elbow, another fashion from his homeworld, a shield gauntlet. “I do not wish to take more drastic measures my friend.” he continues, “But, I will if you remain under your covers.

You’ve gotten enough rest,” Arca says, drawing Kai’s attention again. “Time to get up.

"Kai especially." A new voice says as the young man comes back to consciousness, this was possibly the second or third time he’d fallen unconscious since Grandmaster Zey brought him to the med ward. He tries to sit up but, the pain from his wounds puts his head right back down on his pillow. It still hurt to breath but, not as much. Looking down at his chest he sees it’s covered in bandages, an outward sign of what he’d been through. His arms are bare, his ruined tunic and shirt most likely being removed during his treatment. Above him, looking out into the room, he finds the origin of the voice, it is an Ithorian that he vaguely remembers helping him. Looking around he notices that the room is packed, he recognized all of them, from his short time as their inquisitor, he remembers looking over each of them in the roster, searching in vain for the infiltrator. Padawans Battershell and Thrace are there, hopefully with the darkness gone he could have a normal conversation with them. Padawan Tano is also present, he’s never met the Togruta personally but, he still recognizes her. Knight Daniel Sandstrider, the council member who seemed to have knowledge of warfare, looked pained and worried. To Kai's right there's a tray with some medical instruments on it. Next to them are two lightsabers. One is Kai’s own, easily apparent to him. The other is the one given him by Taab, the one taken off the Sith’s body. Both are stained with blood, his own and the Sith’s, when he is feeling better he’d look into cleaning them.

Giving the room another look he didn’t see Letali or Lacie. Did that mean they were unharmed or something worse?

“Excuse me,” he says to the Ithoran Susruta, his voice is weak but could still be heard by others around him. “Uh…” each utterance hurt but, he needed to ask, “Are Knight Letali and Padawan Lacie alright, did they get through ok?”
