Well, if that's not an in-depth ranking, I don't know what is. I'll have to do a lot of thinking about this.... it's very hard for me personally to place any one scene over another. I mean I suppose I could think up some scenes which stick out to me more than others

I can name my favourite scene from each episode, those being

TPM: Qui-Gon and Shmi discuss Anakin's birth and potential while he works on his pod in the distance

AOTC: Anakin's confession in the garage

ROTS: Oh, so many. I'll just go with Anakin's last conversation with Obi-Wan before turning to the dark side

ANH: "I find your lack of faith disturbing"

TESB: Vader speaks with Palpatine over hologram

ROTJ: Anakin's redemption, death, and appearance as a ghost. Can't decide between any of those

 

I like Anakin's most emotionally powerful scenes, the garage with Padme and Immolation.

From ROTJ, I love going back to Vader's discussion with Luke on Endor.

This. It works very well as part of Star Wars and for a movie in general.

 

I'll go with option B, ranking favorite scenes from each film:

1. ROTJ: Luke goes ballistic on Vader, comes to his senses and rejects the violent path, gets saved by his father in a last minute act of redemption. Such a beautiful piece of mythology.

2. ANH: The trench run. Possibly the most cinematically perfect action climax in history.

3. AOTC: A Harryhausen monster mash turns into an epic Jedi-on-droid battle turns into an even more epic military bonanza. There's a ton of nostalgic weight in this scene for me. This was basically the greatest cinematic gift a 9 year old movie nerd could ever ask for.

4. ESB: Luke meets Vader. Not just the duel itself, but the silent build up. Chilling.

5. ROTS: Anakin vs Obi wan intercut with Yoda vs Palpatine. Pure geek heaven, and a such a powerful visual statement.

6. TPM: Not so much a singular scene, but every wide shot of Theed and Coruscant just makes me chuckle at the amount of imagination being lobbed on screen in 1999.
