Tennessee bill would force teachers to inform parents if their child is gay (as well as ban any mention of homosexuality in schools) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/30/tennessee-dont-say-gay-bill_n_2582390.html
1. How the hell are teachers are going to inform parents that their child is gay if they can't discuss homosexuality in school? Wait until they drive off campus and call from their cell phones? 2. I'm reminded of opposition to some anti-bullying legislation in North Carolina, opposition which essentially said that the bill gave gay people special protections. IOW, "my religion says I'm supposed to pick on gay people, dammit."
Bills on smoking and 'shacking up' clear Va State Senate. Edit: Scott Brown chooses not to run for Kerry's Senate seat.
"I hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama. You don't represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We're going to take this country back for the Lord. We're going to try to take this country back for conservatism. And we're not going to allow minorities to run roughshod over what you people believe in!" -- Arkansas state Sen. Jason Rapert (R), at a Tea Party rally in Arkansashttp://politicalwire.com/archives/2013/02/01/quote_of_the_day.html
In the country I grew up in, health care and Social Security were not constantly under attack by corrupt Ayn Rand-worshipping plutocrats and their despicable racist followers. I don't know what country these idiots grew up in.
This is a pretty offensive interpretation of the bill by the Huffington Post. Rather than worrying about all students having confidential access to healthcare and counseling, they choose to focus only one sexuality issue. Don't get me wrong, I definitely oppose legislation that would force school employees to inform parents of their child's sexual orientation, but this legislation could also mandate them informing parent of a whole host of other things. What would the result of this bill be? Students would stop coming to the counselors and nurse for the reasons they go to them instead of their parents, so these kids wouldn't get needed healthcare or counseling. This bill is a danger not only to homosexual persons, but to all students in the school.
That assumes that the parents are better-equipped to handle these issues than counselors or nurses. That's often not the case.
I agree with you. Maybe I worded it awkwardly. I believe that the students need to be granted confidentiality by the counselors and staff healthcare providers because there are times when the students do not want their parents to know, and may even have good reasons to know. Forcing the staff to break confidentiality would prevent students from coming to the staff for help. I do not want that.
So I came across this amusing commentary piece on Foreign Policy, by self-proclaimed "realist in an ideological age" Stephen Walt. What if foreign policy officials suddenly told the truth? Worth the read. If you ask me, it's funny 'cause it's true. But you might be of a different opinion.
Tagg Romney might run for Senate in Massachusetts this year (since Scott Brown won't), and Ann Romney is being asked to run if her son doesn't. I wonder if they'll release their tax returns? http://news.msn.com/politics/report-tagg-romney-weighing-mass-senate-run Ex-FEMA director Michael Brown (Hurricane Katrina), who complained about Obama responding "too quickly" to Hurricane Sandy, is now mocking the Superdome blackout: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/looko...tter-super-bowl-fighting-brown-183515793.html The more things change, the more they stay the same...
You beat me to the Tagg "I wanna punch the President" Romney news. And seriously, who the **** cares about Michael Brown anymore. He should just shut up and go away already.
It appears the gerrymandering of the next Presidential election in 2016 has hit a wall. And only Pennsylvania is still trying to push through the rigging of the system.
You must really enjoy that hollow sound made by the empty head hitting the wall. Exactly. These morons would run off Ronald Reagan as a "libtard". Even he knew not to touch Medicare.
So pathetic. After trying to rig the 2012 election those people should be in jail. If you're going to change the electoral system it should be all the states, not just a major blue state while large red states get left alone.
Maybe if we clap our hands really fast and chant "I don't believe in the Tea Party. I don't. I don't" they'll all shrivel up and die.
