Welcome celebrated comrades to Jedi Paul's Socialist's sympathisers' thread

I'm sure Marvin and Stinrab will just love this thread :)

But seriously, seeing as we have the anti-capitalist thread , I thought we could have a thread for the left ideologues of politics to hang out in :)

I actually have nothing to do with the formation of this thread. ;)

But being Socialists, I am sure JP will not mind sharing! :)

(Unless this is some right wing plot to pull all of us lefties into the one spot so we can be bombed. How very American your plan is.... looks at everyone in a shifty, suspicious manner.)

So let's start the bit...discussion about the state of our world at the moment.

    Firstly,

The main disadvantages of a globalised economy....

It's time for me to propogate and hopefully prosylyhse you right winger's to a good casue ;)

Individuals within OECD countries have been falling behind as others race ahead and there is a sense that the North-South gap is widening. ( North-South gap refers to Britain ;))

We don?t have a choice as to whether or not to stop globalisation, Australian Treasurer Peter Costello, was quoted as saying ¨Our choice is how to manage it and how to manage it for the benefit of our citizens.¨

Further with the development of a high-tech driven new economy, which holds the distinct possibility of a digital divide which would leave the developing world, and the disadvantaged in developed countries, ever further behind.

Further, from my own research last year in Foundations Of Politics, I found out that Governments are being FORCED to cut public spending on important safety nets for the poor, as a result of having to try to reduce inflation so they can meet the stringent credit ratings imposed by world banks?

Upon considertion of these facts, one wonders whether Australia really is a democracy, or is just a puppet on a string, a large string across the Pacific ;)

We don?t have a choice as to whether or not to stop globalisation, Australian Treasurer Peter Costello, was quoted as saying ¨Our choice is how to manage it and how to manage it for the benefit of our citizens.¨

This is because both sides of politics recognise the benefits of globalsiation. The truth is, there are very few people opposed to this. If there was any serious opposition to it, there would be much more division inb parties.

Upon considertion of these facts, one wonders whether Australia really is a democracy

Where were you last November 10 JP? ;)

Do a first year course in Macroeconomics boy :p

hay you :p, but seriously we don't have much of a choice....just becasue we have a democratic voting system , doesn't mean we're democratic, and as for diviosn in the parties..look if any party tries to distance themselves from globalisation...whoops Australia's economy pays the price :)
