Well, I know we talked about this in the past, but I wanted to touch on it again after talking with Lin last night. I do want to do this still, but I think six films spread throughout the summer/early fall would be plenty. That number would include the one scheduled for May 22nd, and would happen monthly until October, when we would show Sleepy Hollow.

That leaves us with figuring out what four films we want to watch. We have to keep two criteria in mind for choosing, though: First the films have to be family-friendly, meaning no graphic sex, violence, and language. (I know, I know... There goes showing Showgirls. I know you're all disappointed, and we know it's really an art film, but we'll just have to skip it.) Second, someone must have the suggested film on DVD in Widescreen Format, or must be able to rent it from a video store.

My suggestions are any of the Indiana Jones films and The Fifth Element.

I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions over the next couple of weeks. We'll narrow down the list and make the final choices for the remaining four films after the first Drive-In night in May.

I vote for the indy movies and fifth element that would make 4.

    "There goes showing Showgirls."

Man, how am I gonna break the news to Gina Gershon..?!

I think one a month will give everybody a chance to check at least one out- if not more. Keeping it simple, and having everyone bring something to snack on would work best- and it won't be too big of a hassel for our hosts!

I'll throw some movie suggestions out there-

    The Blues Brothers (spec. ed.)
    Flash Gordon (1980's)
    GalaxyQuest
Corvette Summer (if I can get it on DVD)
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Aliens (spec. ed)
    American Graffiti
    Gross Pointe Blank
    Better Off Dead
    Superman:The Movie (spec. ed.)
    Stargate (spec. ed.)

Unfortunately, Aliens will be out, Lin. Adult language, you know. Not that the kids in this neighborhood can't hear their share of F-bombs from the passing cars that are blaring rap music, but as long as it can be heard publicly, I want to keep it as clean as possible. Maybe if we do one in a more private, secluded locale, then we can choose more freely.

Galaxy Quest would be a good one. I love that movie.

Let's start nailing down some possible dates for the rest of the summer in advance. How about June 26th, July 10th, August 28th, September 11th, and October 16th? (Since we're hosting, I'm trying to accommodate Traci's work schedule as best as possible.)

Also, I want the ladies to choose a flick for June 26th: Ladies Choice Night at the SMT Drive-In. Y'all get together and choose. We dudes have no say in that night whatsoever. (All it has to do is follow the guidelines that I mentioned earlier.)

So, let's get busy and get our movie list nailed down over the next couple of weeks. That way, we have something set to announce on our website.

    -Tim

Yep, forgot about that. Maybe once I get my house back in order I can have folks over to watch it. I've got the extended director's cut. It doesn't really change too much of the flick, but makes you go, "I don't remember that..?"

Galaxy Quest would be cool- we could all lose our shirts and roll around on the ground...or not.

So what say the ladies for 'Ladies Night'..?

"...oh yes it's ladies night- oh what a night, oh what a night!"

I love 'The Muppet Movie' and 'Muppets From Space'.

Maybe when it gets darker earlier again- Sept/Oct we could do a dbl feature- one a bit more family firendly than the other. As a kid I used to love it when they'd show a 'kiddie' movie like 'Peter Pan', 'Robin Hood', 'Mr. Toad's Wild Ride', or 'Escape From Witch Mountain', and then a slightly more grown up one- like 'Hot Lead, Cold Feet'! If we could start the movies at 7pm, most younger films are only about 1-1.5 hrs anyway, which means we could watch two movies and still be done by 10-11pm.

What time does it start getting dark in the summer- 8 or 9'ish?

So is everyone cool with this? I'm open to any suggestions or changes. Or, you can always bend my will with liquor.

And it looks like it may just be ESB instead of ANH.

So, did we decide on ESB or ANH? I've seen ANH on the website.

Anyway, posted this on Captain Comics' forum, and this at MSC's and some info on the MSCA's on-line calendar.

Also emailed some radio and tv buds the other day, and told everyone at the MSCA dinner meeting last night.

Just trying to spread some of that SMT propaganda around! Now to go buy some bug spray...
