Watching the right wing media call this Obama's katrina is laughable. And they are gonna repeat over and over and over that he lied about keeping your policy.

    1. I could have sworn in all the info I intake it was not just a flat statement that you keep what you want given that they are going to reduce your bill and increase your service. I think Obama was quote mined on this.

    2. let's assume he did lie. Let's say he lied right through his teeth. According to Faux/Limabugh/Beck he lied because he is trying to kill everyone and everything and those he does not kill will live in an atheist, socialist, communist, Hitler, dystopia. Bush and Cheney lied in reality right through their teeth and took this country into a war, broke the economy, and somehow that's ok. If Obama lied what did he lie about? Tricking the bad guys so that millions of people can get affordable healthcare insurance.

    That bastard!

Obama didn't lie. He caved in to his opponents and various special interests. That's why Obamacare was not what he said it would be in his campaign speeches. Not because he had never intended for it to be.

As far as the launch difficulties, it seems that the federal government is behind the times in how much they value competent programmers and web designers. They need to pay as much as private industry does.

No matter whose fault was what, or who said what- they better make damn sure that some people start signing up. I tend to resent these kneejerk reactions too, as we are only a month and a half into the program, but its a steep uphill effort they face to make sure they meet the threshold of applicants needed to finance this program.

It'll be lights out for the midterms (minimum) if they cannot.

A solid, though not ironclad, general principle: If Sarah Palin criticizes you, you're probably doing a good job.

I read Going Rogue. The Reagan worship is both laughable and sickening. Based on that, I'd be insulted if I ever got praise from her.

I await the day that we as a country stop giving her attention. She's the right's answer for Al Sharpton, a walking parody who contributes zero.

I think Al Sharpton gets a far worse rap than he deserves, in part because he's often lumped in with the much more vile Jesse Jackson .

I don't think that's at all fair to Al Sharpton. While the man certainly started out that way, he has subsequently used his celebrity to highlight some important issues. For instance, he was an early driver of outside media coverage in both the "Jena 6" and Trayvon Martin cases. Those were important contributions to the national dialogue, and his tone was pretty restrained and responsible.* Sarah Palin, by contrast, has own used her fame to make the national political environment more toxic than it was than when she first arrived. Even among conservatives, she is admitted to have a pretty superficial grasp of issues, with little genuine or long term engagement on anything.

*While he clearly had an opinion about how each case should come out, he called for due process before the fact and for respecting the results afterwards, without indulging conspiracy theories.

I respect Jackson for his international negotiation work. He's done a lot of good for a lot of families who had loved ones in very tight spots.

Sharpton, Palin, and the entire ilk of opportunists, I could do without.

The problem with that analogy is that if the Democratic nominee for President tried to foist Al Sharpton on us as a candidate for Vice President, and thus, a potential President of the United States, the Democratic establishment and base wouldn't seriously ask the public to take him seriously as an intellectually formidable figure.

Apropos Sharpton in general, I'm admittedly not too familiar with his entire career, but to me he strikes me as sort of a cartoon, more or less completely insignificant figure whom the Right has turned into a boogeyman as sort of the figurehead of what they think the entire population of "black people" are concerned with in the year 2013, whereas he really seems to be the grandpa who talks endlessly while you hold the phone away from your ear.

I wouldn't disagree with you on that one.

That's an interesting point. Normally, I would say that he's responsible for his own image- I mean, he took the job as the host of an opinion show on a known partisan network, much in the way a Sean Hannity did. However, he does tend to catch a lot of flak from right-wing news sources, moreso than many other black leaders, outside of the President. I have made my own distaste for his style known, but I think you raise a valid argument.

heels1785: What do you dislike so strongly about Al Sharpton? The main thing that could jump to mind is the Tawana Brawley, but I'm not aware of any evidence he knew the girl was lying. What upsets you?

Nothing upsets me about any public figure, really. I don't know enough about the Brawley case, honestly.

My distaste for both Palin, Sharpton, and plenty of others stems from their persona as someone who is comfortable jumping to the podium to scream in front of rallies, or throwing barbs on TV, but ultimately comes across as totally self-serving and phony.

Perhaps it is unfair. Many parents of special needs children, or Alaskans who supported her for governor may say the same of my portrayal of Palin, perhaps she helped their family or community in some way. I don't assume my opinion is everyone's, or even necessarily justified- its just grounded in what I see and/or read.

She had a 92 percent approval rating as Governor of Alaska before she decided to run for VP. She should have stayed out of the national spotlight.

One of my grad school professors was her librarian in high school, and discussed her behavior in school and on the basketball court.

I don't hold it against anyone for misbehaving in school, I was no angel myself, I just thought it was funny.

    Doesn't seem like a very pro-abstinence T-shirt.
