Oh...everyone speaks German in that thread! Pash is gonna be the funny odd one...then again, that happens a lot!

Nina, a visitors thread sounds really cool. I could start one here too, but we have just a few people in this area and everyone knows each other, so for now I guess the social thread is good.

Well, actually I do, I understand a few words here and their, but it's not much. I chose French when we were to choose between French and German in school...

Though I should probably speak more German in some of the other threads.

 

I understood a handful of words in there (counting the German posts only, obviously) ... "ja", "danke", "edit", and "ciao". And of those, only 2 are actually German. Go figure.

I'm pretty horrible with languages other than English, to be honest. So, yeah ...

 

Don't feel bad Xan, I'm impossible! I did a bit in school and I'm still attrocious. *sigh*

In primary school I could choose between french and german, then in Gymnasiet (what would be mostly like High School, I think) I got to have latin and the choice between german and spanish - I choose spanish....

I got to chose between French and German in primary school, and in Gymnasiet (this must be a Nordic thing... sort of like high school but not exactly, I think... ) I got to choose either to continue studying French or to start again with German or Spanish. I chose to continue with the French, I thought it best to learn one language well and not just a few words of several...

Oh, and English is mandatory from 4th grade here...

We only start learning languages at 11 and even then only for 3 years, which is why most English people suck at languages

Nina, I think you're right about gymansiet.... It must be a nordic thing....

Here we have english from 3th or 4th grade I think, then in 7th grade we have to choose between French and German (some schools only have German though)...

Around here, obviously English is tought from birth. But then in 6th grade we get about 3 weeks of Spanish, German, and French, and then once we get to high school, we can choose which we want to take (if any). I'm taking Spanish, just because it's the most useful around here.
