I consider myself to be reasonably clued when it comes to PC stuff.

I can build one from it's components and I can fix most of the mechanical issues witha deft sweep of my soldering iron.

However when it comes to the software I rather crap.

I have two issues at the moment.

    1. I cannot play any streaming movies on my PC. e.g I go on youtube and the clip I want to watch doesn't play. I get the Q for quicktime that shows up nicely in bold blue initially and then fades to a paler translucent colour and no clip is forthcoming regardless how long I wait.

I get this on both mozilla and IE.

how the hell do I fix this?

Can I change the media player within my explorer window to fix this to flash or media player? and if so how do I do it>

    2. After downloading lost for bittorrent I have no idea how to turn the data into a file I can watch.

Sometimes it will download and the media player tab will show that then allows me to watch it, but otherwise I'm stumped.

I currently have episodes 14-20 to watch and I can only watch 16 due to this.

again any help will gratefully be recieved.

Feel free to raise you technical issues in this thread after you helped fix my problems.

    Cheers

can't help you with quicktime, but as for lost, if you download vlc media player (for free) you should be able to watch any video file going. just right click the file and "open with vlc media player". there should be an orange traffic cone icon on the file you want to open. piece of cake.

I have VLC and it's very good.

It won't however play the files for lost as they are downloaded as zip/rar files.

I can extract them but it still won't play them

    Yup, still a no go.

I need to know how to convert them as if to play on a dvd player as I can burn them in that case.

I'm also sick of downloading lost.

    I've downloaded ep14 7 times. 3 of them were porno's

It was very annoying. You get it downloaded and sit down with the missus to watch it, then you up having to turn it off (and hide it in the safe secure place she doesn't know about ;) ) and then get the next one only for it to be the same or similar.

I had loads of explaining to do that night. [face_frustrated]

From experience Quicktime is particularly awkward when playing certain content from the web. Do you have the latest version of Quicktime installed? If you do have it installed, do you have the most up to date plugins installed for the web browser you wish to use?

Your second problem may not be so straight forward, for a starters do you know the file extension of the torrent download?

I'm assuming you know litrally nothing here for the sake of simplifying this.

Step one: Download a BitTorrent Client. My personal fave is uTorrentwhen in Windows which I'm guessing is your OS.

Step two: Install the client, or if it's uTorrent just open it and it'll ask you if you want to associate .torrent files with it. Select yes.

Step three: Download a torrent. remember the more seeders the better. Seeders = People who're sharing the torrent files and have it fully downloaded, Leechers = people downloading the file. You can download bits of either of them.

Step four: Double click on the downloaded torrent and it should automatically open up in your prefarred client. Wait for it to connect to the torrent and download.

Step five: If you have a router you can speed up your potential speeds by find the name and model of it on this site and following the instructions. :)

    OR

Download Opera 9 beta 2 here and use that as your web browser. With it you can download torrents like they're downloads of a server without any configurations. It's also easy to switch of if you decide you'ld rather use a client but keep using Opera aswell.

    1. Google it! :)

    2. What is the file extension for the movies?

To see the file extension (if you cant) then

  11. go to the folder you have the files in

  12. select Tools

  13. then selectFolder Options...

  14. then the View tab

  15. in the list uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'

  16. and then hit Apply- this should show all the extensions after every file.

It seems like you have associated Quicktime with all video file extensions. You need to go into Windows Explorer then tools, folder options, files and change the associations to something more suitable. This site lists most of the file extensions.
