It looks like Abigail Fisher lost today-- 4-3 against her.

It's disgusting to know that there are people celebrating that ruling in well-appointed rooms, and who will never have to deal with the real world ramifications of their work.

Meanwhile, Republicans can't figure out why Hispanics won't vote for them.

This will ultimately be a gift for the Democrats.

Trump won't be able to keep himself from gloating over this ruling, like the way he crowed about "predicting" Orlando.

Is the term done, or do they still have the Texas abortion case to rule on?

    So it'll come then.

I'm kinda hoping they rule against the liberal side; it may help Hillary in November.

"Normal" voters don't think that way.

Political junkies know better than to think only in that reactionary kind of way, they'll have already thought about all the issues and know where they'll stand and which party is better on those issues.

Yeah, no one should wish a ruling against women who desperately need the help of the court system to not be grievously harmed...

I submitted a post that just disappeared.

Clinton won't need the help in November. Women affected by the ruling (which is a high number, both current and future) need help now. I don't think it's okay or above-board to wish for a lot of women to effectively have their rights taken from them just for some vague possibility that it could be politically helpful (which I don't think it would be, though that's really beside the point).

Guys, my post was tongue-in-cheek. I wasn't being serious.

I thought I had added a "face-plain" markup code to my words, but I was posting from a hospital computer and got paged the minute I hit click; I didn't check to see how the post looked and simply closed the browser and haven't been online before now.

My point was (and I apologize if it wasn't clear), that a divided court is a giant disaster. I'm fearful that the Court will indeed rule against women, which would be a terrible thing. As a physician, of course I don't want a ruling that politically interferes in medical practice and puts women at risk. I'm not optimistic on how this will turn out, though. Hopefully Anthony Kennedy will do the right thing.

Interestingly, the only difference Scalia made by being dead for the UT case was actually having the court decide it, rather than it being affirming the lower court decision with a split vote.

The McDonnell appeal will also likely come Monday.

How does Anthony Kennedy feel about the court being comprised of eight? Probably makes him even more important for a time.

What, Texas doesn't have the right to regulate abortion as a medical procedure wildly inconsistently from the way it regulates other safe and effective outpatient medical procedures?

I don't know why people worried about this case. Seems like a straightforward application of Casey to me. How could it be anything but an undue burden? Maybe I'm just too partial on this issue, but I thought it an easy 5-3.

I guess it's probably because the trend over the decades has been a constant reduction and restriction on abortion rights. But these always that force clinics to close for no good reason -- it's like they're not even trying to be subtle anymore.

It was a unanimous decision -- 8-0 -- so it's not like it should be terribly surprising?
