Two weeks ago, Rand Paul criticized Hillary Clinton for wanting us to have been more active in Syria years ago, before the IS rose.

A week ago, he said we must militarily destroy the IS.

And he's said: "All options are on the table [regarding Iran]."

    Now?
"I look at the world, and consider war."

I'm having flashbacks to Romney's "I'm severely conservative."

    Ugly Numbers in WaPo-ABCN poll.

President, Democrats, Republicans - everyone gets hit hard in this one. Only good news is that 56% of the people realize that the economy is turning around. Support for striking ISIS is high.

I think that poll really is indicative of why US politics is so screwy. There's no central "message" to take away from that data other than the fact that the electorate is disenchanted with their political leaders. Depending on your political bent, you can take all kinds of good news strories out of there, if you really want to, but you're not going to get direction to change what you're doing.

    Good speech tonight. Strong speech.

McCain and Jay Carney are sparring something fierce on CNN.

Obama's speeches are rarely disappointing (sans his apparent enjoyment for glaring pauses), but continual airstrikes really isn't surprising, imo.

    EDIT:

Oh, I guess I somehow missed that we're going to conduct airstrikes in Syria now in addition to Iraq.

So, Bernie Sanders runs, Hillary Clinton runs. Who do you vote for?

He's a non-threatening choice. Much like when Hillary ran for re-election in NY for the Senate post-Iraq, they tossed up the most dovish candidate they could find. Sanders is the test balloon for this and I'm expecting him to poll far, FAR less than Hillary would and there's almost zero chance I can see him running as an Independent.

Sanders supports the strikes on the IS.

But anyways, hypothetical... Sarah Palin has been President since March 2009. How are the country and the world different?

As far as I know John McCain is still kickin', so why would he have died less than two months after taking office?

I simply refuse to believe that if McCain had won that the braintrust wouldn't have made it a top priority to ease her out of the office as soon as possible. As Jack Traven said in Speed, the neoconservative establishment is "crazy. Not stupid".

Yeah, I'm mapping a quote from a Keanu Reeves movie on to real life with a straight face, but it's less ludicrous than the alternative possibility where the Presidency becomes a hit sitcom about a folksy anti-intellectual ignoramus who one morning finds herself handed the keys to the football.

Odd development. Colorado incumbent Governor John Hickenlooper (D), who has been fairly popular (and notably did good work in the aftermath of multiple tragedies, namely Aurora), is now down 10 points in the latest Quinnipiac poll and showing 51% unfavorability. The other high-profile race in that state has been close from the start, as Sen. Mark Udall (also D) fights for a second term in office. Udall served Colorado in the House for 10 years prior to his move to the Senate in 2008.

Colorado certainly has large pockets of Republican support outside of the cities, but along with Nevada and New Mexico, it seemed to be trending Democratic. Interesting that these races are so close.

Hickenlooper hasn't been that popular since he attempted gun control.
