    *sigh*

    I'll never find the kind of fabric I need, tho.

    See, I'm starting my biggest costuming project yet.
    Yeah, I hear some sighs. But this costume...I want it to be as movie accurate as I can possibly get it (I want ONE movie accurate costume before I die!!). Meaning it will probably take around two years to make (because I'm slow and have limited resources). I'm going to put a great deal of money and effort into this costume. I'm almost afraid to say what the costume is, because 1. I wanted it to be a suprise, and 2. people will definately make fun of me wanting to do it. J has already expressed his...confusion at my decision to make this costume. But I had such a surge when I saw this movie again, and just had to have this costume.

    But I degress. I will show you the costume. Anyone who remembers the 80s should know who this is.

    [image=http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/principeadam2001/filme/skelet.jpg]

    I'm looking for the shiny matierial to make the shirt and pants that go on underneath the costume. They are made from that matierial that looks black, but shimmers when you move. Like the stuff they have at wal-mart that shines blue/purple when you move it, and has all those moons and stars all over it. The particular shine this has is silver. But I can't find any matierial like that, unless I get sequened matierial and turn it inside out. But then it would be insanely itchy. *sigh*

    I wish I could make the armor out of real metal, but that's pretty much impossible. I was going to try what Tim did to make the Slave Leia outfit. Make a wire frame, and put sculpy all over it.
    The cloak is what I want more than anything. It's the perfect cloak. It's big, it's billowy, it's black...wow. It is super long, and the edges attach at the wrists. Also, it wraps around the neck, like a cowl. It's so kewl...*dreamy cloak eyes*

    I even want to put the little blinking lights in the guantlets. But I still can't make out what that is on his belt. I thought it was a skull at first, but whatever it is has bulging eyes. And that will be fun to sculpt. (That was sarcasm, BTW.)

    Yep. This will definately take a while. But...I would love any advice on this insane project...hehehehe...

    OH GOD GRACE.... if you need help with the staff let me know... I have wanted to make one for so long. For real, this is a cool costume and I have put thought into it myself. I also remember an old Masters of the Universe fan club book that gave tips on some of this stuff. I think this is something I could contribute too.

    OMG!!!! *HUGZ!!!!!*

    I LOVE YOU!!! Um...sorry. Yes, I would love any help anyone can give!!!

    :D

    I intend to wear some type of heel...or platform. I nearly fell out of my seat when I heard that Frank Langella was 6'2"...and here I am, a measly 5'6".

    Take that, He-Man!

    Give me a shout if you need any advice regarding sculpting, Grace. Also, the "shine" on the material may not be from the construction of the material. It could be that the lighting used on the set may make the sheen of the fabric only appear to be silver. You'll notice that fabrics with a taller pile (such as velvet) will have more of that certain sheen than do shorter-piled fabrics. It could be just an illusion, so don't be too downhearted about the possibility of not finding the right fabric.

    Also, remember that it wasn't a very high-budget movie, so the fabrics aren't going to be the highest quality!

    This is the best pic I could find of the fabric. (his belly)
    It's just some kind of sequined stuff. I'll make some better screencaps when I get the DVD. That way it'll show up better.

    But yeah, I might be seeking your advice in the future, O great emperor. ^_^
    My Revan mask turned out less impressive than I thought, so my lonely sculpting abilities might not completely make the cut for this project.

    And for a low-budget film, it sure looked pretty! ^^

    Grace, I'm excited about this one. Are you trying for "dead on" or "close enough"? This is one of the coolest costumes of all time and I am so glad somebody is doing it. Here are some pics that I found that might be useful. [image=http://www.motu-legacies.com/comskel.jpg]
    [image=http://www.motu-legacies.com/ConceptSkeletor.jpg]

    and this one is just cool

    ok, I found another pic that looks cool of old bone face

    [image=http://www.krosis.com/imgs/art/full/skeletor.jpg]

    to be honest, I would love to see this one dead on but it will be pretty hard to do because getting good pictures of the costume will be hard. Even ripping them from the DVD would be hard to get the angles you would need on it. I'll tell you this much, I'm with you all the way on this one. It makes me want to do a man-at-arms costume. Nothing like the one from the film but more like the 4 horsemen action figure.

    I think the fabric may be a velvet or possibly a suede and just lighted so that it shines. [face_thinking]

    I REALLY want dead on...or as close as I can possibly get to dead on. Like I said, the metal work part is out of the question for me. Unless someone here has forging skills that no one knows about. :p

    Yeah, I came across those pics as well. The bottom one of Skeletor and Teela is awesome, if not slightly disturbing.

    And as for getting pics from the DVD...you don't know me when I screencap. I take pictures of every possible angle. *L* You should see all the pics I got of the Green Goblin from Spiderman 1. J says I could make a flipbook of all those pics.

    But I'm SO happy that you're willing to help me here! And it would be awesome if you and I showed up at a con as Skeletor and Man-At-Arms. Ahh...the many battle pics!! BWAHAHAHAAA!!
    But...wouldn't you want to be one of my faithful underlings instead? :p J/K

    And I'm so appreciative that no one makes fun of me for crossplaying here. See, I would make a lot of female costumes, but most female costumes are tight and made for girls who don't have much up top or down below. If I cosplay as a man, then I can get away with just about anything. I can be a big girl and still look okay in the costume. And I think I can get away with this one because of that gorgeous cloak. It's HUGE and will hide most of me. ^^

    But I'm already out looking for the fabric and such. I wanted to ask Emperor Tim where he got the fabric for Traci's Bariss hood. The print of the fabric is kinda like Skeletor's from the movie. But I'll just get some regular velvet if I have to. Velvet is the most wonderful fabric in the world. [face_love]
    And also, I found a real metal replica of Skeletor's sword on E-bay for cheap. I'll be getting that for the costume as well.

    I would be honored to let you protect me. :D I've got to modify the under suit and the armor need some adjustments. Along with other little things but I am VERY pleased. When I stood on the front porch to take the pics, I caused quite a traffic jam. [face_whistling] I'm gonna LOVE this.

    I just got Masters of the Universe on DVD and thanks to the awesome Joe and Gina, I now have Power DVD on my laptop! And since I'm just sitting here at work with nothing to do (yet), I'm gonna get to screencapping!

    :D

    Happy to teach ya! Your serger is a little different from mine with regards to tension and the like but we can easily figure what's normal for yours.

    Speaking of costumes, I have some information on serging that crinkly fabric (which is a type of liner BTW).

    Instructions: Use a press cloth, size 11 or 12 needle, close stitches, adjust tension. Now if I can just make it work.

    I'm about to kick my serger out the window, it's been very annoying the past few days :B
    Grace I can't wait to see that costume... it's going to be SO awesome!
    And YES- Holly it looks GREAT!! Now I can't wait to get my trooper armour.

    As of last night I finished everything for dragoncon.... I feel like I've been running a 3 week marathon trying to get all this stuff done!! On top of worrying about the NWA mechanics strike, now Katrina, and now being told my boxes with my costumes I shipped today will probably be delayed, thanks to FedEx being swamped by all the bad weather. And I'll be quite happy to never look at another princess dress again. But, anyway, here's my cousin's Cinderella dress, my friend's Snow White dress, and my Belle dress.

    [image=http://kellilla.com/me/costuming/snowwhite_finished.jpg]
    [image=http://kellilla.com/me/costuming/belle_finished.jpg]
    And I finished Ash's costume and my new Leia rebel uniform (no pics of those yet, though)
    I'm not fooling with any more costume stuff for a while... at least until halloween anyway, haha.

    As far as the serger, you may need to have it professionally cleaned. What is it doing to act funny? [face_thinking]

    Oh wow!

    A guy on the He-Man.org boards just e-mailed me a bunch of Skeletor movie pics (most of which I already have), but what he also sent me were pics from an e-bay auction he came across once for the God Skeletor costume. Basically it's the same costume I want to make, only gold and with a ridiculously huge helmet. But those pics have details that I never saw before. He even sent me a pic of the sword hilt! (However, I am no sculptor...so I guess that just a pretty picture for me)
