Grand Admiral Randal Duflin

The sith ships seemed not to be cooridnated as they began to move into attack positions against the imperial fleet. It seemed to Randal that they were not acting very coordinated to start this battle up. He knew that his forces outnumbered the Sith ships in the system, and now it seemed they were acting very independantly from each other. Perhaps this was not then the time for all out battle, but rather a more merciful approach. Randal opened up communications between his ship and the Sith forces.

"This is Grand Admiral Dufflin of His Imperial Majesty's Imperial Navy. Lower your shields and power down your weapons. Surrender to the true empire and you will not be destroyed. Any ship failing to do so will be destroyed."

Any ships that did comply would mean less targets for the rest of his fleet to engage. These ship in turn could then be captured and reinstated into H.I.M's Imperial forces.

Interesting. Most interesting indeed. It appeared, from what his Hand was saying, that his Blademaster was up to something. Being a Sith, it was not surprising, nor even unwelcome, but certainly something that would require looking into. Ambitious underlings were useful, overambitious underlings were dangerous. Aloud, he continued,

"Excellent work, my Hand. You have done well in bringing this information to my attention. I shall have to meet with this...Saarai-Kaar, and see what falsities my Blademaster has been feeding him. And then, perhaps, I shall have additional...work, for you to do. But I shall not keep you from your present mission. Assuming neither of you have any other questions, you may depart when ready. Also, you may have access to anything you require from our armories to complete this task."

There was a visible pause in the movements of the Sith fleet, as they no doubt stopped to hold a short conference amongst captains on what their next move should be, when faced with a superior force proclaiming allegiance to the Empire. To any who had ears aboard the vessels, the sounds of blasterfire would mark numerous brief executions over that period. Then came the response.

Deflector shields flickered into existence across the fleet, over those vessels which had not already brought up their defensive systems. Slow and uncoordinated, they opted for the most simplistic approach: mass firepower. Turbolaser blasts shot through the void of space towards the Imperial fleet, though ineffective at the present range. In the eyes of the Sith, if the Imperial fleet wished to approach, it would have to be straight into the storm.

    Space Near Byss

From behind the panels of his private transport, Bik couldn't help but grin at the Sith response. This was why he had joined with them, after all: They knew when to stop negotiating and just open fire.

Which of course left the Imperials with two options: Retreat, and waste a lot of time, effort, fuel, and all that bantha fodder that the brass concerned themselves with, or Fight, and risk defeat. He powered up his shields and blaster array, and hoped it would be the latter. Still, it was better to make his presence known to the others before he just flew into a possible battlefield. He switched on his communications equipment and opened up the standard secure Sith hailing frequency.

"This is Lieutenant Bik Grohen, requesting permission for Krayt Dragon's Pearl to enter combat," he announced, and then eagerly awaited the response.

    IC: Commander Bilt

Bilt was rummaging through a pile of stuff when he got a call over the comlink. Sir, do you happen to know when the meeting is yet? It was Thryta; he was obviously ready to head over to the Doneeta.

"Go appoint one of the others as temp. squadron leader, and I'll meet you in the hangar in five minutes." Shutting off the comlink, Bilt grabbed his flight helmet and proceeded out the door, making sure that he had everything that he needed. A nice small blaster pistol sat in a side holster, present in case he needed it. If he was to not take a weapon on board, then he could leave it in his fighter. As he made his way towards the hangar, he still contemplated wha the meeting was going to be about. He was suspicious that it would take place on another ship, an older ship than the Guardian from the sounds of it. But something else nagged at him again; would this mean that it would be a change of pace for him and his group? Was it some kind of elaborate personnel transfer operation? Those kinds of thigns were known to occur, officers and crew getting switched to another post without them knowing of the move ahead of time.

As he made his way into the hangar, he could see that his fighter was being worked on. Although he made many repairs himself, he couldn't be around all the time to fix the problems. Turning around, the technician acknowledged him and said "I've fixed a few loose nuts and bolts, along with a small laser cannon cooling conduit. She should be good to go, Commander." And with that, he backed away and walked over to another fighter. Bilt climbed into the cockpit and watched for Thryta to appear. It was not long before the Zabrak walked in, and a few minutes later, both of them blasted out of the hangar and headed towards the Doneeta.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bilt earned clearance to land in the Doneeta's docking bay, and he landed his ship slwoly and carefully. Clambering otu of the cockpit, he jumped down and pulled off his flight helmet. A deck officer came over and asked him his name for the official logbook. Not wanting to break protocol, Bilt informed the officer of his purpose aboard the ship. Nodding, the officer pointed both Bilt and Thryta to a turbolift shaft, giving them instructions on how to get to the meeting room.

Stepping out from the turbolift, both pilots started down a long corridor. "The officer said that the conference room is most of the way down the hall and to the left. Should be easy to find," Bilt said.

The Force rumbled, and the moment before Garen's hand closed on the amulet, it was snatched from his and Moonshadow's hands, soaring off. Garen snatched his lightwhip from his belt, while Moonshadow drew a crimson blade, the two turning. His limited Force senses directed themselves towards the nearby undergrowth, and Kya intoned.

No. I do small scale. I don't lead entire fleets into a fight. And I don't lead auretise. Thank You for wasting my time, Captain.

Sark was not intimidated by the Mandalorian, though Lorelei was definitely, waving aside his concerns with a light gesture. Nakir was turning away, and Sark spoke, clearly. "You misunderstand me. I do not require a leader. I require your skills as a soldier. I intend to lead the task force, do not concern yourself with leading... auretise, was it? Yes. I will need you to do what Mandalorians do best; win."

Lorelei bit her lip at that, and typed a few preset responses as 'Supreme Commander Meer' to his visitor, and went to sign off, however noticing a message.

    -----Uto Pia

Arrival on Coruscant, confirmed. Reconnaissance undergoing. Next objective, initiative situation attacks. Any further objectives, direct to datapad 43.

    1237-----

Lorelei nodded at that, content to give the agent some initiative on Coruscant. Intel agents were best left with loose leashes, so as to better allow them space to make their own missions. It was a controllers job to make sure they didn't stray too far, and to give them updates that their current context could not provide.

    Lorelei deactivated the sound booth, as another tidbit informed her Fedar Sen and Doan Ro arrived. A message on her screen informed her that Commander Bilt had also arrived. She directed a comlink message to all three;

Please report to Conference Room 8. The crew will direct you if need be. Knight Lorelei Kya, speaking for Supreme Commander Meer and Captain Tokins.

Lorelei stepped from the console, and spoke up. "Captain Tokins, the others are on their way."

Sark nodded, the Nimbanel clearly happy to have some ability to curtail discussion. "Well, Nakir?"

    Grand Admiral Randal Duflin

Judging by the actions of the Sith fleet, they were not taking the Grand Admiral up on his offer. Pity. They decided to go out fighting against overwhelming odds instead of fleeing or putting down their odds. More needless destruction of former Imperial property was the only course of action for Randal and his fleet. Alarms began to light up as the light amount of fire from the Sith ships began to touch the {i]Ascension?s hull. Knowing that this one ship was more than capable of defeating the Sith forces in orbit, she lumbered forward to lead the attack. When she was first designed, she was powerful enough to stand up against thousands of Seperatist ships at once. However, the Empire had modernized her for the newer era, and could withstand even more firepower. From her main batteries, over a thousand guns opened up fire on the lead Sith Star Destroyer. Following suit, the remaining ships of her fleet targeted the Sith different Sith ships to fire upon. 6 of the ISD II?s and 2 of the VSD-I?s opened fire upon a different Sith Star Destroyer. The remaining ISD-I?s, Venators, 2 VSD-I?s and Immobilizers began to target one of the remaining few Sith Star Destroyers left to target with their main turbolasers.

Fighters began to swarm away from the Imperial fleet, numbering in the multiple thousands. Almost all of them were of the Tie Advanced model with a smaller group of elite Tie Defenders. Each fighter squadron broke up into groups of three, using their small flight tactics to cover their wing mates, and overwhelm a single fighter or bomber at a time. For their heavy punch, the Imperial Star fighters consisted of Scimitar assault bombers. These assault bombers were escorted by some of the Tie?s, to give them cover against any opposition on their way to their targets. Each squadron began to open fire on the ships with their impressive arrays of Proton Torpedos.

From the other side of the sith fleet, the Second Imperial Sector Fleet launched its fighters and bombers as well in similar fashion. From their vantage point, they would be able to attack the Sith fleet from the rear, catching their enemies in a dangerous pinch between the two superior Imperial fleets. With the overwhelming firepower and numerical advantages the Imperial fleets had over the Sith forces, the battle would be a short one indeed.

"Well," said Kev-Mas, with a serious look on his disguised face, "We're here. We are to stay close together, should anything happen."

Kev-Mas then paused very briefly, "And be very careful with what you do, and what you say, and make up a decent alias for yourselves while your at it." he whispered, "We don't want to blow our cover. Understood?"

"I trust your judgment" nodded Jace affirmatively.

    Manager Marcus Manlius

    "Papers, please."

The ID chits took longer than usual to process, and Manlius was irritated by the delay. The docking queues stretched ever onwards, as they always did. This was Imperial Center, and if you had an eight hour job at the customs terminal, then you worked every single hour. There were breaks, but they didn't feel like breaks.

"Your IDs seem a little old, Captain Mern. Is this your first trip to Imperial Center in a while?"

Truth be told, Manlius didn't particularly care. He wasn't being social, but there was a method to the questioning. Most often smugglers tended to invent overelaborate excuses when asked simple questions, and his only job was to confiscate goods.

The ISB didn't care what customs did with contraband so long as it got a slice, so Manlius often netted himself loads of offworld merchandise and knockoff liquor. Captain Mern's cago manifest was listed as Mufa Muffins, which couldn't appear to be more dull. Hopefully they were laced with highly illical narcotics or hallucinogenics. Those were the best kind.

Doan and Fedar both heard the message over the com-unit and continued down the few halls they had to to the meeting room which appeared to have quite a few people in it already, sure most of them appeared to be crew, but still. Doan looked around looking for a familiar face when he saw who he was looking for. He then walked over to where Lorelei stood, Fedar falling close behind, not wanting to get caught up in anything else. Plus it may be a good thing to hang around someone who knew the people here better than he did.

"Lorelei." Doan said bowing, his slender frame making it seem quite elegant. "I'm glad that someone is here to represent the Order, I'm surprised Leia hasn't shown up yet, I was expecting her to appear by now." he said looking over his shoulder, in the vain hope that she might wander through. "Wishful thinking." he added turning back to Lorelei. "By the way I don't know if you've met Mister Sen here, but he is quite an excellent pilot, and if I might say, a possible interest to the Order." he said as he walked over to stand next to the Draethos.

Fedar walked forward and bowed in turn. "I think it's nice just to see the Jedi back and in force again." Fedar said. "When Palp's said you'd betrayed the Republic I didn't believe him for a nanosecond. I grew up hearing stories about the Order, about it's great exploits and achievments. Also any organization where a Draethos can be be as honored as Odan Urr is can't even be remotely sinsiter." He added with a slight chuckle. "But it is very comforting to know that we have the FOrce on our side again." he added with a sigh as he reflected back to his early years when the Jedi were great megotiators, and had solved many of the most terrible conflicts with minimal casualties.

"As I said." Doan said. "He would be of much interest to the Order, it's just a little irksome that Leia isn't here yet, I would very much like her to meet him." he added, now tilting his head from side to side trying to look around and see if maybe she had merely escaped his view. Still no luck. "Oh well, maybe she'll be able to meet him later." he added shrugging his shoulders. "Anyway, may I inquire as to the nature of this meeting, I admit I wasn't formally invited, but I wouldn't mind offering any aid I might." he added.

IC as Kane Lavos, the Battle of Byss, orientated toward Galactic North from the fleet battle, aboard the Obsidian Apollo

The Sith fleet appeared to erupt as one with old fashioned but still effective mass fire tactics brought to bear on the forward advance arc of the Imperial Fleet. Whomsoever had settled the command issue that had obviously occurred after Duflin's ultimatum certainly knew their small fleet tactics: against an overwhelming force, it never hurt to try and make your enemy flinch.

But thanks to his earlier efforts, there was an extra skifter up Duflin's sleeve. The fleet that had advanced through the sensor window had opened up on the rear of the Sith formation: if the enemy were following conventional tactics, they would have shields with power reinforced forward where the enemy where "supposed" to be.

Lavos didn't have time to find out however. His gambit with the cold-shirting out near the sensor satellites may have worked, but it had vented much of his available oxygen into space. He was already eating into reserves, and his fighter - hardly designed for long haul flights - was short on fuel.

But he was also still fully cloaked, in a potent space weapon, and all the guile and cunning of the Intelligence service at his disposal.

    He still had a duty.

An idea had formed in his mind after Duflin had issued his ultimatum and he was able to analyse the behaviour of the enemy fleet. These were not a fully loyal and elite Sith fighting force: far from it. They were still Imperial by nature - deserters whats more - and it seemed their beliefs and efficency fell far short of the fanatical if the pause before their response to the ultimatum spoke any truth.

This meant someone might get lax, and where laxity - or perhaps the despair prompted by fear - set in, the Imperial Intelligence service should never be far away.

Orientating himself as close to the battle as he dared in his admittedly fragile fighter, he set up his passive sensors and waiting for one of the Sith ships to be broken open or otherwise wounded.

If he got lucky, it just might be time to try something a little more audacious...

But now Vincent had other worries, his analytical mind shifting from the completed task to the next. His silver lightsaber activated, illuminating him in an ethereal white glow from the shadows. He clutched the chain of the Amulet letting it dangle just a bit. "I would not move." He said calmly, His minds eye took in all the surroundings all the troops all the possibilities and outcomes. "If a single one of you moves to attack me I will destroy this little jewel of yours."

He took a few steps out of the shadows and made as if he was circling to the right. A standard tactic in most forms of sword combat. But in actuality he was moving for a clear shot to the tree line. Any minute now the Sentinel would lock itself down for the firing sequence. "Play this smart, and you'll only be out a Jewel, and not your lives."

IC as Wil Shard, Meeting Prep Room of the Guardian

Wil Shard nodded politely to the ensign who had guided him to the meeting room, trying not to notice the tight cut of her fleet-issue jumpsuit as he turned to regard the meeting room. Not at the Academy on Bonadan anymore. Nor chasing skirt at the University on Kalla VII. This is the big league. Stay sharp Wil!

He drank in the details of the room and tried not to frown as he noticed that no one else was here. He knew the ranks of the Rebel Alliance were hardly swelled with their own rank and file graduates and mostly consisted of drib-and-drab recruits like he: but he hardly expected to be the only person here.

Nor did he expect to be waiting. He didn't think himself so important that Meer would be rushing to see him - exactly the opposite - he just didn't think someone as busy as the Supreme Commander would be anything less than punctual.

Just as that thought was processed his eyes flickered to a holo-projector that flickered to life above the sand-grey surface of the meeting room table. Despite the slight crackle of interference, the Quarren was recognisable instantly as the Supreme Commander.

"Naval Officer Shard, I apologise for my tardiness, but I have been unable to leave the bridge. Problems with the turbolifts. As you well know, we never quite have the resources to run the Guardian at peak efficiency."

Again, Wil tried not to frown. He'd not seen as much spit and polish efficency on a ship in the whole of the Alliance, if the hanger was any indication. But then again, he wasn't the Supreme Commander: what really, in the grander scheme of things, did he know?

"Either way, welcome to Mon Calamari. I have instructions for you, though unfortunately our time will be short."

Wil nodded sharply in what he hoped was a vaguely military enough acknowledgement. Does one salute a hologram one quarter your size?

"Thank you Supreme Commander. I stand ready to serve, and look forward to hearing what you'd have me do. I'm also not yet sure which Command I've been assigned: the flag intimated that decision was still in your hands. As I said though Sir, I stand ready to serve, no matter what the capacity."

Caught between the two Imperial fleets, the Sith force exploded. Quite literally, in fact. Due to the issues of trust with Imperial defectors to the Sith, and more-than-occasional infiltration attempts, many of the Sith's capital ships at vital locations were seeded with explosives that could be detonated by an officer more loyal to the Sith's vision in the event of treachery or capture by enemy forces. Or, in cases such as this, said officers could effectively "go out with a bang."

The flagship of the Sith fleet had no chance to utilize this system, as it was swiftly destroyed under the heavy fire of the Ascension. The other destroyers of the fleet took near-disabling barrages from the Imperial vessels and bombers, and soon tore themselves apart in self-destruction with a last, desperate move to avoid being captured. The Sith dreadnoughts, outnumbered, outgunned, and crewed by considerably less fanatic officers, began to power down their weapons and shields one by one, offering their surrender now that their flagship was out of the picture. Some ships banded together in an attempt to launch a counterattack, while others made to flee, but one thing was clear to all: Byss was lost.

OOC :: You'll have to pardon me if I don't make things up as I go, its not in my playstyle to do that, as I don't trust myself. So, if you would like, I could post finding something, but if you could, could you make a GM post about that?

IC as Kane Lavos, in cloaked orbit above the Battle of Byss conflagration, Beshqek system

The hybrid Intelligence officer wasn't one necessarily given to dismay, but it was hard to see the inkling of a plan - ingenious even by his own less-than-humble standards - crumble to just so much dust.
The Sith ships may be crewed largely by defectors and malcontents displeased with the rise of Emperor Jello to the Throne - or indeed those whom had spent too long under the sway of Palpatine's cadre of Dark Siders - but the Commanders were clearly not fools. He wondered just how many of those ship captains knew that their ships were rigged to blow instead of falling into enemy hands.

Lavos himself knew many ship of the line commanders who'd willingly set their reactor to critical for just such an end, and he'd always considered such sacrifice inherently noble: just the sort of dedication to the New Order that would be required to defeat the uncivilised hordes massing the Empire's borders.

But to rig your fleets to explode as a matter of course? These so-called Sith...they were something else.

He continued to amass as much data on the enemy fleet, formation and ship transponders as he could, for what little extra it may add to Duflin's analysis crypt's efforts. Looking at his oxygen meter, he knew that he had run out of time for any other plan, even if he could think one up.

Just as he guided the ship yolk up and around to bring his ship back toward the friendly fleet, he saw the flash of psuedomotion that heralded another arrival from hyperspace. His first reaction was alarm, until the transponder code flashed across his screen.

The Imperial-class Star Destroyer Recusant. He frowned, not recognising the name as part of Duflin's fleet. He sent a quick hypercomm interrogative to the nearest Ubiqtorate satellite transceiver as he glided along toward the newcoming vessel.

The response came back with a profile of the ship, her crew, and an appended copy of the most recent orders: less than a day old, and with the Emperor's seal no less.

Suddenly he knew he had a new task at hand, and that faux-dismay he'd felt earlier finally ceased to be. Signaling for his commlink to open an encrypted channel, he hailed the ISD Recusant and de-activated the Stygium-crystal cloaking device.

"Recusant, this is Ubiqtorate. Requesting clearance to dock for refueling and restocking of a diamond class classified Imperial Intelligence asset. I'll also need to be speaking with Admiral Sythan, prior to your ship entering battle. Please acknowledge."

    IC: Admiral Sythan
ISD Recusant about to enter engagement

"Ubiqtorate, this is Admiral Sythan permission to dock granted, you have priority, Requisitions already filed and prepared and crews standing by to service your vessel, I will be on the Bridge and will meet you there, Recusant out"

The Recusant and her attendant ships begin launching their TIEs, mostly I/N and Intercpetors as wellas a few squadrons of bombers, but the fighters move into long parabolas awaiting orders from their commander.

Bilt and Thryta continued walking after getting off the turbolift. "Well, she said Meeting Room 8," Bilt said. "I hope that we can get there pretty quickly." As they walked, he looked for a sign, some way that he could figure out where the room was. A map would come in handy; he had no idea of the layout of the ship, and he hadn't seen anyone that he could ask since the hangar. They could not afford to be late.

Mandator-II Class Star Dreadnaught ? Ascension | Byss
    Grand Admiral Randal Duflin

Unsurprised by the eventual fate of the Sith fleet, Randal began his preparations for the ground assault on Byss. In a joint fleet motion, both fleets made their way towards the planet. Once in position, the hanger bays of the ships began to flood with Imperial landing craft, full of the Emperor?s finest on the way to the surface. Also, two of the prefabricated bases were sent down as well. Those ships that were capable of doing so, entered into the atmosphere to provide cover for the troops and they landed, along with a good majority of the fighters and bombers of the fleet.

As for the remaining Sith ships in orbit, they were brought into closer range with the numerous tractor beams of the Ascension and the other ships of the fleet. Of the few that remaining, boarding actions were being prepared. Those that surrendered to the Empire would be captured and dealt with accordingly.

However, as Duflin was finishing out his orders, another ship appeared on the long range scanners. Its IFF code showed it was an Imperial ship?.but not one of his fleet. Puzzled, Duflin began to question why it had arrived. Just as he was about to hail the captain of the ship?another blip showed up. Lavos? Tie-Phantom had decloaked just off the bow of the ship. Knowning that either this was something the Inspector had inticipated, or something was planning on handling, Duflin decided not to contact the new ISD. He instead brought up his high encryption communication.

    To: His Imperial Majesty
From: Grand Admiral Randal Duflin, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Forces
    Encryption: Obsidian
    <<Your Majesty,

The Sith insurgency in orbit of Byss has been dealt with in a quick fashion. Troops are landing as we speak, as the rest of the fleet deals with those who surrendered. Prefabricated bases have established an early foothold on the surface, and the rest of the planet should fall under our control in a minimal amount of time. Duflin out.>>
