Sports movies aren't about acting or dialogue. They're about that moment when you smile and feel good inside because something cool and uplifting happened. Lou Gehrig's speech is the greatest moment in American sports history, and I frankly think it defines America itself. Any movie with that at its core is instantly awesome.

I hope I'm not the only person who thinks Rocky II is better than the first. I admit the end of the fight is pure cheese, but the rest of the movie is awesome. Look at all the crap Rocky went through in that movie and in the end he's on top of the world. Great stuff.

And to top it off, the Redemption theme by Bill Conti is the best of the series.

You're right. Sorry, I'm the old guy and grew up on great baseball movies like that. It is a great American film w/all of it's faults. Still love it when Gherig promises the sick kid he will hit 2 home runs in the game and does it. A real feel-good moment. And the speech at the end is classic.

Can't believe I forgot Bad News Bears. Has to be one of the greatest baseball movies ever. I'm talking about the 70s movie. Not the remake w/Billy Bob.

Btw, I think Rocky II is better than the first. ;)

I would actually dare say that THE worst sports movie I have ever seen was Goal! The most pathetic attempt to try and glorify the sport of soccer I have ever seen. What made Caddyshack and especially Slapshot such great films was they didn't try to glorify golf or hockey, instead they made a bit of fun out of them. Actually I wonder if there's ever even been a good soccer movie...

Twas alright, although it was much more about cultures clashing than about soccer. Still, a decent film.

I like The Babe (not the one with the piggie :p ), and Fever Pitch, among the ones that haven't been mentionned yet. I also enjoy Major League II almost as much as the first one, they are basically the same thing, but reversed: the bad team contending and the good team having difficulties.

Fever pitch almost ruined the Red Sox win for me because of one person: Jimmy Fallon.

    Tin Cup, for one.

I'm guessing if I thought about it, I could come up with others. But he flamed out gloriously at the US Open.

What's everyone think of Invincible? I like the segment where he's in Training Camp trying to make the team, but other than that it doesn't do much for me.

My problem with Invincible is the same problem I have with Rudy: it's filled with so many things that didn't really happen. That just turns me off for some reason.

I do like the first game against the Cowboys though. It felt like you were really on the field.
