Summer 2009 Role Playing Forum Awards

Welcome to the Summer 2009 RPF Awards!

Please be sure to review the entire post (even if you?ve done this before) to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Purpose of the Awards
Our role playing forums are very special ? unique in their quality and community. We come here to play, but also to work. It?s not easy to build a successful game or navigate through the galaxy with a character. It?s especially challenging now, with three distinct forums dedicated to different aspects of role playing. Many of you dedicate significant amounts of your free time to make this place the best it can be.

These awards have been established in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of you ? our users. The VIPships and publicity awarded to winners are meant to serve as both a reward for a job well done and a way to increase visibility. It is hoped that others will learn from their example, and that they will continue to serve as leaders of these role playing forums.

How it works
Awards are held four times per year, in April (Spring), July (Summer), October (Autumn) and January (Winter).

The four categories for awards are:

Best GM
Best Roleplayer
Best RPG (Star Wars and Non-Star Wars)
Best New RPG (Star Wars and Non-Star Wars)

New RPGs are defined as any active game less than three (3) months old and have over 50 posts at the time of nomination (once a game crosses the 50 post threshold, it may be nominated so long as the window to do so is still open). RPGs must be active (no locked threads may be nominated).

Voting will consist of two rounds:

Round 1:
[ul][li]Lasts for five (5) days[/li]
[li]A time to nominate any active RPG or player[/li]
[li]Once a thread/player has been nominated once, please refrain from nominating them again (one nomination is sufficient to save a spot on the ballot)[/li]
[li]Users may not nominate themselves for awards[/li]
[li]All users may make a total of two (2) nominations per category[/li][/ul]
Any RPG that wins an award becomes ineligible for next season's awards, to ensure fairness and variety. Any players who win awards will be ineligible until the next year.

Round 2
[ul][li]Begins immediately after the results of Round 1 are posted[/li]
[li]A list of all the nominees will be compiled for members to pursue[/li]
[li]You then have seven (7) days to PM your votes from the choices to the host[/li]
[li]Users have the option of voting for up to three (3) people in the Best RPer and best GM categories, and up to two (2) games in the Games categories[/li][/ul]

***Campaigning (ie, soliciting votes and/or nominations) at any time during the awards, in any thread, in any forum, is absolutely not allowed!***
The winners will be announced at the end of Round 2.
Prizes
As always, the part you've all been waiting for.

The winning GMs and Roleplayers will each be awarded VIPship (with the ability to choose custom colors) for one week. In addition, they will earn a place in the "RPF Hall of Fame" in the Community Centre. The winning RPGs will receive a special place in the introductory sticky thread, as well as the right to the title of "Best RPG," until the next season's winners are announced. Moderators are allowed to win Awards, but their prize will be limited to recognition alone. When a moderator places in the Best GM/RPer category, the top three contenders will be recognized, with the two non-mods getting colors. Two non-moderator users are guaranteed colors for every awards season.
The "RPF Stars" Awards

Winners of the RPF Stars Awards will not receive titles or colors, but they are encouraged to place their titles in their sig or bio. The idea behind these awards is to provide recognition for exemplary

Okay, I´ll begin . . .

Nominations

Best GM:
1. Imperial_Hammer
I have lately begun to lurk Oz . . . which I must say was highly entertaining. So I waited for my chance to nominate him. Also, like my second nominee he has shown geat expertise in Gamingtheory and brought forth many insightful observations that will advance the future games of his students.

2. LordTroepfchen
He has created a small game within my game which is a little dream and not only created the daring 133ABY-TheColdEmbrace, but also sat through the summer-crisis and survived it, making it work again. He is a capacity in gaming theory and helped many Gms including me to develop their games and stories. A secret backbone of the RPF who never demands recognition or praise fo it, yet deserves it.

Best RPer:
1. Mitth_Fisto
I nominated him last time, I do it again. A brilliant player and endless source of great characters. Reliable, creative and a backbone of every storyline he is involved with.

2. DarthXan
It is always a pleasure to play with her. It is always a pleasure to read her posts. The RPF wouldn´t be what it is without her. So I think a position as Morderatrix is not enough. She needs an award as bonus ;)

Best Star Wars RPG:
1. Star Wars: Episode VI - As Father and Son - Part 2
It´s gone through rough times, it still does. But it is alive and kicking. And it features amazing characters, players and storylines. As it is available again for vote, I think I have no more worthy game for the award than BobaMatt´s AFAS and all it´s wonderful players.

2. -

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. Oz: The Heart of Emerald
It´s unique, it is brilliant and it is something I like to read . . . and I am not a typical lurker.
2. -

Best New Star Wars RPG:
1. ~ A Tale from the Fringe ~ The Bounty Hunter Alliance
I have watched this game grow. It is still young, but made a great opening and assembled great characters. I am looking forward to see it unfold and think it has made an amazing start.
2. STAR WARS: INTERVENTION (A story-telling style OT starfighter game)
An instant hit and great premise (also not my cup of tea) I admire and respect the great craftmanship and ideas that went into this. It deserves to be recognized as one of the RPFs future highlights.

Best New Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. Dragon Warriors: Bloodlines
Another instant hit. Another game I think is not for me. But again . . . it is brilliantly done. Maybe not my taste but I find myself reading in it sometimes. An achievment. With a great future.

I loved the profound characterization of this little post. By being shot the true nature of the enigmaticVulture is finally revealed and who would have thought it is so . . . angry?

I wanna add that in both main categories BEST GM and BEST PLAYER I had many more people I wanted to nominate than I could. Not to speak of the peopel that were not allowed . . . I think that is a good thing :)

Best GM:
1. DarkLordoftheFins ~ if you get after me for this i'll skin you.:p you deserve this as much as anyone fins. you've had one heck of a successful game, and it has basically completely ignored the summer drought. to many future successes.

2. greyjedi125 ~ i don't think this needs any explanation at all, but i'll give some anyway. grey, you have proved yourself yet again to be an extraordinary GM with dragon warriors. simply amazingly well done game. i'm enjoying it vastly. and yes, i know you need another post from me.:p

NOTE: there are many others i would nominate, one in particular who is just as deserving as these two, but i get the feeling someone else will pick them up. if not it'll be a crying shame given how that particular person is nommed whenever they can be for VERY good reason.

Best RPer: (dear god, thank you for nomming those two fins. saved me from doing it.)
1. DarkLordoftheFins ~ see my comment above about skinning...;) not many can claim to be exemplary at both GMing and RPing fins, but you manage it somehow. you have my respect and i have enjoyed every single post of yours that i have ever read.

2. WINKWINK ~ i'm going to bet most of you have no clue who my brother is. or some may think he's me in a sock a la miss xan checking IP addies, but this is not the case. i could never hope to capture any of his characters the way he has. quite frankly, i can't do it. his characters are absolutely unique, and have VERY different quirks and character. while is grammar/typing may not be the best, if you can look past that you'll see some RPing at it's absolute best. read something he's done in shadow games, clans 3, the force cold war or aria and you'll see what i mean. great job bro.

Best Star Wars RPG:

1. EUC-RPF Masters Tournament ~ yes, i know this is not your traditional RPG, but it has produced some truly exemplary RPing in the recent past and i honestly think it deserves this nomination. call me crazy if you want, but i've thoroughly enjoyed every single post in that thread. here's to many more in the future, and some other tourney's as well.

2. 133 ABY - The Dark Odyssey ~ wouldn't make since to be nomming best GM without nomming his game, now would it? admitedly, i haven't been following this game, but i have peeked in and what i've seen has been some absolutely amazing story. it is, quite frankly, one of the only three other games that get discussed in hoopers, and it has almost as much of that as does man cubs. truly a marvel how it has thrived during this lean period as well.

NOTE: again, there are other games i would nominate, one that is perennially nommed when it's allowed to be, so i'm not too terribly worried about it.

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. Tide of Flames

2. Way of the Ninja

NOTE: i think those really speak for themselves.

Best New Star Wars RPG:
1. The Machine Wars

2. EUC-RPF Masters Tournament

Best New Non-Star Wars RPG:

any i would nom haven't started yet, so don't know if they're nom worthy or not.

YOU MAY ONLY MAKE ONE NOMINATION PER CATEGORY IN THIS SECTION

RPF Stars Awards
1. Most Entertaining GM: greyjedi125 (you ever RPed with him?)
2. Most Educational GM: Sinrebirth (i've learned a lot from watching him. wish i could nom more than one here however.)

4. Best Character Design: WINKWINK (see above)

I hope I do this right . . . but I´ll just follow people´s example.

Best GM:
1. DarkLordoftheFins - overlooked last award-season, he is the creator of the most complex game around here, is a master of creepy and dark as well as epic action scenes and has lead his game through the "player-crisis" is if there was none. He also has created the greatest "unchained"-narrative puzzle I have seen so far and hasn´t even showed off with it . . .
2. -

Best RPer:
1. Saintheart - he isn´t playing a lot. But I tuned in on AFAS for his Lando. Loved the posts. Together with Fin´s Kruhk he had such great moments.
2. sprintabm - a very secure hold on his characters and the ability to think and play different from what others do. One of these guys who do not make a big fuss about ONE POST, but everytime you read ´em you feel the game is what it is because of them. Both Casino Royale and 133 ABY (where he does two chars in two timeslines) are defined by his presence

Best Star Wars RPG:
1. 133 ABY: The Dark Odyssey - It is a rich puzzle spanning over 300 years of history for those who read it all and throw themselves deep into it but it is also a fast-paced action-adventure for those who just enjoy the ride. Background, pacing and great characters by the finest players come together here . . . can´t wait for the finale. But I think it should go there with an award . . .
2. 41 ABY - Shadow Games - This game had a long hiatus. But has finally returned. Twisting, speeding tale of darkness and despair with a mystery in it´s core . . . it is a mighty fine read. Because you NEVER know what happens next. I admire it and therefore can´t nominate a Best Star Wars game without it on the list . . .

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
None (my lurking concentrated on SW gmes, lately. Therefore I keep my mouth shut, where I have no clue)

Best New Star Wars RPG:

Best New Non-Star Wars RPG:

RPF Stars Awards

2. Most Educational GM: DarkLordoftheFins (he helps people a lot. His mistake: he doesn´t talk about it. Some games, players and ideas are out there because of his support. Including some of my own)
3. Best Game Design: hm . . . dunno
4. Best Character Design: DarkLordoftheFins (making K´Kruhk to Ole´Gurn, psychpathic Key´lya and insane Lorn . . . creepy Walter Kane . . . creativity, range, reliability)
5. Best Opening / Most Potential At Opening: -
6. Most Improved RPer: Seermerala (correct spelling? Loved her work in AU Tatooine.)

Couple of notes!

1) We're still in the Nominations phase - please don't PM me votes yet. ;) Post your nominations in the thread.

2) You may only nominate one (1) person for each Stars award. If you nominate two people I won't count either - feel free to redo the nomination for that award, though, if you did that.

3) Re-nominate people who have already been nominated if you like. Especially for the Stars awards, where only the top 3 nominees go through to the voting phase.

Keep 'em coming guys. :D
