    Conference play 123go!

    GALAC (PRENN) vs. WFZ (LloydOut)

Game 1. Los Angeles County or thereabouts.

    GALAC 104, WFZ 115

Kevin Garnett was one assist away from the triple double, pulling down 12 rebounds and putting up 31 points to lead his team. James also had 30, and totaled 14 assists. The Zone got it done with superior rebounding and competent shooting. Tim Duncan led his team with 21 points in a losing, and otherwise unremarkable effort.

    Game 2. OhiO.

    WFZ 120, GALAC 85

Riding their road victory, winning came easy for the Zone at home, thanks to 38 points and 11 assists from LeBron. The F*#@!NG rebounds came easy as well as the team totaled 63, with KG getting 19 and Mutombo 16; they both had double doubles.

The Asspicks struggled to score, going 33 of 89 for the game, and seem ill-prepared for the Cleveland block party (they had 17 in the win).

    Game 3. Still Ohio.

The second game didn't go quite as smoothly at home for the F*#@!NG Zone, as GALAC rallied in the second to take the lead at halftime, but they couldn't hang on as the F*#@!ERS rolled past in the third to hang on for the win, WFZ 122, GALAC 117.

Tim Duncan had 10 rebounds and 24 points to lead his team in the loss, and his team shot better, but not better than the Zone's 56%. The home team also had 50 rebounds and put up another 15 blocks. James did everything on his way to player of the game honors with 28 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 blocks.

    Game 4. LA.

    GALAC 94, WFZ 107
If the Good Asspicks didn't put up much of a fight at home to avoid the sweep, as they were outscored in each of the first 3 quarters. They were outplayed by the F*#@ERS in just about every way. It was really just not much of a contest for the entire series. Why did they even bother showing up? is what their fans are probably asking them on twitter and other social media outlets. Just. Probably the worst series ever.

LeBron James was named player of the game for the third straight game, but did not score 30 points, in what pundits are calling a "kind of disappointing outing". "Where was the triple double?" fans asked. "Where was the effort?"

We're in the F*#@!NG ZONE! wins the series, 4-0.

Game, Blouses (Point Given) vs. Dwightmare on Elm Street (RX_Sith)

    Game 1. On the Deleware.

The home team holds on in overtime, Game, Blouses, 126, Dwightmare on Elm Street, 136. After struggling early in the game, Game, Blouses managed to pull ahead early in the fourth, as the game went back and forth with the quarter winding down. In the final minutes, the visiting team was in control, holding a 3 point lead until Bob Pettit was fouled on a put-back and converted the 3 point play. After Wade put the Blouses up 2 with 16 seconds left, Allen Iverson and the Dwightmares wouldn't go away, as he made the bucket at the buzzer to force OT, where Dwightmare went 8/9 at the line, and was able to pull ahead.

Both teams shot over 50%, made 24 free throws, had 53 rebounds, and went 2/7 from 3 point territory. Kareem led all players in blocks and rebounds, Wade led all players in points, KJ led all players in assists, but it wasn't enough, even as nearly four players scored 20 points.

Game 2. One 2 hour drive on I-95 North later.

Going home didn't help, Game, Blouses, 100, Dwightmare on Elm Street, 109. Free Throws mattered, as Elm Street sank 18 to Blouses' 6. Once again, what didn't matter was the game's leading scorer (Anthony), passer (Barkley), or rebounder (Barkley-tied first). It was Dwightmare's team effort 60 rebounds that allowed their inferior 46% shooting to not slow them down, as they scored just one less basket than the Blouses.

    Game 3. New Yooooooooork.

It was Nightmare on Broadway, as Dwightmare took their second game on the road, Game, Blouses 108, Dwightmare on Elm Street, 119. Possessions have been the story at Madison Square Garden so far, as Dwightmare led in rebounds once again. They were able to take 15 more shots than the Blouses, and, despite shooting worse, again, it was enough to get them the win. This time, however, it was the Elm Street individuals leading it. Iverson had 24 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds on his way to player of the game honors; the third Dwightmare to be named so.

    Game 4. Philly.

With one last chance to save their dignity, Game, Blouses made the short road trip to close the series. Dwightmare seemed to be in control early in the first, getting out ahead by 5 for most of the first 6 minutes. But after Barkley tied it up at 15 with 6 minutes to go in the quarter, momentum began to shift, and then snowball in favor of the Blouses, as they led at halftime by 15. By the end of the third quarter, they were up by 20. And when the final buzzer blared, it was 24. Game, Blouses, 135, Dwightmare on Elm Street, 111.

The Blouses learned their lessons well enough, out shooting Dwightmare at the line and on the floor, while pulling in more rebounds. They were 6/10 from beyond the arc, and dropped 45 dimes. Alonzo Mourning made the most of his 14 minutes with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and a team high 4 blocks. Kareem was named player of the game with 11 rebounds and 21 points. Dwight Howard had 17 rebounds in the loss.

Dwightmare on Elm street wins the series, 3-1.

Heffalumps and Woozles (heels) vs. L.A. Courtsiders (Darth Tunes)

Alright, Sports Fans. We've got a couple of teams starting conference play with their seasons already starting in opposite directions. The Woozles were wonderful in their opener, taking a pair of games to give them confidence. Meanwhile, the Courtsideres got bamboozled, getting thumped twice - in their home arena - to open the season. There were rumors after the second game that the owner of the Courtsiders was going to make insensitive racist remarks, in hopes his team got taken away from him.

But, enough of that. Onto the action we go.

Heffalumps and Woozles at L.A. Courtsiders

    L.A. Courtsiders 104, Heffalumps and Woozles 101
    Full Play-by-Play

It took a 14-point, 12-assist, 5-rebound effort from Magic Johnson.

It took 25 points from Bernard King.

It took all 26 of their trips to the charity stripe.

It took almost blowing a 10-point lead in the final 80 seconds of the game.

But, at long last, the L.A. Courtsiders have won a game at the Forum!

Magic Johnson keyed an efficient offense that shot 48.8% from the field, and took advantage of their large edge at the free throw line, missing only 4 of their 26 attempts. Magic's defense also played a huge role, with Chris Paul limited to 3/12 shooting (though he did get 15 dimes).

Kevin Love and Michael Jordan each scored 21 for the Woozles.

L.A. Courtsiders at Heffalumps and Woozles

    L.A. Courtsiders 134, Heffalumps and Woozles 130
    Full Play-by-Play

Hakeem Olajuwan couldn't hit his shot at the buzzer at the end of the fourth quarter.

Chris Paul couldn't connect on his at the end of overtime.

The difference? Paul needed his to extend the game, and that meant the Courtsiders' redemption run continued, mirrored by a WTF run of bad luck for the Woozles.

Magic Johnson again put on an all-around performance, with 12 points, 15 assists, and 8 rebounds, while Olajuwan dominated inside with 28 points and 13 rebounds. The offense was even more efficient this time - shooting 54.4% from the field, and got to the line nearly as often as in the series-opener.

The Woozles were almost as efficient, shooting 51%, but their love of the triple may have doomed them, as a 3-for-10 effort leaves them wondering "what if?"

Michael Jordan again lead the Woozles with 25 points.

L.A. Courtsiders at Heffalumps and Woozles

    Heffalumps and Woozles 120, L.A. Courtsiders 110
    Full Play-by-Play

A three-point lead entering the fourth quarter have the Courtsiders reason to believe in a chance at returning home and looking for a four-game sweep.

An emphatic fourth quarter gave the Woozles the confidence they might need to salvage a split.

A momentum-turning 10-0 run by H&W, featuring a personal 6-0 run by Amar'e Stoudamire, and a 7-0 run from Michael Jordan (in the span of sixty seconds) when the Courtsiders had gotten to back within one helped to seal the game. Jordan scored 9 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Dirk Nowitzki was the leading scorer for the Woozles, pouring in 26 to lead all scorers .

Magic, again, lead the Courtsiders, with 22 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Heffalumps and Woozles at L.A. Courtsiders

    L.A. Courtsiders 104, Heffalumps and Woozles 102
    Full Play-by-Play

    Bad Luck.

That's what H&W can chalk it up to.

Kevin Love had a chance to put his team up with less than 20 seconds left. He missed.

Michael Jordan couldn't finish seconds later.

Chris Paul had the game winner in his hands with 2 seconds left. He, too, missed.

And, with that, the L.A. Courtsiders survived, and took the series 3-1.

Magic Johnson had 18 points, 14 assists, and 5 rebounds to key his teams efforts, while 22 points from Bernard King, and 11/11 from Hakeem Olajuwan (including the game sealing rebound with seconds remaining) helped the efforts greatly.

Dirk Nowitki had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Kevin Love had 17 and 12, while MJ scored 22. But, all of that couldn't help the Woozles overcome 3-of-15 shooting from downtown.

42 (TAFKA trimaj) vs. M.E.H. (Gunny)

Two teams that could not be closer in the standings (admittedly, we're only two games in, so that's not saying much). The record is the same. The point differential is only off by 2. 42 will be saying "Thank God we're done with LeBron James", while the Hipsters Hoopsters will be saying "well, we dealt with Dwight Howard ... oh ****, it's Shaq!"

    Most Excellent Hoopsters at 42

    42 105, M.E.H. 100
    Full Play-by-Play

Four letters were all you needed to describe this game:

    S, H, A, and Q.

The Big Diesel had 16 points, 18 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 steals for an all around performance that left the Hoopsters feeling like they got run over by a Diesel Truck. Just to show off, Shaq was a perfect 2-for-2 from the line (his team, for the game was an amazing 18/20)

Kevin McHale added 24 points and 12 rebounds to help Shaw significantly outshine their all-time-great counterparts in the front court. Karl Malone had 19 points and 6 rebounds, while David Robinson had 18 and 4.

    42 @ Most Excellent Hoopsters

    M.E.H. 107, 42 98
    Full Play-by-Play

The Hoopsters didn't stay down for long, however. A sizzling first-quarter put them up by 11 early. A dominating second quarter meant it was all over at halftime with a 26-point lead.

Shaq didn't get to dominate the paint - his seven blocks dropped to zero. David Robinson (19 points, 16 rebounds) and Karl Malone (19 points, 12 rebounds) got comfortable in the paint. and 42 only got to the line 10 times.

Kevin McHale had another impressive game - 18 points, 10 rebounds - but it wasn't enough for his team.

    42 @ Most Excellent Hoopsters

    M.E.H. 119. 42 115
    Full Play-by-Play

This time it was 42 that came out of the gate with guns blazing, racing to a 13-point lead just halfway through the first quarter.

M.E.H., however, showed their resolve. They chipped away at the lead throughout the second quarter. But, every time they'd get within a point or two, 42 would answer and reestablish. M.E.H. never gave up, though, and finally took the lead with just under 2 minutes to play in the half, and took the lead into the locker room on a buzzer-beating David Robinson jumper.

A wild, wild fourth quarter was the perfect cap for this game, and the two teams combined for 77 points in the final quarter alone.

In the end, however, a great team performance out-shined a great game from Shaq, and M.E.H. took the game.

Shaq scored 32 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, and blocked four shots. but 7 Hoopsters scored double-digits. Shaq's highest scoring teammate had 13 (that was Rick Berry). David Robinson (21 points, 9 rebounds), John Stockton (20 points), Karl Malone (17 points), and Vince Carter (15 points) all topped that total.

    Most Excellent Hoopsters at 42

    42 104, M.E.H. 95
    Full Play-by-Play

42 returned home. Shaq returned to his dominance of paint enforcement. And the team returned to their winning ways.

Shaq's 28 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks lead the way for his team. He got good help from Jerry West (15 points, 7 assists) and Rick Barry (16 points).

Karl Malone (14 points, 11 rebounds) and David Robinson (11 points, 10 rebounds) had double-doubles, but couldn't quite get their team to a series-clinching victory, meaning both teams had to settle for a split in which the home team won all four games.

Ball Don't Lie All-Stars (NYJ) vs. Bird is the Word (DLOTE)

One team riding high - preseason publications picking them to win it all, a sweep to open the season, and a dominant player to build around. The other? A mixed bag. Some preseason magazines picked them at or near the bottom. But, not to despair, they have clipped those predictions, posted them in the locker room, and have used them as motivation. A season-opening split has them believing they can prove the nay-sayers wrong. Let's find out if they can, as the Battle for Boston is on!

Ball Don't Lie All-Stars at Bird is the Word

Ball Don't Lie All-Stars 97, Bird is the Word 87
    Full Play-by-Play

Defense. That was the name of the game this time around. And a stifling defense from Ball Don't Lie got them a "road" win.

Ball Don't Lie dominated the paint, notching an impressive 58-47 lead. Ball Don't lie had a stifling defense, limiting Bird is the Word to 38% shooting.

And, they had a three-headed monster on defense. Wilt Chamberlain lead the way with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Bob McAdoo added 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Julius Erving had 18 points 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

Gary Payton's 15 points lead Bird is the Word.

Bird is the Word at Ball Don't Lie All-Stars

Ball Don't Lie All-Stars 99, Bird is the Word 95
    Full Play-by-Play

Get to the line. Win in the paint. Don't settle for bad shots.

That was the mantra for the Ball Don't Lie All-Stars. Get to the line.

That, and a rare clutch miss from Larry Bird, got them the win in the second game of the series.

The two teams were evenly matched. They shot similarly (44.9% for Bird is the Word, 43.2% for Ball Don't Lie). But Ball Don't Lie had 9 more trips to the charity stripe, converted 6 more points from the line, had a massive 61-45 rebounding edge, and watched their opponents hoist nine more triples than they did.

Wilt Chamberlain (16 points, 17 rebounds), Julius Erving (20 points, 15 rebounds), and Elgin Baylor (21 points, 8 rebounds) lead the way for Ball Don't Lie. Patrick Ewing (20/8) and Elvin Hayes (13/12) lead the way for the Word.

Ball Don't Lie was feeling it ... maybe another sweep was in the works?

Bird is the Word at Ball Don't Lie All-Stars

Bird is the Word 120, Ball Don't Lie All-Stars 118
    Full Play-by-Play

This game had everything you could want. Two superstars going back and forth. Great shooting. The joy of a game-winning shot in the final 20 seconds. The agony of a missed shot that would have sent it to overtime.

Wilt Chamberlain had 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks. Trading him punch-for-punch, Larry Bird had 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 9 assists.

Ball Don't Lie shot 55% from the floor, and hit all four of their triples. Bird is the Word countered with 45% shooting, 7/13 from downtown, and a nearly perfect 17/18 from the stripe.

Then, with 18 seconds left, Patrick Ewing (24 points, 11 rebounds) hit a shot to break the tie and put his team up two.

14 seconds later, Wilt Chamberlain missed a shot that would have sent us to overtime.

And that was the difference. And that was the ballgame.

Suddenly, Bird is the Word had confidence to try to salvage a series split.

Ball Don't Lie All-Stars at Bird is the Word

Ball Don't Lie All-Stars 109, Bird is the Word 106
    Full Play-by-Play

And this time, the script was reversed.

Ball Don't Lie was all clutch at the end of the game. Bob McAddo threaded a perfect pass to Wilt Chamberlain to put his team up one with 21 seconds left.

McAdoo came up large again, intercepting a pass with 7 seconds left.

Chamberlain was cool as ice at the free throw line, hitting both to increase the lead to three.

Joe Dumars hit the front of the iron on a shot that would have given us overtime.

And that was the difference. And that was the the ballgame.

Chamberlain had 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Ray Allen scored 21 points in just 27 minutes, thanks to red-hot (5/6) shooting from downtown.

Larry Birdy's 25 points, Elvin Hayes' 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Gary Payton's 18 points, 11 assist and 7 rebounds were close to enough, but not quite enough, to get that series split.

The Ayatollahs of Rock 'n' Rolla (JM1511) vs. the blue shells (tom)

Hello again simulated sports fans/dorks. We're here to wrap up the first set of conference play with what should be an absolute barn burner. the blue shells, among lofty expectations, got roasted in their opener. Is that a sign of things to come? Or just a bump in the road as they got started? They'll look to get back on the right track here. The Ayatollahs got a split in their opener, but with a point differential of only six over the two games, they'll be feeling like they could have gotten more. Will this be a step towards establishing themselves as an elite team? These four games will tell the story. Plus, it gives us Wilkins vs. Wilkens.

the blue shells at The Ayatollahs of Rock 'n' Rolla (JM1511)

The Ayatollahs of Rock 'n' Rolla 126, the blue shells 102
    Full Play-by-Play

Whatever was said at halftime, it certainly worked well for the Ayatollahs. It most certainly did not work for the blue shells, who got shell shocked and shell-acked in the third quarter.

After a back-and-first first half, the two teams entered halftime separated by just a single point. After three quarters? The Ayatollahs had an 18-point lead, and the game was academic. An 11-0 run near the end of the quarter removed pretty much all doubt ... except the doubt that was now creeping into the minds of the blue shells.

30 points and 9 rebounds from Kobe Bryant lead the way for the Ayatollahs, as they shot 54.7 from the floor, 46.7% from downtown, and missed only one of their 16 free throws. Moses Malone added 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Elton Brand had 11/8 in just 18 minutes.

Dennis Rodman, with 15 points and 10 rebounds, was the standout player for the blue shells.

The Ayatollahs of Rock 'n' Rolla at the blue shells

the blue shells 119, The Ayatollahs of Rock 'n' Rolla 116
    Full Play-by-Play

A cross-country flight back home helped the blue shells get their first win of the season.

As did a "I am not losing this game" effort from Kevin Durant.

Durant scored 34 points on 50% shooting, dished out 7 assists, grabbed four rebounds, and got to the line ten times. He also had five points and a key rebound in the final 13 seconds of the game, including a buzzer-beating three pointer to win the game.

Even with the win, the blue shells can't be all that happy. The Ayatollahs still shot 50%, and were within a Kobe Bryant jumper that was just off of losing the game in the final seconds.

Still, the first win is always important to get. And Durant got some help to get them there. 21/7/6 from Oscar Robertson and 19/20 from Artis Gilmore.

23/9 from Moses Malone lead the Ayatollahs.

Maybe this "winning" thing will prove contagious for the blue shells?

They left no doubt in this game.

After falling behind early, they lead by 5 after the first quarter, 12 at the half, 18 heading into the fourth, and took the game with a convincing 24 point win. They shot 53.8% from the field and absolutely dominated the paint - grabbing a rebounding edge of 55-33, including 20-9 on the offensive glass.

Artis Gilmore was the king of the night with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Kevin Durant shined again with 24 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds, while Oscar Robertson added 25 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds.

16 points from Kobe Bryant lead a forgettable effort for the Ayatollahs.

    Full Play-by-Play

Mentally or physically, the blue shells were tired from this cross-country flight. And it shows. And it cost them the game.

the blue shells came out flat, falling behind by ten less than 5 minutes into the game. That deficit was up to 14 as the first quarter came to a close with the Ayatollahs hitting any shot they wanted.

the blue shells rallied to come back the rest of the game, and it looked like they might pull it off. Oscar Robertson tied the game with 4:20 remaining, sparking some intense back-and-forth basketball.

With just over a minute, Robertson knocked down a jumper to tie the game at 116, and got fouled. The And-one would give the blue shells the elusive lead they'd been chasing all game.

    Robertson missed the free throw.

After a Yao Ming miss, a Zach Randolph miss, and a Kobe Bryant Miss wrapped around two offensive rebounds, Oscar Robertson found himself with a chance at redemption. His three-point attempt - if good - would give the blue shells a momentum-swinging, opponent-deflating lead with just seconds to go.

His three pointer missed, and the game remained tied.

Seconds later, Jason Kidd did not miss, and the Ayatollahs escaped with a series split.

Gilmore (25 points, 12 Rebounds), Robertson (27 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds), and Durant (26 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds) were again a three-headed monster, with Reggie Miller playing an amazing fourth (20 points in 20 minutes, 7/9 from the field, 3/3 from downtown). But, they were outdone by 26 points from Kobe Bryant and five other Ayatollahs scoring in double figures.
