She had her head ripped off by a buzz droid while helping Obi-Wan try to rescue Palpatine. This is one of the most gruesome "deaths" in the whole saga.

But does R4 get the respect she deserves? No! In ANH, Obi-Wan even says he doesn't remember ever owning a droid. (I know R4 wasn't his personal property, but still...)

I want to see R4 added as a Force-ghost at the end of ROTJ.

He didn't own him, those droids are property of the Jedi Temple.

I know, I noted that in the original post.

By the way, as strange as it sounds, the Official Site refers to R4 as "she."

It's no different to how we label ships as 'she.'

A choice is simply made. R2s are Male, R4s are female.

...and now Lord we commit R4's body to You. R4 is survived by R4-P18, R4-P19, and R4-P21. Alas, I never knew him/her/it but I can tell you that R4 will be sadly missed.

(If anyone's wondering, R4-P20 died from complications arising during botbirth.)

    From the Official Site:

A faithful astromech built into Obi-Wan Kenobi's assigned Jedi starfighter, R4-P17 assisted the Jedi Knight during his mission to track down Senator Padmé Amidala's attacker. The truncated, dome-headed droid served as onboard astrogator, technician and communications specialist for Kenobi during the Clone Wars. During the Battle of Coruscant, R4-P17 had its head ripped off by a buzz droid, bringing her operational life cycle to a violent end.

R4-P17 started off as a traditional R4 unit, complete with the characteristic conical head, when she was nearly destroyed in a trash compactor mishap on Gyndine. While inspecting the Jedi customizations of the Delta-7 designs, Anakin Skywalker happened upon the wrecked little droid and rebuilt it. The new R4-P17 sported an R2-series dome and would eventually become the prototype for other integrated droid navigators aboard the Jedi Aethersprite fighters. R4-P17 received a full astromech body during the Clone Wars when Kenobi adopted the newer Eta-2 Actis interceptor starfighter.

"Alright, R4. No, no. Nothing too fancy."

R4 wanted to be frisky like R2. Too bad Obi-Wan was such a wuss when it came to flying.

    "R4 is R2's sister."

Vader to R2-"so you have a twin sister, if you will not join the Darkside, then perhaps she will"

then R2 does like he did on GG ship.

It's no different to how we label ships as 'she.'

Or, not to mention the way we call r2 or 3po "he". We may as well toss the females a bone now and again.

I want to see R4 added as a Force-ghost at the end of ROTJ.

::raises glass:: Here here!! I have been waiting for a thread like this. I love R4! I can't believe she actually bit the dust in ROTS, I thought she was okay! It looked like Obi just had her dome replaced. I am saddened now. She certainly deserves a force ghost:)

My brother and I hold to the fact that we want to see the television series: The Adventures of R4 And Obi-Wan Kenobi

Casual viewers think R4-G9 is R4-P17, just with a new head and new colours.

I remember in some Dramatis Personae somewhere that one character was listed as "Masculine Droid". My guess is that droids can be programmed to have male or female personalities. How that works I have no idea, especially with astromechs, but there you go.

    Oh, man...

    R2-D2: <Oh, man, check out that R4! Think I have a chance?>
    R5-D4: <Nah.>

I think R4 got played. Why didn't R2 get destroyed in any of the SIX films, and yet R4 gets blasted just as she's finally made a name for herself. I demand to see justice.

And the worst part of all of this????? She had a bigger Better role then most of the PT Backround jedi combined. I guess it's kinda of a ethical thing. If R2 "Died" we would cry. but when R4 Dies we laugh. I was still crying from the opening crawl at this point in the film and yes i admit it made me sad :(
