    James Traber

Upon the arrival on ship, and sneaking away from the formalities the other people on the expedition were going through, James made his way to what would be his quarters on the ship. This was the reason he preferred conning his way on board as an archaeologist. They got their own rooms. There'd be no sharing for him, unless of course some pretty bird wanted to have some fun. But that likely wasn't going to happen with any of the birds on this boat. Pity, really.

As James sat his bag down he quickly went through it to make sure he had everything. His shovel, his feather duster for any artifacts, those were things needed to pass himself off as some fancy scientist. He was smart, but had no interest in collecting pots for some rich bloke like Shackleford. Next he pulled out rope and some small hooks. These would come in handy should they have to grapple or climb up any mountains. Then came his favorite melee weapons. Two long hooks that stretched out from the handle before coming back in with their point. Actually used for torture in some countries, these were especially good at cutting open human flesh.

James checked his pocket watch, noting it was time to head to the bridge. No doubt the others would be heading their soon. Quickly, he checked his gun, making sure it was ready to go at a moments notice. Sure this was supposed to be a fun trip with no peril. But he had snuck on as something he wasn't, others could have too. And he didn't live this long on the streets of London without being cautious.

The actual bridge meeting, however, was quite dull in its beginning. He stayed to the side, letting the others mingle before Shackleford came in dragging a bird attached to his arm.

"Ah, I'm glad to see you've all settled in. As you are no doubt aware, we are en route to a southern island off the west coast of the Americas, publicly for treasure, gold, and the like. Privately, however, this is a mission of discovery. I have come into posession of an ancient map, that leads the way to a hidden temple, deep within the jungle."

The man paused, before placing a piece of parchment in front of him.

"This temple is said to hold clues of the past, of the people, but more importantly, of those who created humankind."

James couldn't care less. He didn't care about the past of humanity. He didn't care about clues. All he cared about was if that temple had any gold. No bloody history lesson taught by some ancient relic could interest him. Inwardly he sighed, these people were bloody fools.

    IC: Abigail Clere
    Location: London docks, Acta Era

Abigail and Juan de Cuero, her First Mate, stood over the table in the middle of the ships common room. De Cuero was eyeing all of their passengers with piercing eyes. The First Mate despised having so many strange people onboard. The Acta Era barely ever carried passengers across the ocean; it mostly just escorted other ships across or delivered cargo from port to port. Having so many people traveling along had most of the crew a little uneasy.

Quincy and the duchess finally arrived. Gail stood up from her chair and listed at Mr. Shackleford.

"Ah, I'm glad to see you've all settled in. As you are no doubt aware, we are en route to a southern island off the west coast of the Americas, publicly for treasure, gold, and the like. Privately, however, this is a mission of discovery. I have come into possession of an ancient map that leads the way to a hidden temple, deep within the jungle."

He produced a copy of the map he had given the Captain earlier and spread it open on the table.

"This temple is said to hold clues of the past, of the people, but more importantly, of those who created humankind," continued Shackleford.

De Cuero leaned closer to Gail and whispered so that only she could hear. ?They expect to find the remains of Adam and Eve on that island...?

?Juan, try to have an open mind during this voyage. It doesn?t concern us what they find on the island, we only have to get them there and back,? Gail replied in a whisper also. She then raised her voice so that all could hear, ?How long do you expect to be on this island??

    Irvin J. Anderson
Acta Era - London, England Docks

"Mr. Anderson! Glad to see you could join us!"

Anderson nodded when Shackleford addressed him. And when a tip of his hat was given, Irvin returned the favor. He walked up the ramp, past everyone else who had already stepped inside and he was passed a small slip, signaling him to his room and the according Deck. He moved, guided by the note until he stopped in front of a specific door across from James', whom he saw entering his own just a few moments before.

He reached, open the door, and entered himself. He put his old fedora on a coat-hanger, dropping his luggage beside it. Sitting down on the bed, he noticed that it was a bit lumpy, but well made nonetheless. Irvin stared at himself in the mirror, licking his moustache again as he thought.

Anderson's moustache was an odd thing to him. Even though it had nothing to do with it's past, it still brought back bad memories. Maybe it was the fact that his father had similar facial? He couldn?t tell. But he caressed it with one hand, deciding that once the meeting at the ship's bridge was over, he'd come back and shave it off.

He eyed the large grandfather clock at the corner of his room: it was time. He got up, grabbed his rifle, and hid it under the set of pillows at the bed rest. He grabbed hold of his hat and placed it on his head once more, heading to bridge.

Once there, he sat to one side, arms crossed as he studied the room around him. Plenty of hightech clockwork, and picture frames all about; relatives no doubt. The walls were painted differently than the rest of the ship, an odd hue of melon. Suddenly, Shackleford cleared his throat and spoke..

Shackleford then paused to reveal the map that he had been speaking about for some time..

"This temple is said to hold clues of the past, of the people, but more importantly, of those who created humankind."

Soon, a question came, coming from Abigail's direction.

?How long do you expect to be on this island??

Irvin paused briefly to eye the map himself, before speaking out..

"I have a better question.. where and how did you find this map?"

    Quincy

Quincy's lips turned up in a smile.

"I expect to be on the island for not more than a week. And, Mr. Anderson, it was an archaeological find." he said, fully honest.

It was, indeed, true. Quincy's last team had uncovered it in Rio de Janeiro, unearthing it next to what could only be Mayan and Aztec artifacts. Quincy, however, hadn't been so sure. He had them checked and referenced with index fossils and artifacts, and there was no way they could be Aztec artifacts. They were too old. Going back further, scientists found that they weren't even Mayan.

They were far older, and made of unknown materials.

"But," he said, continuing on from his last comment, "this was no mere find. The artifacts found at the Rio de Janeiro site were far too old to be Mayan or Aztec. They were ancient, as old as some Egyptian finds. Older, in fact."

What? Hadn't this Quincy guys said they were looking for Mayan or Aztec gold when he was hired? Tate had to speak up. He tilted his head, the light hitting his rough features, while his eyes remained hidden under the shade of his hat.

"Hold up a secon'." He spoke in his rough voice with a 'think American accent.' He definatly sounded out of place on this boat. "Now I know them peoples from down Mexico way us'd alotta gold...you'd best be tellin' me tha' them Egyptian's or who'er did the same."

His hand sat down by his hips...not on his pistols but close enough. Not that it would be much of a fight...all these Europeans were nothing compared to the fighting power of an American. Hell...America had already taught them that a few times.

    Quincy stared evenly at Heckle.

"You won't be needing that pistol, now, Mr. Heckle." he said evenly. "There'll be gold, and lots of it. You do your job, you get your share. What I'm saying is that this may be a richer discovery than was previously thought."

Quincy scanned his gaze over the assembled team.

"There's only one problem: it may or may not be guarded by an ancient brotherhood." continued Quincy.

Quincy's eyebrows raised when Rick spoke.

"Mr. Whatson, you surprise me! No fear for an ancient cult, yet rival pilots get you nervous? Have no fear. The pilot is completely trustworthy, as he's an old friend of mine. Name of Bergery, went across the pond for a little adventure, ended up staying." Quincy laughed at the memory.

"I assure you, Bergery's no treasure hunter. He's quite happy to fly by day, and spend lavishly on dinner parties at night." It was true that Bergery was quite well known for his parties and soirees, and the man was incredibly wealthy. Quincy often cursed his fortunes at becoming a publisher, and not a regional accountant.

Turning back to Abigail, Quincy said, "Captain, if you'd be so kind, bring us to the island."

With a tip of his hat, Quincy turned, and, ducking beneath the low door, left to his room. On the way, he said quickly to Asad, "Watch for boarders tonight, Asad. News of our plight has no doubt spread."

As Quincy headed off to his room, Asad smiled.

    "No doubt it has, sir."

Shackelford turned back to Gail after a quick discussion with Watson about the pilot of the airship.

"Captain, if you'd be so kind, bring us to the island" he said with spirit.

Gail smiled smirked playfully. ?Aye, Mr. Shackleford? she said, and then turned back to her First Mate. ?Get the crew on deck. We sail for Tierra Fuego.?

?Aye, Ma?am? agreed de Cuero with his usual overly firm voice. The First Mate stepped out of the common room and out to deck.

Gail turned to her passengers and said ?You might as well get comfortable. It?ll be a five week voyage to reach the Caribbean if the weather favors us. Try not to annoy my crew; they tend to get nervious around land duelers.?

With that, Gail made her way out of the common room and up to the bridge and stood next to the helmsman. The crew had everything on deck ready, so the only thing between her and the destination was now an ocean.

?Move out of the docks and keep heading ?till the horizon? she told the helmsman. The young lad did as instructed and signaled the dock officials to release the rope tying the to the pier. In a moment the ship was moving away from the Britain capital and out to sea.

He didn't think anyone had noticed his hands. Not that he meant anything by them...it was just a precaution.

He kept his mouth shut, but secretely welcomed an ancient brotherhood. If they thought they could get past his guns they were in for a rude awakening.

Another man spoke of cults and fights...he didn't like that one. Didn't trust him. Just like that one didn't trust outside people. What did he know...Hell...judging by his speach pattern, he wasn't even well educated.

"Iâ??m not stopping my ship on any dock on eastern America"

He brought his head out of the clouds of deep thought.

"G--" He started to speak, before being cut off by Quincy. All the better...exchanges about his home land usually lead to gun fire.

It wasn't long untill the ship was moving out-to-sea, and he in-to-cabin.

He set his few belongings on a bed, along whit his rifle scabbord, and then quickly returned to the upper deck. He always loved sailing...the soft sea breeze in your face...the mellow cry of gulls as waves slapped against the hull...the exchange of gun fire as pirates boarded your ship...Ah...this was the life....

He found himself a barrel to sit upon...and watched as they sailed away from that cursed Isle...and out to adventure.

As the Acta Era began it's long journey, wheels were turning. The Brotherhood had been made aware, and had sent after the ship an ornithopter filled with Temple Guards.

Meanwhile, life continued on the ship, albeit with a little tension. Shackleford's expedition was going smoothly, except for the heavy cloud cover.

Three days into the journey, as the ship neared South America, and Terra Neuvo of the ancient Mayans, the ornithopter began catching up. Heavy clouds still covered the sky, and Asad was eagerly awaiting the night.

    IC: James Traber, onboard ship

James hadn't listened all to well as to what the others had been talking about. He didn't care about such things as finding out mysteries. The only mystery he cared about was getting gold from the ruins for himself. What did make his ears perk up, however, was the mention of the cult that protected the ruin. Not that he was worried, he was far from that, it was just nice to know to be on edge. If there truly was a cult, they probably wouldn't wait till they reached the island.

James dispersed with the others back to his quarters, where he spent the following two days. He only came out for drink, food, and to use the restroom. All his other time was spent reading a book he'd found in the nightstand, looking outside, and readying his weapons. He had no need or want to socialize with anyone at the moment, if something happened he didn't want to somehow be close with whoever is the traitor, as there was bound to be one. No...best to just stick with himself and be ready for anything that may come. If nothing comes, and they reach the island just fine...well...then he'll think about making comrades. Until then, however, only his safety was paramount.

She wanted to be as prepared as possible for what was about to come, she didn't quite trust this rag tag group with her life. She had smuggled a sharp knife from the gally and had to hope that it might be of some use should something happen. She was trained in hand to hand combat, and even though she was small she could hold her on.

Maggie sighed and slipped off her glasses. Rubbing the bridge of her nose she turned out her light and laid down to sleep.

    GM Post

As the days passed, the Acta Era neared Tierra del Fuego. Kenneth Bergery made the rounds, dropping off fuel and supplies. While the others looked on, Quincy exchanged whispered words with the accountant-turned-pilot.

The day went by, uneventfully. Cloud and fog still plagued the journey, and that very night, Asad's plans came to fruition...

    Quincy P. Shackleford

Before heading to bed, Quincy went for a brisk, night-time walk around the boat. The night was reasonably calm, and the waves sloshed against the hull, a soothing sound, to be sure.

As he neared the stern, he heard a scrabbling sound, and then a dull thud. Ignoring it, he began walking - what was that? A glint of metal caught his eye, and stopped, peering at it. A grappling hook? What was - oh dear Lord...

Quincy grabbed the head of his cane, yanking on it hard. It came off, followed by a silvery blade, and he swung at the rope, hearing a scream as the man climbing it fell into the ocean.

"We're being boarded!" he bellowed, his voice breaking the calm silence.
