Is it wrong of me to hope you get sent home early from work? Just kidding, appreciate anything cool from the encyclopaedia. Still curious if Soa gets more of a backstory in the book and whether the recent Patch 1.4 gets added for Gree goodness.
Killiks, Herald, Gree, Rakghouls... ... Dread Masters, those freaky grey things from Belsavis... ... Tython... ... Kreia? Throw it all at meeeeee!
Ah yes, the Esh-kha Speaking of which, wouldn't mind something on the World Razer also. Really, there are tonnes of material that needs expanding on. The Star Cabal, Flesh Raiders, more on the Voss. You meet those Harrower Sithspawn assassins but no big explanation on them. I don't think the Drall or Selonians get as much love... Selonians more so then the Drall. Nekghouls also... just so much stuff...
Am at home... starting my read/browse and will post spoilers soon then But one thing first.. it is more a visual guide than an encyclopedia and I am not sure how much it covers the expansions at all yet. from first glance it looks more visual with lots of text for sure, don't get me wrong there, but not alphabetical encyclopedia style but rather thematically sorted double pages with lots of text and images. but given it being thicker than the Readers Companion and featuring a lot... fans will love it! I see ranks lists, hierarchies of organisations and government branches, ships, well... lets say for every junkie there is some spice.
HELL YES is all I can say to that I mean, like in visual guides we got images with detail analysis of individual armor parts and more. there definitel is new stuff. lots of it. same for ships and craft
in the timeline it mentions 5000BBY Great Hyperspace War 4999 BBY The Sith Emperor Ascends: The Sith Emperor takes command following GHW. so it lastet less than a year? what the...? wasn't it retconned to last 10 years by JJM stuff if I am not mistaken?
Yeah, and I could have sworn the Essential Atlas also supported the 10-year length. Though part of that is probably the Republic following the Daragon Trail and sterilizing Sith Space.
lots of beautiful high res art, some from game concept art, timeline videos, game screenshots, trailers etc. Now on to some lore: Coruscanti Sleeper ship "Lokani Dawn" has a nice and sad tale. The slightly expanded intel on early Republic era is great so far with how the Core Worlds linked together slowly first by generation and sleeper ships and then by hyperspace cannons. Duro Hyperspace Scout Gun Basso has a fiery end in Datar systems sun after he had discovered Ord Mantell.
well the JJM short stories, Lost Tribe, was what I meant. but Atlas too. so what to do about it? one wrong date.. or not? got the impression of the war being 10 years long, not the entire operation including sweeps through Sith space.
more lore: Interesting intel on endgame stuff and beyond.. Rift Alliance for one, new Chancellor, etc. definitely LOTS of lore I can't all spoil here there folks. but I'll try. Also TOR EU featured like Theron Shan and his comic exploits etc. oooh.. quote "feisty Republic Senator Bevera Dodonna" and her initative to hire underworld privateers to fight for the Republic and here comes a FLEETJUNKIE quote from Republic Military History section: "Traditionally the Republic's Navy was by far its most valued military asset. Fleet Commanders and crews were well aware of this fact using their power to demand higher wages from the Senate and unconditional cooperation from infantry forces relying on them for transportation. Groundforces wern't just devalued by the navy - their pay was lower across the board and equipment standards varied widely from one planets forces to the next. At times infantry forces were treated as little more than vestigial throwbacks to less civilised styles of warfare."
@CeiranHarmony Any tidbits about the lengths and armaments of the Valor-class and Thranta-class? Also- any tidbits about Mon Calamari? There are relatively new to the galactic scence at this point, so I was suprised to see that one became Chancellor and others became high ranking military officers. --Adm. Nick
Quote: After entire paragraphs on the subject of honorific "Sir" used in military no matter the gender or species or if a gender exists at all and its pro and contra.. this quote pops up: "Officers are always adressed with respect.. except when enemy sniper activity is expected." lol
hmm... should I say you will like them or should I quote them? maybe both: Rep. Navy Ranks: Admiral Commodore Group Captain Captain Lieutenant Ensign Petty Officer Corporal Specialist Private Rep. Army Ranks: General Colonel Major Captain Lieutenant Ensign Sergeant Corporal Specialist Private
patience, not there yet but I hope there is. but we get ship stats indeed! and you will be happy... next few pages feature Thranta and more getting to that in few minutes
Honorific rank of Commander: not in regular rank table but earnable by special leadership skills, as well as one of the highest honors. refers to anyone in command of something or especially as honorific title for those with exceptional leadership skills. The War Trust: The 4 Generals report directly to the Chancellor and desig the war strategies CARRICK STATION oversees 70% of Republic Fleet Operations. Formerly known as outpost-22. An Imperial offensive forced supply lines to shift and suddendly prompted this unimportant station to become the new main hub with lots of upgrades. Named after Zayne Carrick who "underwent a similiar twist of fate during the Mandalorian Wars". Here it comes, here it comes, Nick! THRANTA-CLASS: Crew: 300 Troop Capacity: 200 Starfighter capacity: 14 Additional Craft: 3 Mombers, 4 Shuttles Standard Armament (might differ due to being highly modular starship!): -twin-mounted turbolaser cannons -laser turrets -Ion cannon -concussion missile launchers less firepower than Imp counterparts but higher operational range and speed, ideal for scouting and hit and run missions VALOR-Class Crew: 1900 Troops: 5000 Starfighters: 110 Additional Craft: 40 Bombers 25 Shuttles Standard Armament: -Turbolaser cannons -quadlaser turrets -ion cannons -proton torpedo tubes -concussion missile launchers as for total numbers of those I guess... count ingame during space missions
VALOR CLASS quote: "Due to their relative rarity and strategic importance, Valor-class cruisers are manned almost exclusively by veteran crews with many years of combat experience. Many joke that being assigned to one of these ships is a sure sign of advancing age."
Rats, no sizes given. Oh well, this is a lot of neat info, regardless. Cheers! Looking at the crew complement for the Valor-class, I realize the Dreadnaught-class must have been a scam to create jobs in a struggling galactic economy. 16,000 for a ship the fraction of its size? Please.
Nice lore on Republic Dagger Wing, Sith Lord Ondorru and them ending up imprisioned on Belsavis for slaughtering civilians thx to false intel the Sith Lord gave them. impressive, they list how much Republic Soldier gear weighs! 18-40kg = 40-88lb (both from the book!) soldiers carry rations for 4 days. service period: 5 years per enlistment organisational units/ number of troops Task Force 40000+ Division 20000-40000 Regiment 4000-6000 Batallion 750-1500 Company 150-250 Platoon 50-100 Squad 6-10 Fire Team 2 since I am still stuck at page 41... I skip ahead now. can't type up the entire book
Related note - now that it's FTP and has an expansion or two (or three? I honestly don't know), is it worth it to actually start playing TOR now? I just want to know the story, I could care less about the MMO experience.
