Amph "The Sleeper Has Awakened" - DUNE DISCUSSION-

Needless to say I'm waiting to see what this will offer. I'm a huge fan of the Lynch film, though some costume aspects of the miniseries I felt were better, overall the film was awesome. I've read only the first book, but the others reading the summaries online...it may take me a bit of convincing to read them.

But for this film: may I suggest a few casting choices?

The Lady Jessica:
Bryce Dallas Howard


That or Amy Adams.

The Emperor: Patrick Stewart. The original Gurney but old enough to be the Emperor now. Why not?


Gurney: Jason Statham

Why Jason Statham? As far as looks go he's the closet to the rough and tough guy that Gurney was. Yes, Gurney has a dry humor but Statham has done lines like that before. I think it would be perfect casting. Can't think of anyone else.

 

Can Statham act though? Seems like you're trying to remake the miniseries Gurney; bless Patrick Moriarty but he clearly had no idea what was going on. Patrick Stewart as the emperor would be confusing and I think he'd bring too much baggage... I think your choice for Jessica looks too young, but I guess that depends on how old Paul is supposed to be in this version.

 

Next Dune movie will cover half the first book

The first Dune release I read had the novel split in two, ending after the Harkonnen/Sardaukar attack against the Atreides has driven Paul and Jessica to flee, and the pair riding out the Coriolis storm which allows their escape. It ended on Paul reciting the Litany against fear, making for a very nice ending scene and an excellent cliffhanger.

 

It doesn't say which half it is. Preparing for the worst here:

Dune will be an action film following Muad Dib's campaign against the House Harkonnen. Big explosions in the sand for 3 hours. Key moments of his character development shall be revealed in confusing arcane flashbacks that interrupt any dialogue scene deemed cerebral or boring.

She's a great choice imo, I hope they land her.

 

Dave Bautista joins the Dune cast

Cool for him.

 

Who would he play though?

 

"Bautista will be playing 'Beast' Rabban, the sadistic nephew of a baron who oversees Arrakis." -THR

 

If so, excellent choice IMO. He obviously brings the physical goods, but Bautista has also fashioned himself into a credible actor and this is a role that would seem to be in his wheelhouse. Also the second time Villenueve has hired him, which speaks well of him.

 

And here is your Baron Harkonnen

Excellent.

 

Love it. Great choice.

Mr.skarsgård is a bigger man (6'3, if the interweb is to be believed) but he's not as... round as the Baron. I'll be curious to see how they transform him for the role and how far Villenueve pushes the character's grotesque physicality.

 

I like the casting choices so far. Is it too late to suggest Alexandro Jodorowski as the emperor?

 

I think the big question here is who is going to do Feyd?

I don't know why but you just made me want to see Sting as one of the older characters, maybe Gurney Halleck

 

Duncan Idaho should be Will Smith.

Because they have to guarantee this movie doesn't work and the casting department has failed that objective in spectacular fashion.

I can't see him as a badass swordmaster.

 

I can. However, I can't see him coming back for every single film without charging tens of millions of dollars more each time, so I think it should go to someone who'd be more grateful for the work.
