while i appreciate a good meme or fun thread im not certain about the attention lavished on this stormtrooper....even so having 2 seperate villians screaming traitor at finn just seems wrong. am i to understand that tr8tor just happens, out of thousands of troopers, to be at Maz's place or somehow knows Finn to scream traitor rather than stick to fighting protocol. Kylo stared at him on Jakku after Poes arrest so maybe he could sense that before the duel. i understand the writers want you to understand that the first order is upset/shocked/angry/mad that one little trooper is a traitor. On the one hand it seems too much attention on the concept while on the other hand amusing.

does anyone else kinda think that? im totally not trying to be a debbie downer here.

Phasma was supposed to be the badass and unless she does something in the next film, this guy took the badass bad guy award for the trilogy... sneaked in there and stole with a couple of minutes of awesome badassness

 

It was just to emphasise that it's a very uncommon occurance. They wanted to make a big deal of the fact that finn defected. Gotta remember, for some people this is their first star wars viewing experience so they wanted to drive home the core aspect of finns origin. It also adds another layer to the FO being the bad guys. We're following finn n hes a good guy so the FO must be bad etc.

 

TR-8R is otherwise known as FN-2199, he trained with Finn in the First Order, he's part of the same battalion as Finn, he knows him well enough to be mightily pissed at his traitorous ways!

While I'm not sure if Abrams and Kasdaan intended, it can be read that A) the First Order is so evil that they know a guy went rogue and it goes throughout the troopers really quickly so even some random would know so that makes Finn's defection even more important B) they did know each other beforehand. However, theorizing is rendered moot since "Before the Awakening" clearly establishes that "Nines" knew FN-2187.

But mainly the function of TR-8R hollerin' "TRAITOR!" does a good job of setting up Kylo's "TRAITOR!!!" bellow in the climax.

Anyway, authorial intent aside (and Greg Rukka / Story Group intentions ontop of the authorial intent), more funny pictures!

 

He's the most badass stormtrooper. Most of them in the movies are stupid and can't aim or do anything. He speaks his mind and was close to killing Finn. I wish he'd kill Finn lol jk. I hope we see Phasma use his weapon in the future if he's dead. It would be dope.
